This is a perfect opportunity for a third party company to make metal counterweights for the crane, as well as a light kit and even a boom extension kit that includes lengthened strings.

@MrKlawUK

wonder if they could have considered putting the battery boxes/hubs at the back and enclosing them with disguise pieces to look like a counterweight block - also save money on those blocks. Boom extension may still stress the motor even with more counterweight stopping it tipping. Would be curious to see some Mocs - should be straightforwards to experiment with although maybe expensive if you brick link those trusses...

It has some clever design solutions, no doubt about it, but there is some discussion about whether this really looks like a Liebherr. The wider tracks would have fitted the scale better, and the boom/jib combination chosen for this set apparently doesn't actually exist in real life. Might have been better to just release this as "fantasy" crane, drop the licence fees, and have a more reasonable value for money ratio. Regarding the issues with this set, someone suggested, looking at the set number, this was intended for 2022 release, but got delayed due to issues. And in the end, got released 95% finished basically. That could explain some of its problems, and maybe they had to increase the price because of the extra time that went into its development, due to the problems.

@lirikdauti6163
@lirikdauti6163 Жыл бұрын
It isnt worth it. Half of the pieces are only pins and other little things worth about 30$. It doesnt look like any Liebheer crane. The battery boxes are just open with no covers. No gearbox, just for every function one motor which is dumb. The only reason why this could be a liebheer is because of the many stickers, nothing else. The counterweights are very light wich limits the weight the crane can carry. Sll of these yellow boxes arent only consist of 4psc per box, so you dont even do something else than using pins. And lastly it doesnt even have a remote control. You have to use a phone app. For 700$ this is ridiculously expensive.

Lego now has the yellow frame pieces that make up the booms available to purchase. I bought 8 of each of the 2 frame pieces to make 4 units. I extended the main boom with 3 of them and the jib with the 4th one. I used parts from my other sets to extend the braces. The 7905 Building Crane has 12 of the Axle 16 w/ eyes I needed. I had to use longer string for the jib and the hook.

Too expensive, crawler base needs to be wider, carrier rollers need to be closer to drive sprockets to aid stability, those white balls need to go, needs Derrick ballast, needs atleast another section in its main boom, hook needs about 20 more pulleys, track pads need to be smooth, it’s just so far from the real crane when the 9800 and D11 were very close,

Could you take a Dremel and hollow out some of the counterweights and put in chunks of lead or lead fishing sinkers to increase the weight of them? I might try that when I finish the build and play with it a bit. Perhaps some water soluble white glue could mitigate the problem with the counterweights falling off and coming apart, and can be removed, should one have a change of heart.

the pricepoint and authenticity is a total dealbreaker for me, lego technic flagships are supposed to be challenging but fun, like for example lego 42100 or 42114, which were both jam packed with functions, i fail to see any difference with this and 42042 which is actually more advanced due to it's gearbox, then you have 42100 (also under Liehberr branding mind you) which had twice the amount of pieces and a more diverse and bigger motor selection (at 7 motors as opposed to 6) for only a little over half the price as 42146, I can't conceivably say this a good deal by any metrics but thanks for your input on this set

To me, the value of a big set depends on the number of alts that will be available over time. And I think there will not even be half alts for this compared to the R9800. Too little variation in the parts, cranes are the only builds. So no, not valuable at all.

I disagree with whose who say this doesn’t look good but although I’m really impressed by the technical solutions I can’t find aaaaaany reason for this to cost 700€. It’s crazy. Someone (Sariel) said that at least without the Liebherr licence (which it’s useless as it doesn’t represent any of the possible configurations of the real crane) it could have been cost a little less, but it would have still been overpriced. It’s really a miss for me, and I own almost every Technic set ever made 😢

I disagree with your assertion that putting an actual weight in the app instead of a relative load "is actually a very easy program to make". Putting a hook weight on it would depend on it knowing the current angles of the boom and the jib, as well as the amount of counterweights. counterweights would be easy because you could tell the app how many are on, but the app would need some kind of sensor to determine the angles of boom and jib.

yeah no, the pulley system is impressive but its not faithful to any version of the Liebherr 13000. the boom is different/out of scale to any variation. and the counterweight is wrong. on top of the fact that it just isnt detailed enough to be worth 700 dollars. the titanic model is a little over 700 dollars, its very detailed, but has no functions. the CAT D11 set costs less, is more faithful, and is more detailed.

I am also interested in the new elements, I just might pick up one of them for that reason for MOCing purposes. However, I will be very patient with this purchase. The price is bound to drop a lot. As a set though, I have the same opinion as before, it does not look like an exciting build to me. Look, it is big, and tower cranes are fascinating. But I don't have to build this set to know that. The build itself does not look intricate or particularly pleasing. Very good review though.

The price-justification of KZbinrs like you from the Lego ambassador network, who get the set for free, is awkward. This set is way way too expensive, period.

I dont think the counter weights have metal in them, because you'd have no issue lifting thing if they had metal in them. I think they're just all plastic with no space on the inside

Beautiful build and more than worth the $700 price. Just because you can't afford it doesn't make it a bad set.

Does the real crane move while lifting weights ? I don't think cranes like that usually don't.

Engineering wise it’s very well done. However the short boom length and lack of correct ballast (as per the real Liebherr crane) are disappointing. The cost here AUD $1,049.00. There is one (1) on shelf at the local Lego store, where I was yesterday to put my name down for the upcoming Concorde 👍 which is at $299 AU value for money. Cheers.

Considering I could buy an rc one for cheaper and make modifications to it later for little to nothing, 700 is a bit much for a lot of people especially when it comes down to determining its functional value over other important expenses.

I ordered mine on July 3rd. I am planning to buy more parts to extend the boom. The Mould King crane uses 1 by plates and beams to construct the booms. It has 4318 pieces. I would race you to modify our cranes, but I don't have mine yet. No pressure though.... no pressure. LOL

Ballast plastic pieces seems to be really cheap and can't justify the extreme speculative price! Very bad Lego!
@Unbrickme
@Unbrickme Жыл бұрын
Yeah they’re way too light. If those white balls exist the ballast should be as heavy as possible
Жыл бұрын
@@Unbrickme They could use integral metallic material, like aluminum, that is not so expensive, and it would be heavy.
