Why the Long stone, Mottistone Common and The Mottistone Manor on the Isle of Wight?

Exploring the intriguing traces of the past at The Long stone and Mottistone Common which include the historic long stone, Bronze Age burial moulds and an Iron Age enclosure. A stroll around the Mottistone manor and the stunning gardens was icing on the cake.

I am a descendant of the Cheeks of Mottistone! If you ever visit Chyknell in Claverly Shropshire,that is where the Cheek name derived. Robert De Chekenhull took on the name of that estate. His grandson Hugh De Chekenhull became Sherrif of Whippingham,and his descendants married into the Mottistone family. About 1300. By that time they shortened the name to Cheke or Cheeke. Sir Peter Cheke did not inherit the estate,being he was not the oldest male. But his son Sir John Cheke became very influential at Oxford and became tutor under Henry VIII to the future King Edward and sometimes Mary and Elizabeth. He was my 13th grandfather. His great grandson came to Virginia and I am his descendant. This was a beautiful video!
