Why the M4 iMac is the Ideal Family Computer

I literally just got mine yesterday. I haven’t had one since 2007 and am loving it! I had a convoluted set up before and the mess of cables annoyed me. The only minor downside is that I’m sure the speakers are good given the limitations in the space they have but it’s not amazing. My MacBook Pro 16 inch blows the iMac away but I’m always using AirPods anyway. Am very pleased with my purchase and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who’s interested. Oh and I purchased a blue one! 😊

Blue ones looks amazing, and congrats! I should have mentioned the speaker, but we use ours with headphones almost 100% of the time.

Good review. I like the convenience of the iMac, but I prefer the 27", and the stand is too short. I'd like a form factor where the monitor stands about 6" higher.

My son uses Sibelius and Logic on a base 16 GB RAM /512GB SSD M1 MacBook Pro without any performance issues while pushing these programs hard with tons of tracks. He uses a MIDI keyboard in his setup. The base M4 iMac should scream through applications like these two though pros in these areas such as those who compose entire symphonies would certainly demand a more capable machine based on my knowledge.

Depends how advanced the video editing it, but if you're dealing with 3-4 layers of 4K footage and not doing a ton of effects / filters, it would be great!

I didn't work like that personally, but you can certainly use a Studio display as a second monitor to the M4 iMac!

Hey Stephen! I think your reviews are great! I would really appreciate your opinion in this matter. I have an Iphone 13 Pro and I dont have any sort of Apple Watch. Im trying to decide between buying an Iphone 16 Pro Max or an Apple Watch Ultra 2 Black. Which one do you think is a better option?

Well it depends how much longer you'd wait to upgrade the *other* device. Honestly the 13 to 16 Pro will be a huge upgrade, 5x camera, Dynamic Island, Action Button, faster, 4K 120 FPS, etc. If it was me, I'd upgrade the phone and look for a refurbished Apple Watch Series 8 or 9

Runs well! We haven't done massive projects with dozens of tracks, but for light to medium-light work it's great

The iMac is a great family computer. Don't have that use-case at the moment. Looking forward to the ridiculous M4-Ultra Mac Studio.

True, but also true if you replace M4 with ANY apple silicon chip. Just like the Mini is the best headless machine you can use and the air is the best light laptop and well best laptop period for like 80% of the population. Apple silicon screams. there's no need for this video, we know what imacs do well and why they are good.

I do think the M4 is a significant upgrade over the M1 for those who don't own Apple Silicon to consider it. And most of us Apple users know this, for sure, but for those looking at the iMac they're likely unfamiliar!

We use a m1 MacBook that we bought for 500€ and this is more than enough for all. You don’t need to spend that much money that’s a fact.
