Why The Multiversus Launch Failed

So this video is before the mid-season patch but I still think this video has important stuff in it. The launch was so rocky that even if this game is fixed right now, it's important that the launch is good because that's when the most eyes are on it. Who cares if the game is good 3 months from now if everyone has already forgotten about it. Really in this video, I go over a couple of gripes I have with how terribly the launch was handled. Even if Multiversus has Bugs Bunny, Jason Vorhees, and Batman... it'll still get beaten out by platform fighters with better gameplay and fewer bugs like Brawlhalla or Rivals of Aether. This game never had to be the next Super Smash Brothers but it would help if the game worked as intended...

@@supremeinfrrno3304 The combo routes and each character combo has is very predictable because a lot of the freedom from the beta version was removed. No short hops Slow fast fall Dodge/dash meter nerf Also Ranked by nature makes players more "cautious" and in this game cautious means passive, and with less ways to approach because of aforementioned changes ranked will get stale. (Especially if they don't fix the stages) It's better than nothing, but it will exacerbate the issues this game has as a competitive fighting game.

@@supremeinfrrno3304 Nope. Dude i was top 15 in the world at that game. The punish game was predicated on hard reads and attack/ character placement. Yes there were characters that could run away, but thats no different than the experience we are getting now. The the punish game in this version is way to jab combo heavy and the characters that have advantage is the ones the longer dodge distances. We have even worse stages and less ability to punish and hitboxes are still a complete mess not to mention the fact that attack priority is terrible in this game. The only thing better is the net code but we are missing Mmr leaderboard stats In-depth training mode Better perks Stages that don't kill their participants And this is supposed to be the finished product.

To go more in-dept with the bugs in this game, at least on the PS5 version:- The game crashes almost half the time and moves that look like they hit just don't among other issues. I know that this "release"-version was made from the ground up due to the switch to Unreal Engine 5, but if that's the case, they should've delayed it for a few months or so while play testing it. It feels like we're still playing a beta game.

This is what I find weird for the battlepass, if you buy a battlepass shouldn't you be able to own everything in the battlepass? Why would one need to grind in a time limited battlepass if it's theirs? Yes, people who played the beta get it for free but why is there an expiration date for the battlepass? After the first battlepass you will need to purchase the second one AND grind it out, but if you purchase the pass shouldn't all of contents be awarded to you, the player? If they take away the expiration date on battlepasses and events, maybe the average player experience wouldn't be so bad. I for one enjoy the game but I feel I can't fully enjoy the game unless I do an unhealthy amount of grinding without skipping a day or cough up $100+....which makes $60 fighting games look cheap. Also if your opponent quits halfway through a match you are awarded zero XP and that gets annoying when trying to grind. Thank you for making your video!

FOMO is the reason why. it gets people scared of missing out so they grind to get the stuff before they disappear never to be seen again. this BS is why i like how DRG handled it. you dont miss out on any of the cosmetics you can still get them. and the pass is free for everyone who bought the game. and now you can reactivate old seasons too.

@@Boomrainbownuke9608 I think part of the thought process is knowing you'll pay for it later, the content which was free, but the game doesn't seem like it wants the average person to earn rewards but rather buy Galemium. $100+ for just the first season of content, not even all of it, is a hefty price and I the next battlepass I thought would need to be purchased-- the first one currently is given to those who participated in the beta launch. The shop is expensive and ranking characters just for 300 fighter currency when fighters cost 3,000 is an abysmal metric.

It lost 50% of its player base in a month and is still on a downwards trend in player base. Its live service so if they lose enough players the game’s servers will shut down and its dead. There’s still a chance it gets saved but it’s showing the same trends it did during beta which had lead to it dying. Hopefully it doesn’t it’s a fun game, but how it’s going it looks like it will fail.

Bro you barely play the game and wonder why you don't have any perk currency or fighter currency. You had to say "outside of events" because the events actually give out a decent amount. I got 22k fighter currency since relaunch. 1.2k of that is from leveling up fighters, the rest is from events, dailies, and getting toasted. Owning every character in a fighting game is not something 90% of people care about. It isn't pokemon. I'm never gonna play half the characters, so buying them isn't a priority. Realistically, most people only tend to play at most like 5 characters regularly. Couple that with weekly character rotation and its really not that crazy at all. As for rifts, if a friend who's beaten them already brings you into theirs, you can pick any character on any level so you can complete ones that require certain skins.

Fair enough, I guess you are better at min maxing than me. I actually don’t have a problem with perk currency and character currency (as in I have a lot, and don’t need to worry about gaining more to buy things I need) because I got a lot from beta, but I was using some of the complaints of my friends. Either way if you enjoy the game, more power to you, but it just didn’t work for me…

@thewubgod so much wrong here. First of all, the only goalpost that was moved seems to be the expectations of free games. People seem to think if the game doesn't give you all the fighters for free AND with minimal effort, it's a garbage ripoff. Meanwhile it's one of the only games that even gives you a free character unlock option. If you pay $60 for ssbu, you can't play the game enough to unlock Joker or Steve for free. Ever. If you play fortnite, it's literally impossible to play as goku, naruto, Peter griffin or anyone else for free. It's all pay to play. Multiversus expects you to play the game and complete events to get free currency. God forbid the game rewards people who play it a lot with free stuff. And how exactly is rebuilding the entire game in a better engine so we can have rollback net code, then putting out 5 updates within a month and a half, constantly giving players what they ask for, "not putting in the work"? Fortnite is definitely the greedier cash grab between the two.
