I was under the impression he was descended from a famous swordsmith, since even Rin said his mana was weird; If I remember correctly, when Rin was talking about how she was able to wield numerous elements, Shirou's element seemed to be swords specifically, which is weird considering that it's not an element at all. That is not shirou, (well technically it is his body). It is the legendary sword smith Senji Muramasa who was summoned into shirou Emiya’s body due to their alike personalities.

Kanshou and bakuya is an impossible sword. I have went to many black smiths before and asked if the can do kanshou, but they all say the design is flawed as the handle is next to the blade , and the point which is between blade and handle is weak point to it snaps easily

Fun fact: due to a series of events all involving muramasa weapons, the shogun at the time, Tokugawa Ieyasu, became convinced that muramasa weapons had it out for his clan and decided to ban muramasa blades. But the thing is muramasa blades were so widespread in Japan that it was hard to actually ban all of them. What people ended up doing was taking apart the weapon and changing the signature on the tang so that it couldn't be recognized as a muramasa blade. It also lead to the rise of counterfeit muramasa weapons being sold in secrecy

It all started with his grandfather, Matsudaira kiyoyasu who was killed by an O-katana made by muramasa. Years later his father Matsudaira Hirotada was attacked by an assassin. When the assassin was killed and they checked the blade, which was a wakizashi, they found it was made by muramasa. Then one day seven year old Tokugawa Ieyasu (then known as Matsudaira Takechiyo) cut himself on his katana. It wasn't a deep cut but he reported that it was unnaturally painful. After cleaning off the blade he realized it was a muramasa. And the final incident which cemented the idea that the blades were after his family, happened while he and one of his retainers were inspecting a spear which had pierced completely through the helmet of Toda Shigemasa and still remained intact afterwards. While they were admiring the craftsmanship of it, Ieyasu dropped it and cut himself on it. He jokingly said "ha! Must be a muramasa". Upon closer inspection it was indeed a muramasa. His paranoia at an all time high, Tokugawa Ieyasu issued a ban on all muramasa weapons. But this wasn't the end of the tokugawa clan's encounter with muramasa blades. There was one more incident where the younger brother of Tokugawa Iemitsu killer himself with a muramasa tantō
