Ken states his case in favor of the long-overdue sale of the Baltimore Orioles to the local David Rubinstein Group, something that's on the cusp of thriving under new management, from the team as a franchise to Baltimore at large.

I'm happy for the O's fans that they're getting new ownership! Hopefully they get owners who want to compete, and are transparent.

@99bimmer Ripken's been involved in Orioles ownership for the past 20 years. BUT, it seems like he'll be more involved with the Orioles after Rubinstein's purchase of the O's.

Been an O's fan since the 70's. Angelos was a cheap useless owner. No one liked him. We were organ donors for the rest of the league.

I smiled at Ken's Baltimore Sun mention. Every year I pull down my holiday lights from the garage, which are wrapped in 1993 Sun sports sections, where Ken's columns are front and center. I sometimes will scan these columns and reminisce. I always enjoy reading his take on the early Angelos years. Turns out his skepticism was well founded. Many more Rosenthal stories from these editions featured Baltimores's quest to get an NFL team to move here. In retrospect. we won the lottery when the Browns moved and Steve Biscotti bought out Art Modell. I pray that Mr. Rubenstein becomes our next Steve Bisciotti.

I hope Baltimore is serious about a civic revival. Coming from Philadelphia I’ve enjoyed Baltimore as a good walking city like ours. The O’s are great fun to watch. 2023 was a blast.

As a life long Oriole fan outside of Baltimore I am very excited about the change of ownership. Having lived near the DC, MD, VA area I really enjoyed coming up to Baltimore to catch an Orioles game and head over to Fells Point and the Inner Harbor for crab cakes. Since I used to follow horse racing I liked it around Preakness time. I played at Pimlico too. I'm not saying it was all bright and rosy. Baltimore had some rough patches with poverty and crime too. In recent years I had to shake my head at riots, looting and arson. When people had to fight their way in and out of Camden Yards I couldn't believe it. That's a new reality in planning and making sure people feel safe coming in with their families.

Who gets the credit for the positive encouraging direction of the Orioles? For signing Mike Elias? For Hiring the team around Elias? For opening the Dominican Academy? For approving and taking on the contracts for Kimbrell and Burnes?

A 15 lease is no good. It was supposed to be a 30 year lease. This is no help. Bobby whit received a mega contract now Henderson's will have to be even larger so will rutchmans. If they don't sign those two now they never will. Kevin Brown is wash. Trash. They don't need that bum calling games. Bringing up wash while laughing at the Orioles. Even palmer at the beginning of the year basically questioned his loyalty to the Orioles, Brown is wash trash.thats the only thing angelose did well was suspend him. Brown tries to jinx the Orioles every chance he gets.

The fifteen year option was to allow the Orioles to opt out specifically if they didn't get the development rights figured out by then. That was a John Angelos thing. Throwing him a bone. But he'll be long gone in 15 years, thank god. So it is for all purposes a 30 year lease

Wow, I don’t understand your opinion on anything tbh. I’ve been an O’s fan for 30 yrs. I have never seen them win a WS, I have always seen this team do bad. I grew up with Angelos running the team and meddling into the baseball aspect to which he knew nothing. As long as the new owners just write the checks and allow Elias and co. to do everything they’d like to do, then we’ll have no issues and this team will win WS’s. 2nd, Kevin Brown is a FANTASTIC commentator and he did NOTHING wrong. He didn’t even talk shit about the O’s, he simply stated a FACT about the O’s of the past and how the O’s have done extremely well ever since. Kevin Brown is a FAN FAVORITE and a breath of fresh air. I love listening to him call games. For him being so young and not having the experience like some in the league do, he’s done a great job at it. 3rd, Witt’s contract extension should be the starting point for Gunnar, Gunnar’s agent, Scott Boras has a track record of making his guys test FA. With that being said, Gunnar has 5 yrs of control left. If the O’s are this great team as they’re expected to be, with all the talent they have, I don’t know why Gunnar WOULDN’T want to stay. Especially with new ownership, I’m sure they’re going to want to win over the fan base and let them know they’re in it to win it. Cal is apart of the ownership group, tho he’s a minority owner and more so a face for ownership, he will do all he can to make sure the O’s do what they need to do to lock up certain players. I’m sure Gunnar is def one of them. If ownership is going to spend the money, I don’t see why they wouldn’t lock up Gunnar. It’s just a matter of when and how much they’re willing to go. Tho the price def starts at what Witt’s is. So 300 is the starting point and I’d say 10 yrs. I wouldn’t be surprised if that got it done if they threw it down in front of him at some point soon. Kinda difficult to turn that down as a young kid with that much money and knowing you have stability and nothing to worry about again in your life or your family’s life. Adley will not cost the same as Gunnar bc he’s a catcher, catchers wear down a lot quicker and he’ll need to be able to take over 1B at some point. I could see him taking a deal around 230-260mil if not a little less. Prolly in the 7-8 yr range. Nonetheless, he won’t cost the same as Gunnar and that just goes without saying if you take a look around the lg at any catchers salary. The highest paid catcher still remains to be Buster Posey. Who Adley is often referred to as being similar too. Last but not least, like the comment above me, the 15 yr lease is more so for Angelos and having the rights for the grounds around the stadium to do with what he wants. The O’s aren’t going anywhere. Ever. The MLB knows this and so does any owner that owns the O’s. Baltimore is a baseball town and has been forever. The O’s are a staple in MLB and with that beautiful ballpark they have, even tho it’s 30 yrs old, is still in wonderful condition and has had plenty of stadiums around the lg replicate things out of OPACY. They’ll continue to make additions and fix things that need fixed at OPACY to maintain it being a top 5 stadium in the MLB. Your comment was terrible and clearly shows that either you HATE the O’s or don’t know much about the team or its fans. If you hate Angelos than you are just like everyone else but your other statements don’t fall in line with ANYONE I’ve talked to that’s a fan of MY TEAM. THE BALTIMORE Orioles. I love this team and I have and always will root for them. Can’t wait for the 24 season! LFG O’s!!!
