Why the Overwatch 2 PvE STILL Has Potential

The Overwatch 2 PvE has been out for a while now so let's talk about my thoughts on it including things about the gameplay, story, problems, and who this is really for.

I found it to be very... un-Swiss of her, given that in Switzerland they have a more reasonable attitude to gun ownership. Though I guess it meshes well with her pacifist outlook.

If they actually let players just buy the missions for $5 it would be worth it overall. Frankly I'm just glad the PvE is out so now it can only get better and grow from here. I enjoyed playing it and there's so much more they could do.

I really wish they would have let players buy the missions separately. Hopefully that's a change they'll make going forward for next time considering all the negative feedback on that part!

As someone whos currently reading through all the comics and short stories for the first time, i find it insane that they're not available in game, or at least linked to at the very least. They add so much life to the characters and world, and so much important context to the story playing out right now. Like I was literally wondering why Cassidy was with Pharah, Zarya, Dva and Bap but then i got to reading the new blood comics and i got so excited when i realized that's exactly what it was all about! I really hope they'll add the external media to the game, and that they'll continue to expand the lore of the game in media outside of the game itself. Also i sincerely hope they'll not forget about expanding the lore of OW1, there are still so many unanswered questions from the past!

Personally not in a rush to buy the story modes just yet. The bundles apparently aren't going anywhere, but as interested as I am in the gameplay, I just don't fancy being locked into playing with other players. I also wasn't expecting anything particularly spectacular from the PvE. The Overwatch team was missing a lead narrative designer for AGES (either that, or they just left the job opening on the careers page for 4 years while they had someone in that position, but I doubt it with how often the page cycled) and I'm already quite familiar with Blizzard's approach to Story based content. From the video, the gameplay looks like an Overwatch-Themed FPS style WoW dungeon, which is about what I expected after the entire "we need ultra replayability" thing was pushed by a lot of creators (side note: you're never actually going to get something that is able to push the story forwards significantly or offer a decent amount of lore information and also get the endless replayability people wanted. There is a reason that even the Overwatch team had plans for this to be separate - Hero Missions being the ultra replayable missions (now hero mastery) and the story missions being the story based dungeon we got )

I definitely agree that they should give you the option to play single player like I mentioned in the video. Sometimes you just... Don't want to play with other players and you should be allowed to play through the missions by yourself! The Overwatch 2 PvE stuff should have been marketed as Story Missions from the beginning. I don't think it NEEDS ultra replayability or anything since the idea is to progress the story of Overwatch and place you in it so you can experience it firsthand. If they leaned more into that side of things, I think it would have been more successful and it's a shame that the ultra replayability factor is being pushed so hard as the big critique of it all

@@Skiesti I'm actually still highly confused about just why people wanted such an ultra-replayable mode for the Story Missions though, as from the announcement of the Dedicated PvE Overhaul being cancelled onward, the Overwatch team was very clear about these missions being story focused and that the mode focused primarily on replayability was the Hero Mastery mode. But, then again, I've observed that what the Overwatch team says rarely, if ever, actually gets registered in the minds of the more vocal subset of the community, a subset who will listen to literally anything but the official patch notes and announcements on the games changes at times.

I think it’s pretty neat. And I don’t think it’s that expensive given that ow is a free game now. I mean, I’ve played years of ow, and it’s worth far more than any other game I’ve bought for the same price. (I loved Elden Ring and I think Elden ring is highly worth it for $60. But I can play Elden ring 400 hours max. But ow? Thousands of hours have gone by, and I foresee myself playing for the years to come.

Pretty enjoyable for the most part gameplay-wise and for it's interactions and cinematics but overall was just too short and could have been a lot more plus the dialogue was just mediocre not a lot of creative writing here just more of the same mundane end-of-the-world type stuff. I do really love Lucio now after reading his bio and his story, and I hope Ganymede makes it through alright dammit.

I just did all the missions yesterday. I agree seeing that scene and all those omnics was so sad :( I do agree they should sell the PVE separately! excited to see more missions released!

It's so hard to describe what I thought the first time I saw it. My heart just.... Dropped. There's also that omnic by the door when Claire first opens it that just... Falls forward onto the floor because it was leaning against the door and it's so heartbreaking

They are hoarding missions for sure. An orisa, moria, and doomfist cut scene was leak a year ago. I'm sure this will be the last time we get 3 missions at once again.

Watched the full playthroughs on youtube and I'm good; not spending $15 for it. Little to no replay value and over time your team will be bots because of a lack of people queuing up for it later on.

Seems i will have to find someone to play this mision with; everytime i try it, someone instalocks lucio or brig (or in the worst scenario, bap) and feeds. And when i pick mercy, i have 2 people arguing that lucio is "better". Yeah he may be perfect due to his boop but if the player who picks him has like 2 minutes on him, we arent going anywhere near the first point

i know i shouldnt pop cash towards ow2 anymore, but i really wanted to play pve and im a big lore nerd. the pve modes were really fun and the rare times you find a 4stack legendary game can be really tense

I'm sorry, I disagree with it being worthwhile. I love Overwatch and I really love your streams and the community is amazing, but you can get so many better things. If we assume they'll release another 3 levels with a similar play time for 15 dollars, players will have paid at least 30 dollars for 6 levels and 2 hours of game time. Would you pay this money for other games with this little content? You can also get something cool for your loved ones with this money. On top of this, the Toronto mission's unchanged from 2019 (minus the skill trees, whose abilities will probably get recycled into new heroes, similar to how sigma's kit is recycled from discarded kit parts for other heroes.) However, the 15 dollars aren't by themselves. Blizzard tries to get players to spend 10 dollars every two months for the battle pass on top of the 30 dollars they want for skins (yes, it's 26 dollars, but Overwatch only takes tokens and blizzard doesn't sell a 26 dollar token bundle.) On top of this come the recyled skins they sell. You said yourself that lifeguard mercy seems to be an older, previously unreleased skins, due to it lacking features, yet the selling price is 26 dollars. They also keep selling Overwach 1 skins that were available for free for 20-ish dollars, bleeding new players dry. It feels dirty to even touch this game. Now, it's true, you're not forced to buy these skins or the battle pass, but the game reminds you all the time when you're using the free pass and content creators constantly show, use, and talk about the latest skins. They might not even realize that, but they sort of peer pressure their viewers into buying these products. In addition, bigger Overwatch creators, often receive the battle passes for free, alongside the story content, and some even get flown out to blizzard hq or to Overwatch league tournaments by blizzard. Upper management tries to win their favor this way. And the problem is: it works. Suddenly kind individuals defend or downplay this money-grubbing scheme by blizzard, a company known for verbally and physically mistreating employees and fleecing its customers. On top of this, several content creators don't emphasize that they receive the battle passes for free, leaving players with the false impression that their favorite streamers paid money for this content, which convinces them to spend money on this game too.

The story was very mid compared to overwatch standards.. the gameplay has to change drastically, because Omg this version is so boring , pew pew wave clearing , the AI is bad , the only difference with difficulty is the health pool and they become bullet sponges, the the variety of of enemies is piss poor .. they the prices isn’t great I don’t want a bundle I will not finish the battle pass .. when will people stop the cope with the PVE and just move on to PvP
