I don't know about that. Have you seen the price of a Peterbilt? Personally I think peterbilt's angle is the same angle that Harley-Davidson uses. Because everything under the hood is the same thing you can get with other companies. But people want to get a Peterbilt because they want to show off that they have a Peterbilt. Same as a Harley. And using the Harley as an example. Look at how many motorcycles blow the doors off a Harley Davidson. Not only in price and performance but even reliability. But it's that brand loyalty and recognition that keeps people paying that top dollar for average level technology. I think I think Peterbilt is basically the exact same thing.

I never drove a 379 but was on a 359 for 5 years, was the best truck I ever drove in over 40 years of truck driving. If I was to buy a truck today the only one I would even consider would be a 379, they are beautiful!

Kenworth actually still makes a true flat top 42” sleeper and you can get a flat glass still on W9’s today, not very common but you can definitely still get the classic look with Kenworth.

Emission engines.... Madness and downtime. 379 Pre-acert/Pre-emission regular maintenance and basicly no downtime. Iconic in many ways... Reliability, durability and ofcourse the looks. With the 379 you dont even need all these extra lights to make it look good... It looks good on its own.

I hope that this comment is not taken wrong... I'm 73 as of 10/29/20. I was a un educated kid who grew up in a small town and never spent a day in school (wasn't my choice) I worked to help support my family that was Dad's job but he got hurt and so I was the bread winner and worked in the logging industry so from sweeping floors of a shop to handing wrenches to working in their shop after a few years. I turned seventeen and was a tuff little scamp who bullied most who got in my way. That attitude landed me in front of a judge that had little sense of humor and gave me a choice to my fighting and raising cain... five in the pen or three in the army so army took me in and changed my mind about who wore the biggest pair of ***s. I figured that most didn't like me and wore a chip on my shoulder till Nam changed me forever. I came home disgraced cause I just didn't get it and so with guitar on my back and calluses I went back to logging and found I didn't fit anymore and the nineteen inch arms never made me a bigger or better man and found a life in the seat of a old mack... soon I owned it and then after a while of being broke, drove a while and found a girl. I swapped the attitude for grateful for a job to take care of her and did real good. I married the town tramp I found out the hard way and so song, liquor, and a truck seat was home again and at 27 a ruined person for much of anything. I started keeping my mouth shut and walking away from battles, got a job that put me in the hospital from getting my back broken when they drug a log over me. Now I am a truck driver for sure as no longer able to walk so well. I found or she did and followed me till I gave in and got married again. I was doing good as a driver and wound up with part of my wages and a 70 Pete truck that needed some work to get back on the road... I made it into a beauty and so a bad (not my fault) accident took that and me kinda out. I went to work for another outfit driving again an found my girl who couldn't live without me was doing quite well for herself when I was on the road. I ended that and never ever remarried again. I was a good mechanic an would of stayed with that maybe but found I missed that open road.... My last truck was a W900 and she was sweet. 1693 cat and found that a fifteen speed was okay if I didn't plant my foot so deep into that little flat peddle. I just figured it would last but the taste of liquor found me again and so with a score of tickets, left washington state for alaska in 84. I loved my truck that had the 82 on the sticker and it got good money and alaska was a wild raise hell country that needed truck drivers as well. I did the logging trucks but come a break down, they found I was a dang good mechanic who could fab weld wrench and big money fell my way. I traded that seat that I loved for tools and become good at that. After near getting killed doing just that and someone else's screw up crippled me fair to bad, I went home to a cabin I had built, found myself fixing cars and trucks again an did real good but some taste of booze would get me tangled with the law. I had just got out of jail and was living at home again when a buddy showed up with two pups that were scared out of their wits and took them in. I had a purpose and never touched liquor again. I built my business again and eventually a decent home and shop, a huge pile of tools and would of done good. Dogs don't live forever damn it! I lost them after 12 1/2 years and almost lost my way again. NO drinking or such, just injuries that had found me and caught up to me. I can walk maybe ten feet but my back gives out so use my elbows to get around and now a walker. Embarrassing and humiliating, I lost everything again as payments on stuff I never needed got me in trouble. Being bitter most my life I went for about eight or more years without a purpose. A couple of months ago, I am with a friend and he told me I needed a dog. So in front of a humain center, I got a dog that no one wanted and bailed him out of jail. We have grown on each other and he is quite devoted. Rex an I need each other and he is very protective of me but just loves his freedom, and everyone plus anything with hair is his buddy too. Not one aggressive bone in his whole body but curled at my feet right now. I have a directive for him and money saved for him should I tip over for good. Its tuff on us when we lose someone we care about and he is so loyal that he needs to know and have that in case something does happen to me. I have smoked since I was single digits and never stayed away from them being my one really stupid habit. I have tried to quit but it just never works. I have had my kidneys fail me twice and other problems so just being practical. Yeah I love a long wheelbase truck and wish I could of stayed doing just that. That man has a fine truck and I am sure that a Peterbilt would of made it into my life considering I never liked the t600 anteater nose trucks and cabovers never made me smile. Don't care for them so KW or Pete... sisters in crime to me. I sure loved that W900 tho.

I actually drove a 379 Pete for 2 years (2001-2003) when I worked for an owner-operator out of Long Beach, CA. I really enjoyed that truck a lot and I have pics of it laying around somewhere. It’s where I got my first real taste of “Big Strappin” driving up n down the west coast (I-5 corridor), AZ, NV, TX, NM, and UT. I hauled dairy and produce with it pulling a 53’ Utility reefer. It was green, 13 speed, with 450 horse Cummins so it had plenty of power. (Not nearly as much as my Volvo which has a 565 horse ISX, lol!) I learned a lot driving that old truck and later decided to become an owner-operator myself. So I guess you could say....the Pete 379 started me on the path that led me to where I am today. For that, I will always be grateful to this legendary classic.

As a kid growing up near the Allegany River off of Route 17 ( now I-86 ) near Route 219 there where quite a few Truck Stops. The Pyramid in Kill Buck, Eddy’s in Great Valley, and BJ’s in Great Valley always had Peterbuilts & Kenworths, and Mack’s on the lots. We always enjoyed great food and loved the trucks.

I will always love these. First time I ever "drove" a semi was in a 379. (I was five or six years old and just held the steering wheel while my mom's bf was actually driving, but still) I've noticed they're also the most common on those Super Trucks cards you find at truck stops. Out of about 200 of those I've collected over half are 379s.

I know ST is a Peterbuilt fan, and I'm sure ST makes good points.. but I'm not going to watch most of this.. Because everyone knows the King Of The Road crown is super glued to the top of only one Semi. I know it, and you know it. We can rib each other over this and that, but we all *know* who the real king is. Kenworth W9. Always has been.. Always will be. You can still order up a W9 flat top with split flat glass right now. And full gauges.. FULL gauges.. like 15 freaking round gauges side by side, and almost stick out the passenger side window. Anyway, Pete's a good truck.. Still get a kick out of when someone on the radio screams out they got a big peter. Never gets old. But we all know the W9 is the king. It just is. Now here is the real funny part. Pete and Kenworth are owned by the same company. They be laughing themselves all the way to the bank with your dollar bills. But you got yourself a pretty sweet ride with either one. Love the Pete's started on a 1985 359 then a 1991 379 then a 1999 379 cat 3406E 550hp with 18 speed Ultracet with a 70 inch sleeper that truck was my absolute favorite to this day. Would still have it if I could but California BS emmisions have me waiting on the 2021 389 🤞 hopefully the new X15 doesn't give me too many headaches.

I’ve been in a 379 but didn’t get to drive it. I’ve always liked the 379s...such a cool style of rig. 🤩 There are some big hoods that I’ve really liked over the years...General, Marmon..oldies. I fell in love with cabovers right from the start, but my most favorite truck is the 1951 REO F22RT that my dad bought new. I can see why many people like the 359/379s. My brother loved those large trucks and I always was the cheap guy and my first truck was a 92 Condo Freightliner C/O after that I bought an International 9200 with a 42 in bunk. Craziest Truck my brother owned was a Marmon. All black loaded with lights. It was an intimidating truck going down the highway. Made the 9200 look like a mini truck parked next to it.

Those Marmons were also classics. Rare to find a running one these days. They were hand built and the electrical went south on them over time, Id find one as a project except theres no real parts network for em anymore.

Kenworth didn’t fully get rid of the flat glass look. You could special order a W900 with the classic look if you weren’t a fan of the aerodynamic style. They still do it today.

Absolutely agree 100%! My favorite truck of all time. Only fault I can find; and it's very minor, is that I wish the passenger door opening was a few inches wider. The stack and the air cleaner prevent the door opening as far as I'd like. Can be a bit of a pain loading my gear/supplies sometimes. Other than that, best there is!

I like the diamond and button Kenworth interior but that slope on the hood is a big deal to me. Also the Peterbilt fenders are absolutely gorgeous in polished aluminum

My first OO truck was a 281 "kit" on '53 Autocar aluminum rails. When finished it was a 3-axle with a tag using the single drive from the kit. Page & Page walking beam suspension (aluminum beams), 5 & 3 with a PTO pump. It was almost all aluminum because it was petro tanker in a "Bridge Formula" state (Kalifornia), and every pound saved was revenue. Heil tank trailer rounded it out as truck trailer combo. As I recall it was 27,800 all up with fuel, hoses and tools - pretty light for 1968 ... Cummins formula 270 engine that we breathed on after warranty was up. We still had 200's & 220's running in the fleet. Ran it until the Arab Oil Embargo and lost it to the bank (not enough work). Of all the trucks I've driven, I have to say the L model Macks, the F model Macks, and the 1960's Autocars are my favorites. My last boss loved his Pete's, but gave me a KW (all more modern than my fav's). I was OK with that. Pete cabs have always been a bit narrow for my tastes ...

I have 95 379 with just over 4 million miles on it.documented by pacar.e model cat.same block same crank.inframed twice.it is garage kept.and I've owned this truck for 25 years.

@@SmartTrucking I went one point six million miles before first rebuild.there was a recall on the camshaft and they were initially first replaced at 450 thousand.but first inframe at 1.6million miles.if God made a better truck He kept it for Himself

I drove both the 379 and 389 and my first 09 389 was the first year with the regen and the exhausts bolted solid to the frame and to the top of the cab and with a 46k lb air trac suspension i thought I was in a Army tank . Talk about a back breaker . Couldn’t wait to get out of it everyday. My last 389 was a 14 glider kit with a 99 rebuilt series 60 and the old school y pipe and flexipipe exhausts and the 40k low air suspension. Now that was a nice ride, but hated the projector headlights. Seemed like I could never see the road in the rain. Driving a 10 pro star now with the old style reflector lights and wet roads are no problem now . If I could order a Pete for myself I think I’d like to try the 567 axle forward . It’s a sharp looking Pete too

I remember when the Unibuilt cab / bunk came out..... a good friend was a service tech @ a Pete dealer. He would tell me how they would wedge 2x4s into the door jamb and force the doors nearly shut on 2 month old trucks (under warranty) because the doors would not seal. There was so much flex in the early Unibuilts nothing would stay lined up.

I am currently in a 388 heavy hauler with the Air Trac you mentioned, yes, its stiff. This is a nice truck, a baby 389 with same power, but I do miss my 379 and my 389. I had a couple W9s 20 years ago and they were decent trucks, I cant say anything bad except the dash is a bit more plasticky. The KW QC option is an improvement, and you can hear the turbo whistle clearer. I guess for me its 389 first, 379 second and W9 third.

Sadly, new PACCAR engines have just as many emissions problems as the rest of the lot. The 579 didn't make it a year without ending up at the dealer and the T360 made it about 2.

I had a 96 379x hood with a 63" stand up bunk. It had a 6nz c15 cat and 18 speed. I put 900000 miles on that truck in 9 years. I really miss that truck it pulled like a freight train and road like a Cadillac. But I got sick of the over the road life and sold it. I work local now

Won't deny style and grace of a 379, but the FLD132 is more my style. The Classic XL may be one of my first choice if I were going to buy a truck, but I'd gladly settle for an older 379 if need be. And while it's on my mind I feel like Freightliner missed the mark when they came up with the design for the Coronado. I like the traditional style of it but the breather inlets kill the look for me so I can't say the Coronado would be one of my first choices.

One thing i prefer on the pete over the kw im driving now is that the mirrors are mounted to the door not the main cab. Backing around at a sharp angle, just open the door to put the mirror where you need it.

379 Is my favorite Pete. The 89 and 59 are too much show trucks to me. Also as a KW guy I love the dual square headlights of the 379 just perfect and looks great on any other model pete.

I've driven KW, Western Stars, Internationals and Pete's, and I will tell you that Western Stars are probably the best built trucks on the road. Roomiest cabs I've ever been in, and tough as nails. They'd be my first choice for an O/O truck...

I'm sorry to say the company I work for has drank the Penske/Freightliner kool-aid. That move is not beneficial to any company in my opinion as the equipment is, I would say complete and total garbage although by saying this I'm unfairly insulting trash of all types. While on the interstate during the day or night, it's always a pleasure to see the 379's rolling along. BEAUTIFUL trucks with a build quality that is unmatched. Maybe someday.

My first nose was a 379. Moved from a cab-over to a 379. Talk about a change. The low step 👍. Easiest backing truck. Have driven a W9 they look great going down the road but that turning radius 😬. Can not deny there is not another truck out there that gives you that snotty little attitude like a big old 379. Pride in your ride. Honestly I love all big trucks-some are you know. 💕

I think Peterbilt defined what the classic American class 8 truck is supposed to look like. It’s like everyone calls an adhesive bandage a bandaid. When you think semi you think Peterbilt 379 or siblings.

Yes they are, long live the square long hoods!!. I agree with you on, a friend of mine was selling me a w900l i tried to like it but that downward slope on the hood just kills it for me I can’t do it👎🏻, in my opinion kenworth on that w900l messed up pointing that hood down, that’s why the 379 flat LH is the king of the road 👑.

the 379 started the unibilt in 93, the 87-92 379 was non air ride cab with the small hole bunk, also bout that time 93 was switch to electronic engines, air trac suspension is indeed ruff but if u can tough it out it will never break or bust on ya especially pullin tandem tandem,yes i agree the 379 is the king and allways will be, tge w9 is still a large car but not as large as the pete
