Easily the best video on this trade, but the complainers will still complain. As for the prospect pool, I know only forwards were mentioned for the purposes of this video, but the Sabres also have good defensive depth and goaltending depth in their pool. And this trade was made after the completion of the development camp, so I'm sure Adams and Co. came away from that camp feeling like moving Savoie wouldn't hurt their depth much. Having said this, Adams needs to work on his trade negotiation skills as the Sabres shouldn't have to continually overpay in trades. Maybe take a few lessons from Regier, who at the least made sure the Sabres weren't getting fleeced in deals.

Good breakdown - just remember Sabre fans two things about him : 1. He's not physical, he's bigger (though skinny) and can certainly take a hit he shy's away from the tough areas and tends to play a perimeter game. 2. He's prone to mistake - including a massive gaffe in the Vcr series that nearly cost us. We were up 3 to 0 with 9 minutes left in game 7. We were in total control, on our way to a shutout win (4 or 5 to 0 as Vcr was going to pull goalie soon), Skinner (Oiler goalie) stops puck behind the net, Ekholm picks it up, moves it ahead to Mcleod, see's a Canuck coming at him though not under a great deal of duress, has lots of time and whiffs completely on a zone clear literally giving the puck to a Canuck who walks in unmolested and scores. Canucks get life, score again 2 minutes later to make it 3 to 2. Mcleod is stapled to the bench, his confidence shot. Luckily our D held Canucks to ZERO shots on goal after that and we win the series, but in the process, in last minute Draisaitl blocks a shot with his hand and breaks a finger, and that may have cost us a Cup. Th That is who you are getting. He'll contribute when he's not scoring (he can go 30 games with about 3 assists) with Pk and just his speed, but he'll be disappointing at times too

These bone heads have 13M in cap space , and sure they got to resign Bowen, and UPL but you don't deal your top prospect for a career AHL player[Tullio], and a third line 30 point at best player [McLeod]. No chance does this help Buffalo make the playoffs, and now there is nobody left to sign in the UFA pool. Very bad GM management on this trade. The Oilers had to dump McLeod's salary to begin with. I can't believe Edmonton got anything better than a 3rd round pick. I was thinking the Oilers might be the ones trading a pick just to dump McLeod's salary. In the big picture Buffalo not only does the Oilers a favor , they hand them a top prospect on top of it. Insane. Fire Adams, who also just signed Zucker for 5M as well.

Great analysis and insight regarding the nuances of McLeod's game. His perimeter play, hockey IQ and speed are what make him so capable of moving up the roster. These combined traits often open up the ice for line mates. He does the little things right, plays a defensive minded game and is often a disruptive menace forcing turnovers. Intangibles that you can't teach or coach will make him one of Lindy Ruff's favorite tools. This was a smart trade for Buffalo and Savoie now gets a chance to go home and play with his older brother. The way I see it, GMKA is trying to repair the reputation of this organization thru doing right by players/prospects and sending them somewhere they can flourish; ie Reinhart, Okposo and now Savoie. As an "inexperienced" GM, he has to pay his dues in the trade market and at the same time, make a name for himself among players in the league as a good faith representative of their interests as well as the organization. IMHO it's been a "CRUEL SUMMER" for Kevyn Adams, acquiring Malenstyn with house money in Las Vegas and still walking away a winner at 14 selecting Helenius, then he went out and brought in Malenstyn's linemate Aube-Kubel alongside a laundry list of UFA two way players who bring speed, size and grit to the lineup. The opinionated majority chanting Fire Kevyn Adams aren't worth tendering a two cent qualifying offer.

@@bjarczykI'm looking forward to it, I subscribed to your channel last week. However, I must admit the facts of life are the best defender of Adams and Ruff's rebuild of their bottom 6. An opinion is the lowest form of intelligence, everyone has one, most aren't worth the characters designated. There's a small portion of society with critical thinking abilities, about 20% of the population posesses this trait. The majority of fans voicing their disdain of the Buffalo Sabres moves this summer haven't the ability to reason good sense let alone critical thinking skills. They aren't even capable of forming their own thoughts and developing their own opinions, they just pile on with garbage, uninformed takes of the local nuclear reactors whose toxic opinions create a polluted narrative. I'm looking forward to watching a hockey club that plays fast and physical game that has role players on the opposing team looking for a way off of the ice in the third period of a close game. A team with a grind it out mentality is what Lindy Ruff always put on the ice in Buffalo. Look forward to lots of three goal games, where the team that tallies two goes home with the points. The trade makes sense for both organizations. Edmonton will be the winners in 2 years time when Savoie is on the first or second line and pp 2. McLEOD’S biggest knock is his perimeter play and lack of physical intensity. Great face off guy but loses puck battles one-on-one. His speed is his biggest strength and a change of scenery may do him well. Savoie will have time to percolate until injuries or cap issues allow him to be brought up from the AHL.

As someone who has watched every nhl game basically of McLeod, if he committed to defense and be a bit harder to play against he would be a great fit as a 3C. But his speed is far and away his best attribute, but after that it's hard to pinpoint the next best skill. He is fast, but stays on the perimiter off the rush, gets on the forecheck fast but doesnt finish hits, has an underrated shot but doesnt shoot ebough and looks to pass off but isnt good ebough playmaker to defer good shooting areas. Buffalo is getting a 3rd line player for as long as they want to keep him and there is value for a player like that but you'd think a 2nd round pick could get you something similar.

My biggest issue with this move is overpaying for a guy who is known pretty well for being soft. He’s all speed and no physicality with no offensive touch. And that’s literally the complete opposite of what Adams has preached he’s wanting to add to the roster. Even with savioe’s health and size being a question. Giving up on him after two years and moving him for an AHLer and a bottom six forward when he still has the upside of being a top 6 or possibly top line player is what the fans are mad at. No disrespect to McLeod, but this is a major overpayment at this point when comparing Savoie and his upside vs what McLeod and what hes been in his nhl career to this point.

@@KarleenaCrawford Sabres fans who don't understand the elementary concept of supply and demand are why these types of trades are perceived to rarely work out in Buffalo. Go look at the trade market and find a better tool for Lindy Ruff, McLeod fits the bill. In reality, fans live in fantasy land thinking they are going to pay the price to acquire a top 6 NHL ready forward. They could have sent an offer sheet for a pending RFA and made a splash to appease fans, instead they traded for a player who adds great value against the cap, kills penalties, forces turnovers like a Top 10 SEC DB, wins defensive zone face-offs and has a 30PT NHL season under his belt. Matt Savoie is a top ten draft pick, more precisely, a player who after playing less than 4 minutes in the NHL was labeled a developmental player while McLeod is a proven NHL'er and Playoff point producer. It's got to be a long road carrying the bags of other bus riders whose hot takes are nothing but loosely formed stool. Honest opinion from a 44 year old dude that watched nearly every game of McLeod's career so far: - He's at best a 3rd liner (4th on a good team) - Great at Penalty killing and above avg on the dot - So fast sometimes you think it's Connor McDavid with the puck - He is one the most scared players with the puck I've ever seen. He'll carry it in and immediately want to get rid of it - If there's a puck battle, he's losing it 90% of the time. If he is in position to take a hit to make a play, he's abandoning the play... (MY BIGGEST GRIPE WITH HIM) - He's not that skilled. He had one highlight goal in his whole time with us. He went over 30 games without a goal this year, while playing multiple shifts a game with Leon Draisaitl... I had so much hope for him, and maybe not having so many forwards that are not losing their spots ahead of him will allow him to change his game and get more aggressive. If he stops being the player that you yell at for flipping the puck away to avoid a hit he honestly could be a solid 3rd liner. If he takes the puck to the net more, instead of going to the boards and around the net with it all the time and camping there for passes, maybe even a 2nd line guy. Lots of people in Edmonton in the Cup finals on talk radio and social media were wanting him to be a healthy scratch, they were that upset with his play beyond penalty killing. So even on our 4th line he was barely sticking on the team in the finals, when you hope players like that show up more. Hope you get a motivated new Ryan McLeod cuz even though he was a frustrating, often disappointing player to watch, we all were behind him. He's got a great no teeth smile that you just root for.

Sorry to say Buffalo but it sounds like you dont know who McLeod is. He hates having the puck on his stick and hates physicallity. He can skate but loses 90 percent of the puck battles hes in. Good in the faceoffs but 100 percent a perimeter player and no where close to Middlestadt

Ok lance . You lost all credibility with me. How much did pegula pay you😢? Savoie should have not been traded for a 3 line center. #1 Oilers are over the cap even after the trade for Ryan and the sabres have cap space, easy trade off for an extra contract. #2 Adam henrique was signed to be the oilers 3rd line center. THIS MADE RYAN EXPENDABLE! here is what the trade should have been 3rd round pick going to oilers plus kozak. You use players like Matt for a top 3 player not bottom 6. What is the worst that could have happened throw savoie on line 1 for 25 games with tage and see what he can do. Inflate his value for kocerny on Philadelphia

Hi guys, just wonder why U have NOT signed yet U-P Luukkonen 🇫🇮 ? Is Levin considered better goalie? He is NOT. Your roster looks bit weak. You need to try to get into play offs., Finally. How you gonna do it? It seems your GM and managwment team is in sleep, like the guys in Carolina. Mittelstadt was far better player Ryan McCloud. But he was cheap.
@abucelato
@abucelato 2 күн бұрын
Because Luukkonen has had 1 good NHL season, and is probably asking for too much money. And if you sign him to a big deal, what does that say to Devin Levi? I think they will eventually sign Lukkonen but i have a feeling that is why he isn't signed yet. They kinda have to tip toe around this situation.

Why did the Sabres draft so many similar small skilled forwards and then trade one of them because they have too many small skilled forwards? Savoie (extremely fast) was their top pick out of three 1st rounders in 2022. The Sabres draft strategy was flawed. They might realize that now, but they wasted draft capital (top 10 pick) for a depth forward (McLeod). Great trade for Edmonton. They (EDM) get all the upside in the deal. Lysowski has been drinking the Kevyn Adams Kool-Aid. It sounds like a propaganda video with all GMKA's talking points. Stop rationalizing bad decisions from this GM.
