I've had this same bike for 4 years and have put 10K miles on it. BTW, this is by far the best review I have seen on the bike and I have seen them all.! I'm 210 pounds and ride in a very hilly area daily. I still get about 30 miles between charges and do a lot of riding on the 2 highest assist levels. I switched out the stock Pathfinder tire for Pathfinder Pro's and found the ride more supple. I also upgraded to a Redshift suspension seatpost as well as their suspension stem which in combination makes this bike an incredible joy to ride!

Great review. I bought this bike just to make my commute to work easier, but it’s become my favourite. I enjoy riding it so much that I ride it more than my Trek Fuel Exe. I do recommend removing the stock Pathfinders, going tubeless and get some good 45mm gravel tyres (I’ve got Schwalbe Overlands and they’re great). For the money, this bike is an absolute bargain. I do agree with you on those welds though! Hopefully they bring out a carbon version in the future like the Santa Cruz Skitch.

I have a cube hybrid cross and I love it, although it’s 8kg heavier than the vado . I Bought it just before the lockdown after major knee surgery in 2019 . love riding it and like you I can now do the mega tough hills I would have avoided with my normal bike so it’s opened up new routes for me, I do find the reaction of most people annoying when I say I have an e-bike 😮 great vid

Great video Steve, nice to find a UK based review that is honest. Those welds are rubbish eh? I have a Sirrus 4x and am wavering about getting a Vado. Cheers

I have this bike the sl 5.0 in the silver and love it, it's great for easier / rest days when not using my road bike. The only thing I don't like and wish I could change is all the cables at the front end for light ect it's the only thing that really let's the looks of the bike down in my opinion

E-bikes are amazing for fitness. You can just dial the assist down and then you've got to move a heavier bike around. I find they keep me in that zone 2 area for longer.

I've had my SL for 4 years, but it definitely needs an upgrade for a little more power and a slightly bigger battery. Other Specialised models have the Mahle 1.2 motor giving 50 nm of torque and a 400 w/hr battery. Specialised have neglected the SL, and it's fallen behind similar bikes from other manufacturers.

Great Video Steve, just wondering, at 5:05..... it says on the signs that cyclists must dismount.... DO YOU ? I have had a Specialized Turbo Como SL IGH 5.0 its helped me shed pounds in 2 ways, one was I lost weight and gained leg, lungs and Heart power to go to a Normal Bike as well, a Trek Dual Sport DS3 ver 5,. lost 22 pounds of weight between the bikes alone. SORRY using pounds vs metric although here in Canada we do use metric..... the TREK weighs 12 kg and my Como SL weighs 22 kg.... so I loose 10 kg or 22 pounds..... looking at this Bike now, although I might need the EQ or fully equipped with the fenders, lights and side rack mounts.... CHEERS, and Great video... I'm only 5 7 but 195 pounds all legs...( riding motors )....

@@SteveJulien quick question as I have some time pressure on me: did you _actually_ get a suspension seatpost and/or stem on your non-EQ Vado SL 4.0? I've heard the seatpost swap is very hard as the non-EQ model has the rear light wired through there. And I've heard that adding suspension to the stem takes quite a lot of jerry-rigging of lights, etc. on the front. ( for these reasons, i've been looking at the EQ and the 5.0, but don't love the higher prices. ) if you don't want to spill any beans publicly, i understand (maybe a DM, then?)...

but it has no suspension, and the spring in the handlebars is not enough, the impact will reach you anyway. And the power of 2x the rider's power is confusing.
