Great message, i feel the same about today’s cards. I pretty much buy a few packs from the LCS and treat them like lottery tickets…SELL SELL SELL!

I’m a Montrealer, so I collect old Canadiens rookies from their glory days. We actually had another NHL team called the Montreal Maroons, and I try to collect those too, though they folded before WW2 so that’s pretty hard. I also have a nice collection of the Team Canada 1972 summit series members. And I’ll always have a soft spot for the Montreal expos. Got some Ikea shelves and some cheap clear shelves online, and decorated the walls of my basement corner bar. It’s a nice discussion piece. Condition and grading means nothing to me. I just want the card and the piece of history. Sometimes a real beat up card tells a better story.

Certainly money plays a big role in the hobby, and many of the most desirable cards have a big price tag, but once you detach from the monetary cost and COLLECT WHAT YOU LOVE ive found that the hobby becomes infinitely more enjoyable. In the past, i've been guilty of measuring my attachment to a card based on the secondary market value, but ive found more and more that satisfaction comes from owning the cards you are personally interested in, regardless of monetary value. Love the message, great video 👍👍

Totally agree. I'm a huge Nascar fan and have thousands of cards. I buy a lot and sell very little. Always bothers me on social media groups when people introduce themselves with the line "I'm new to collecting, what's worth buying?" Or "what should I get". That tells me immediately they are looking to make a quick buck. I feel the sports card market will cool off in a few more years after several thousand people go through bankruptcies because of credit card debt and divorces.

I grew up in the 80s and my teams were the Braves (thanks WTBS) and Yankees (77 World Series was the first game I watched on TV). I collect Mattingly and Murphy, but I also collect Willie Randolph, Graig Nettles, Ron Guidry, and Dave Righetti. I've got a few more modern guys that I also collect (Trout, Pujols, and Ichiro), but a lot of people might laugh at my collection. But I don't give a flying you-know-what because I collect what makes me happy, not what I think anyone else would be impressed by. I'm too old to care about impressing other people anyway.

Honestly, what exactly is it that people want when they talk about "Hobby Growth"?? Its cards. Thats it. What is supposed to be happening within the industry that isn't? There's a huge social media presence, stores are everywhere, there are conventions every weekend in multiple cities in every state, cards are selling at record prices. The industries so big that scammers have taken notice,, a sign of popularity. It seems like the topic has just become a beacon for content.

Right it’s gotta be as big as it’s ever been. I can’t believe some of the card prices I see for non-sports cards.

I always thought the hobby is in the ultimate catch 22. Should the card companies make a lot of cards that are affordable to the masses but risk the cards being worthless?. Or do they temper production so the cards have better chance of being valuable, but price the average Joe out?

Most vendors I've met that "swing that thang" almost always are jerks to their customers. I'd pay more to a guy who appreciates my purchase instead of giving my money to a douchebag.

We all should collect what we like. That’s what this hobby is all about. And The 1980’s Has Some Great Cards. I Would Be Interested In The 1979 Cello Pack. 73P. Thanks!

🤔. I wonder if that was a Topps “clearly” card? If so, it was up on eBay about a week ago……. Light Blue Parallel, #16/25. Beautiful card, cuz I bid on it but was a little short! 🙈
