This past Thursday’s game was a strange one. From the atmosphere, anyone could sense the Steelers were going to lose. I'm not surprised by the loss, but the way they played and the play-calling were frustrating. Mike Tomlin’s decisions were disappointing and, frankly, baffling-especially the lack of emphasis on utilizing the tight ends. What happened to the days of players like Heath Miller and Eric Green? Tight ends have always been crucial to making the offense more effective. And then there’s Mike Williams-why aren’t they taking full advantage of these two tall receivers? The Steelers have an impressive arsenal of young talent, but it feels like Arthur Smith doesn’t know how to maximize their potential. This could become a major issue down the road, especially when facing teams like the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have shown they’re vulnerable, barely escaping a loss almost could've to the Carolina Panthers. If the Steelers can iron out the kinks in their playbook and return to the basics, they have a real shot at securing the second seed in the playoffs. If not, they might drop to the third seed. To make this happen, they must incorporate the tight ends into the offense more effectively. The potential is there, but the strategy needs to catch up.

We lost that game because of a Fields package. The only reason that he was in on that last drive was because Arthur Smith wanted to show that Fields could throw a "moonball" like Russ. Less Fields. Far less. Especially in the red zone. Fields becomes a liability because he's so 1 dimensional. He had 1 good run against Cleveland. After that Cleveland smashed Fields. And even Fields admitted putting him in upsets the rhythm of the entire offense. You want to fix Pittsburgh's red zone issues? Russell Wilson threw 20 red zone touchdowns last season in 15 games with worse receivers and running backs than he has now. Open up the playbook. STOP 🛑 running to nowhere on 1st and goal and 2nd and goal then expecting Russ and the receivers to save the day on 3rd and goal. And let Russ audible out of run plays when he sees the play is going to fail. What's the purpose of having tall receivers and tight ends if we're not using them in the red zone? 🤔

Before that. Fields did all the dirty work while the offense was building chemistry. In his last game they scored thirty something points. JF had a better completion %, he dealt with dropped passes and penalties. Tomlin inserted Russ right when the offense was starting to click. He adds a dynamic level that Russ doesn’t have and he’s a better option especially in the red zone.
