You’re right there’s junk food everywhere in Thailand nowadays, even most small towns have a few 7 elevens. They also now use vegetable oil for most of their traditional cooking and also eat and drink loads of sugary foods without a care. An interesting fact about the monks, they’re not allowed to eat anything past midday which you would assume would make them skinny. But many of them are overweight because they consume sugary drinks for the rest of the day.

Yup plant oils, sugars and other empty calorie foods with loads of calories! Almost all monks I see in Thailand eat all day they also own Canon cameras, mobile phones and even smoke cigarettes but all the ones that do not do this are super slim.

It is everywhere. It is funny your girlfriend's timeline marker is 2002. I went to Barcelona in May 2002 and recalled the physique of most people was very good and food wise everything being meat heavy. To put in context I am from the West Indies and my Spanish language teacher as part of teaching Spanish culture explained how their ham and cheese in Spain is revered (which I was like why is it just ham and cheese!). So when I went I understood the context of her lessons and could not believe how nice the meats were. Went back in 2019 and I visibly noticed how much fatter people were and how much bread as a main staple had taken over from the meat and seafood. In terms of East Asia generally, I have noticed in the last couple years the anti fat, anti meat propaganda and fast food product placement has gone up the Richter scale in all their television shows. These companies cottoned on to another way to push their crap.

I lived in Vietnam for 10years it was the same there as well the kids are the biggest indicator of body shape change. The fast-food chains got their claws in there as well as well as lifestyle changes resulted in obesity becoming more common!

Its probably similar to Mexico and most other Latin American countries where unhealthy processed food and overeating on vegan crap is wreaking havoc on the local population. Most of them are insulin resistant already by the age of 12 which is ironic considering all the central and South American countries have the best that nature has to offer everywhere

I agree, Thai people are eating a lot of processed foods, including junky carb-filled snacks. The drinks there are intensely sweet, and even the lower sugar drinks are full of artificial sweeteners so it still tastes too sweet. The only oil they use to cook is vegetable oil because it's cheap. Thai food isn't especially high in vegetables to begin with, although they use a lot of herbs. People there get takeaway and delivery often, if not daily, because it is so cheap, and it's probably not half as healthy as it looks. Plus lunchboxes are filled with rice or noodles. On top of that, restaurants and cafeterias let you add several toppings, as much as you like, and one of them is sugar. I saw an older woman dump more than a spoonful of sugar on her noodles, and many dishes and snacks have added sugar, things you wouldn't expect to be sweet. Almost everything has sugar in it. Compare that to Taiwan, where there are a few dishes with sugar, but most are savory. They don't really add sugar to foods. They have the same junky snacks, and eat high carb but are less obese. Taiwan also has a vibrant night market culture with plenty of protein-filled foods. I'm pretty sure it's the sugar.

Yup your spot on for sure, just lots of nutrient less garbage way too often in the standard westernised thai diet but guess what? My Thai girlfriend ate like how your saying and she was so thin because she was always in a severe calorie deficit. Taiwan also consumes more meat if you look into the research when compared to Thailand so thats a huge factor also for them being less obese.

Basically this all comes down to economics, a country gets richer so people can buy more food and more variety of food. They have enough money to buy snacks and processed food whereas before they could only afford enough traditional food from the land to live off. Thailand has the third highest GDP of SE Asia so it makes sense. Also the shear variety of food in Thailand because of its rich history of tourism gives Thais a large selection of food to choose from including western foods like burgers and KFC. Also most Thai families have a car or at least a scooter so people are less active and less people working on the land now and work in offices and in factories which isn't good for weight loss.
@ConsciousCalisthenics
@ConsciousCalisthenics 4 жыл бұрын

are they consuming more vegetable oils? that's all it takes, switch from pork fat and coconut oils to low priced vegetable oils and not only do you gain fat but the fat you gain is harder to get rid of, this fat will also cause metabolic syndromes. its not just the sugars and processed foods, what they cook at home in that shit oil is making them fatter faster.
@alienatedbeing7513
@alienatedbeing7513 4 жыл бұрын
Yep they use vegetable oils in pretty much all their food as most of it’s cooked in woks. So even when they eat traditional dishes nowadays they’re laced with unhealthy oils. And they normally wash their food down with a sugary drink!

ive made it a point to only eat animal fats, i don't even use olive or coconut oils. the only time i consume sugar is in a mixed drink, once in a great while a dessert at a party. i do eat fruit, the only plant foods i eat is spices sometimes potatoes, white rice a few times a week. my weight and fat levels are stable. alcohol is the biggest contributor to fat gain for me when i over do it.

Its about an excess of calories not being burnt up by the person eating them, I could eat any diet and lose weight as long as I am in calorie deficit and this is why the IIFYM diet works wonders for weight loss for anyone that does it.

I know someone who is obese and he found on the high fat carnivore diet he was not losing weight due to eating a calorie surplus but once he went super high protein and lower fat guess what? He has since then shedding fat for months without gaining anything due to feeling satiated easily which allows him to in a calorie deficit.

Great observations, Danny! Thai people, or any other peoples, are better off staying on their ancestral diets. This is why the SAD diet (exported nowadays to so many countries unfortunately) and also newer diets such as veganism can never work long-term - people are not designed genetically (humans have evolved to eat primarily animal products as per N15 isotope analysis which proves this irrefutably) and ancestrally to be on such diets. The SAD diet and veganism are also very unhealthy diets, each in its own way.

Now we know that chemicals in a food and then sugar leading to insulin problems are the culprit of obese people, b/c not everyone eating sugar and high calorie diet will get fat, the inner visceral fat is worst...I hope you will look into insulin problems topic! hugs...

Calories in calories out is science - u will lose weight in a calorie deficit period. Science doesn’t just change - vegan diet or carnivore diet doesn’t make u thin it’s a reduction of calories. Health of course is dependent on the type of food otherwise said losing weight isn’t necessarily indicative of health

It's not that simple, just reduce calories and lose weight. If that was the case then a lot of people would not be over weight. I can tell you that you know nothing about weight loss. There have been experiments were people were given a lower calorie diet even as low as 700 calories and the body's metabolism slowed down to prevent it from losing more weight. The problem is actually fat itself. There's a reason why fat is called fat. Fat doesn't mean skinny. The fat you eat is the fat you wear. Anytime somebody eats fat it gets stored immediately. On the other hand carbs get used immediately for energy and any excess carbohydrates get burned off as heat, a process called dietary thermogenesis.

Dan Phoenix most of the blue zone areas of people who live a long life have low calories in common, they don’t have a lot of muscle because of the low calorie but that also means they live longer. It seems that being lean, not too muscular and eating Lower calories results in longer life. You might not be able to deadlift 700lbs but you’ll most likely live a longer healthier life lol. And yes I agree, Processed foods put more stress on the body and if u combine that with more calories than your body burns off that’s extra stress. But I think even if u eat shitty food eating lower calories allows the body to processed the junk. Just like the WW2 vet that lives to 114 years. He ate ice cream, whisky and smoked cigars all day. But he probably only ate like 1200 calories a day

Clear answer diet the country can not produce the likes of Beef this is a problem and the other types of meat is fairly low quality. High sugar and carb foods this is a big issue in Thailand also from being on the ground their and family members over their they have jumped on the protein bars and shakes train for example on the go. (doesn't help that some workers do work 16hrs a day) Calories in calories out is false doesn't work like that come on you should know this. Danny you are not on the main land of Thailand are you?

I buy the most highest quality beef in Thailand that is pasture raised, antibiotic free, hormone free and you can get it easily in shops here alongside lamb of the same quality etc so what your saying is not true in regards to not having high quality animal foods and its a huge growing market with a very high demand here. "Calories in calories out is false doesn't work like that come on you should know this. Danny you are not on the main land of Thailand are you?" Haha what your saying is so insanely wrong, go research the IIFYM diet or Blakes diet which are insanely high carb diets, and guess what? everyone gets insanely high weight loss results rapidly due to being in a calorie deficit. PS, I am in Chiang Mai.

@@ConsciousCalisthenics Good for you that you can source it and afford that most normal people over their can not do that. I stated high quality from that country the high quality stuff will be produced in other countries and you may get the odd few in the country but again unreasonable pricing for the masses. Calories in = calories out not wrong at all this has been proven you are using a basic math model thermodynamics and 100% forgotten biological which is humans so other factors play a role otherwise RDA would be spot on for everyone the other thing not all calories are equal very outdated method to just calorie count which is why most will use macro counting now because its about nutrition plus each person needs to find their line yourself it may be 3000 calories myself i have been eating carnivore 1500 not gained or lost any weight I used to eat around 3000 when eating mixed macro carbs processed garbage and still didn't gain doing the samething. So you are in the north how would you compare that to other parts? never been to the North and neither has any of family members they are more based close to Bangkok places like Samut Sakhon Thanks for the answers anyway appreciate your channel and passed on about your workout videos to some friends who are really enjoying trying them out especially with lockdown still going on for some of them.

People are getting fatter because they dont have a balanced diet of carbohydrates and protein in their meal we need carbohydrates to keep our metabolism going but without protein we will not be able to keep lean muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is needed to be insulin sensitive. We are omnivores in nature and we need both carbs, protein and a little amount of fat in our diets. Its called protein to energy ratio. If we overeat energy it will get stored.
@ConsciousCalisthenics
@ConsciousCalisthenics 4 жыл бұрын
I disagree because when I transformed my body I was only getting around 50gs of protein a day and around 300gs+ of carbs most days, I gained 10kgs of muscle in one year as you can see in my video with over 5 million views kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5bVeaKsrtifkJY But yes I agree on over eating, it will be stored as excess fat (stored energy).
