Tom Hardy's Venom hits theaters in late 2018 and fans don't know what to think. Is it too soon for a Venom solo film? Will Tom Holland's Spider-Man be in it? What About Carnage? In this video I tried to sum up why I think the project has potential.

Great video! While I have been a little bit apprehensive towards the idea of a Venom movie, that's mostly down to Sony's complete incompetence, not the quality of talent involved. The film's managed to put together one hell of a cast, and I'd love to be proved wrong and Venom turns out amazing... but you know, Sony...

They already have...... No Spider-Man, No set up. It's a rush job to create a Venom Cinematic Universe (VCU) for sony to exploit the Spider-Man universe without using Spider-Man. Just so Sony can create a cash cow it doesn't have to share with Marvel. The film has greed as its motivation..... So it will suck in classic Sony fashion.

The only reason why I don't like the idea of a Sony Venom movie is how it could potentially mess with the continuity of the MCU. Having the same Spider-Man cross over between two somewhat disconnected movie universes is confusing to even the most hardcore comic fans. The MCU likely won't ever mention the "Spider-verse", and when Tom Holland's contract with Marvel ends Sony will probably take him back, leaving him absent from future MCU movies. The best solution would be for Sony and Disney to work together on the MCU under one studio, and forget the "spiderverse" entirely. I just want Tom Holland's Spider-Man to be a permanent character in the MCU, okay?

My expectations are low enough for it that if nothing else I won't be disappointed. The cast is the one thing that really makes me think it could be something better. Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams aren't the type of actors who usually take roles just for the money and exposure. There could be more to script, but I'm not holding my breath.

Granted, Sony have made some questionable choices in regards to their Spiderman movies but I think casting Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Woody Harrelson as a possible Carnage is a massive step in the right direction and I look forward to seeing the final product!

Spoiler for civil war comic ahead which is why how Civil War played out and ended was wrong and pretty lame Cap was supposed to surrender cause he was on the verge of killing tony while his team was winning the fight. When he gets pulled off of tony by CIVILIANS telling him "stop it, your killing him" then Cap looks around and starts balling his eyes out telling his team to surrender. When Spidey (who changes to his side in the comic) asks "why? we're winning" Cap says "yeah, everything but the argument" that panel spoke to how Steve had allowed his team to take things too far because they weren't working with in a sanctioned team of heroes that were being monitored. Put it this way, if all police officers have to have camera's in their cars and various other places, then super powered beings intending on using those powers on any scale (whether it be the avengers or the thunderbolts) have to as well lest they go out of control and do shit that will cause terrible tragedies, or even catastrophic events. Steve lost the argument, even though I think it's ridiculous in the first place and wouldn't agree with tony's side for various reasons, Team Cap were contradicting themselves in the last fight. Anyway that's all, I just thought that was more interesting then what they did with the actual movie.

I hope it is good, but I love the relationship between Spidey and the symbiote is just too perfect for me. I’m not opposed to a Venom spinoff, but I really want the black suite Spider-Man done right. Great video as usual, Captain! Been a fan of Venom (and especially his dark humor) since the late 90s, so I'm optimistic yet nervous about the upcoming film. What you said provides good perspective, a calmer mindset that feels appropriate for a character crowded by such a large fan base. My personal favorite Venom comic story was the Spectacular Spider-man arc "The Hunger" from the early 2000s, not to be confused with the older, Lethal Protector related story of the same name. To summarize it's biggest impact, it's the story that introduced Eddie's adrenal cancer, and the fact that the symbiote had largely used Eddie up as much as it wanted, desiring to move on. This provided, I think, a much needed dimension of sympathy for Brock, alongside creating (or reestablishing?) the idea that the symbiote still wants Peter above all else, meaning that a portion of why Eddie had it out for Peter was actually for the sake of his own survival. "If I get rid of Parker, then the suit wont leave me, and I won't die from the cancer". The art style is a little jarring to some, a little warped, which looks odd often for Peter, May, etc. but looks amazing for the symbiote. The characterization of Eddie and the suit is great, especially in portraying how tortured and addicted Brock is, how the suit manipulates him. There's a powerful moment where the suit is enveloping Eddie atop a skyscraper in the rain, before flinging him off of it, asking "What's wrong, Eddie? Are you scared?" as he screams, trapped in the tendrils, before the suit continues with *"GOOD."* Gives me chills every time! That shared hatred of Peter combined with an underlying duality defines the character for me, makes him complex. My favorites tend to be when the partnership the two entities have is stretched back and forth from strained to close-knit. Purely villainous Venom and purely speech-making anti-hero aren't the most interesting portrayals, for me. Anyway, I've rambled on long enough! Highly recommend reading that arc and the Sensational Spider-man arc "The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock" for great twisted, conflicted Venom stories! Looking forward to your next adventure, Midnight! :D

I want the Spider-verse movie to be great so far it does look great. But even if it is great, one great animated film doesn't stack up against decades of iconic animated films. I have no doubt it'll be better than the New 52 animated stuff or that shitty Batman & Harley Quinn, but it can't compare to Under the Red Hood, Flashpoint Paradox, Mask of the Phantasm, Crisis on 2 Earths, Justice League Doom, Green Lantern First Flight, Superman/Batman Apocalypse. If it's good, then that's a great thing for Marvel and fans of Spiderman, but it takes more than one good movie to destroy the competition. If that was the case, The Dark Knight would've destroyed Marvel years ago.

Justin Ruffo WB wholly trusted Nolan (since he's already proven himself to be a master in his craft) , so he had complete control on the movies. At Fox, I'd give more credit to the actual ones who gave a shit about Deadpool : Tim Miller, Ryan Reynolds and the writers. Fox was sceptic and turned down the project for 10 years, and Ryan fought for it. The crew had a chance of control , since they were given a smaller budget and so a bigger hold on the movie.

Great video! So many people are just straight downing it because it won't have Spider-Man. I'm just really happy to get Venom(done better than Spider-Man 3 and we already know looks and sounds better than Spider-Man 3) and maybe even Carnage in a live action movie! I grew up on a lot of the 90s animated series and Venom was awesome then. I'm excited to see Venom get his own movie. It expands on the hundreds of Marvel characters out there too that have such awesome storylines and dynamics that never get a chance in a movie.

Basically the story could start of with spidey defeating the maddened Eddie Brock who comes back to his senses and realizes the damage he has caused. This causes him to go into recluse, until a series of strange murders happen and may be some marks or substance being found. Eddie realizes that, what is happening is action of another symbiote. Which he manages to track down and ends up using his venom powers which he so far has held back to defeat Cassidy.

In my ideal universe, Sony and Marvel can work together. Peter doesn't get ashed up in Infinity Wars, in Avengers 4 he comes back to earth with a black symbiote since he's in space, have a Spiderman sequel with the black suit, setting up Eddie Brock, and then have the Venom spinoff, opening with Spiderman taking the black suit off. But alas, this is not the ideal universe. Hope Venom is good though.

I've been having these conflicting feelings about Venom for SOOOOO long. First it was in the MCU, and then it wasn't. It makes sense that Spider-Man wouldn't be in it if the Venom movie is following the story of Venom: Lethal Protector which it's all but confirmed to be. Lethal Protector takes place in San Francisco so I wouldn't be surprised if at the beginning of the film Eddie moves there from New York City after a brief encounter with Spider-Man (or Peter Parker) in which they agree to leave each other alone and stay out of each other's way, just like in the Lethal Protector comic series.

can't really fault Rubin Fletcher to hard for Gangster Squad failing. originally a large chunk of the film revolved around rigging some kind of sweepstakes giveaway to get all the mob bosses into a theatrical screening so they could mow them all down at once. They had most of the shooting done, and were almost ready for post. Then Aurora happened and they had to either redo everything, or scrap the movie.

They totally nerfed both Eddie Brock and Venom. They made Eddie act like Michael Cera and Venom like a 12 year old ADHD girl. And they did all the fight scenes in the dark. And they skipped Spiderman having the symbiote first. That's more blasphemous to the comics than Tobey having his webbing come out of his wrists. It was probably one of the worst comic book movies of all time. 1986 Howard the Duck was a better movie. You could see the fight at the end in that one at least.

Hey Captain midnight, one of the things that I liked about the original spider man films is that it was set in its own universe. I think the Vemon movie should do the same, which means no reference to Spider-man.

Disney's two animated seasons of The Spectacular Spider-Man did more with venom than just about anycotger movie, tv show, or game I've ever seen. The way the show developed Eddie Brock and the symbiote individually before bringing them together was masterful, and it really made venom the emotionally charged villain he's supposed to be without resorting to the edgy anti-heroism that venom is sometimes made to mimic. Overall an excellent depiction of the character, one I'm not sure I'll ever see matched.

Now people will go into the cinema trying to see every mistake this movie could possibly have and that's bad . Your video might change people's mind . For me , im truly hyped , the cast is strong on this one . And the fact that they just pulled a Venom solo movie script means something i think .

I really liked venom’s and Eddie’s relationship with spidey and peter in spectacular spiderman. When Eddie and Peter started to fight because of the symbiote on Peter and then because it was on Eddie was just great
