The Anglo Saxons were Christinized by the time the Vikings arrived. They were taught that killing someone was a sin. They had to turn back to their Barbarian roots to finally beat them.

In the long run, the Saxons did beat the Vikings. That is why Alfred the Great is called the Great Likewise his great grandson, Aethelstan.

Anglo Saxons ( Angles, Saxon, Jutes ) came from the same land that most Viking came from. That would be Denmark. Just 400 years of separation. The migration was so large it almost left Denmark depopulated. Those left behind were called just Northmen. When both met they could understand each other verbally. Also shared the same pagan religion worshipping Oden, Thor.... before the Anglo Saxons became Christians.

Where’s the best place to learn about that migration?

@@Historys_a_Con thanks, but is there actually a way for me to get midjourney for free? or any AI of the same calibre for free???

@@Mumintrollet8921 There's no way to get Midjourney for free and I don't know if there are any free ones that are as good. Worth looking in to it though

has genetics ever been looked at as the cause why so many warrior groups ended up becoming inept failures? after a long period of war the best warriors get killed off eliminating their genes from the population. what else might account for warlike populations eventually being even unable to defend themselves? once the Viking power collapsed they were never able to reboot their ability to launch aggression worldwide. the same thing happened to the Huns and Mongols. Scandinavia was lucky that they weren't attacked by victims of Viking attacks until 1940 when the Germans crushed the Viking homelands. also often a key to success in war is having inept opponents as much as anything else. the Wehrmacht seemed amazingly powerful from the fall of 1939 till Stalingrad in 1943. they beat the Polish, Dutch, Belgian, British, Norwegian, Danish, Russian and French armies. However if France in 1940 had military officers in command of it’s army like Heinz Guderian, Erwin Rommel or von Rundstedt it’s doubtful the German offensive would have done very well at all. it wasn’t as much the Germans superiority of arms as the blunders of the Allies that carried the day.

Don’t know of any research in to this one. The British empire happened hundreds and hundreds of years after the best Viking warriors settled and assimilated in to the English population so make of that what you will.

The didn't beat the Saxons overall, you do remember what happened in 1066 at Stamford Bridge?? The end of the Viking Age that's what happened!!

not how it works man. the weak are the first to die on the field of battle. that's why descendants of warlike peoples are better fighters, taller etc
