Chrome lined or not the port hole can still rot out with corrosive ammo. When I was new to akm’s I lost a wasr due to that. More gas was admitted into the gun, the bolt tail and locking lug got beat up and the gun was violent. Since then I won’t shoot or buy any corrosive ammo. People always think they are safe with chrome but the port hole is drilled and not chrome lined through the gas block, you will lose your rifle if you don’t clean that particular spot. I’m on the fence about one of these, 556 is easier to get in my area…

I ordered the 556 jack out the first batch that come in just sold it couple weeks ago. But it was so overgassed I wouldn't shoot it until my kns piston came in. Because it literally felt like it was going beat itself to pieces. The cases were ejecting around 45 foot on average. Hopefully the newer ones they started drilling the gas port a little smaller. But 556 aks are way more snappy than 545 aks by far. My personal oppinion 545x39 rounds are perfection. Hopefully PSA will release there 545 ammo soon to help out us ak74 lovers. Nice review tho

So the elephant in the room is the 45 degree gas block with the high-velocity 5.45mm bullet... The Russian menace switched to the 90 degree gas block (on AK-74) due to bullet shear when using 5.45x39 in a 45 degree gas block. Anyone shot these beauties enough to experience this - what were your results - how did it affect barrel life/accuracy??? The world may never know...
@TexasHellcat18367 ай бұрын
So before Russia switched to the 90° gas block, they had a 45° gas block that had the gas pirt drilled at 90°. Externally, you wouldn't be able to tell a difference between that an a normal 45° block, but internally, it was perfectly fine. In fact, Tula never made an AK74 with the 90° block, only Izhmash did. I'm pretty sure WBP is doing what Tula did. My WBP Jack 5.45 runs great.
@anthonyduguay898910 ай бұрын
My one concern with the jack is the slanted gas block. Normally a 45 degree gas block is fine for 7.62. But iirc 5.45 needs the 90 degree gas block otherwise it gets real dirty real easy.

The USA civilian market will buy more 5.45 than most small countries that use the cartridge... Tela Impex is now importing it with more manufacturers tooling up to exploit the USA market's lack of domestic manufacturers. It is NOT A DEAD CARTRIDGE - it is the third most popular intermediate rifle caliber in the world. It will never die here in the USA, unless all AKs get banned and confiscated. If I can still go buy a box 6.5 Carcano, .32 S&W Long, or even 8mm Kurz - I will be buying 5.45 in about 50 years from now with no problems. Working for Ammoland.com, Recoil, and Firearms News. Had to sign a non-compete. But, I'm no longer working for Ammoland, so I can start making new content.

@@BurstReview Ahh! Was wondering why you disappeared off the face of the earth (to me at least). So how does this rifle compare to the Tantal? Got one of those and two crates of 7N6 back in 2013 (thank god I bought THAT when I did). Edit: My two biggest complaints with the Tantal are the oddball selector switch which makes changing out the trigger very difficult and the annoying muzzle end of the barrel being incompatible with the Wolverine unless you shave it down to SBR lengths.

Disappointing that this isn't a true AK74.

If the conflict in Ukraine ever ceases I think there will be a flood of 5.45mm, especially given that it will be an extremely combat proven round by then.

Does the armslist hat come with a honeypot?

Lol, It was the only clean hat I had handy

That's 5.45x39? It needs a 90 degree gas block.
@BurstReview10 ай бұрын
I mean, needs is a strong word; would benefit from, sure. But the gun won't realistically suffer from the issue for thousands and thousands of rounds. Well beyond what the average shooter would ever put through it.

There were early Tula ak-74s with 45 gas blocks.

It has the most piece of junk muzzle break ever that also weights a ton and you should immidently be taken off and throw it in the garbage and sorry a 4150 barrel with nitride finish is okay but doesn't compare to a Cold Hammer Forged Chrome lined barrel and I'm guessing this basic AK with a sub-bar barrel is what $1000.00 and don't forget about tax and shipping and FFL fee and spending another $80 to a $100 on a decend break. So $1200.00 no thanks!
@awesomeopossum463210 ай бұрын
They weigh a ton if an ak in general is too heavy for you, lol, and there’s nothing wrong with 4150, and with a lower pressure cartridge like 5.45 it’ll more than likely have a 28k+ barrel life
