I had the very first X100 and it was a beautiful camera that took fantastic photos. The colors from the images were really pleasing. I can’t imagine how amazing this latest iteration is. If there is one thing I’d love to suggest to all camera manufacturers, it’d be to start offering some cameras that only take photos and ditch the video capabilities. These cameras could come at a lower price point and be specifically aimed at photography only. This is the reason I’ll always keep my Nikon D700. It is purpose built for one thing and one thing only - taking stunning images.

it’s not gonna be much cheaper to make a photo only digital camera. At hardware level there’s not much that’s video only. You want fast storage & big buffers for both 6k video (many 21MP images compressed) or 40mp RAWs. IBIS? I love ibis for stills. Only things I can think of is microphone stuff and video out ports.
@camerabaka4 күн бұрын
@@JakeTetonLandis That may be true. Forgetting about the manufacturing processes and economics, I’m more interested in a camera without video distractions that concentrates on photography only. I know this is not viable with the manufacturers, except for Pentax, which has started making film cameras again.

@@camerabaka for sure - i feel the same way, though the cameras I use regularly are good about allowing me to re-assign the video buttons to other things. Like on Ricoh GR I use the movie button to toggle to zone focus mode, on fuji X-M5 i use the big red record button for the Q menu. the X100VI is a very stills focused camera, you need to go through the drive digital menu to get to it

@@JakeTetonLandis I’ve had both versions of the Ricoh GR - brilliant take anywhere anytime powerhouses. They are good examples of cameras that should be photo only. The video capabilities are atrocious. The X-M5 on the other hand has very capable video features. It seems like the perfect compact hybrid travel camera.

Purely for professional photography, you want the ability to take photos at a high framerate (capturing sports moments, birds and animals etc.) So you're basically engineering a camera that can shoot at 30/60/120 fps already. Making it then take video is basically a software requirement, and perhaps 1 or 2 extra buttons

My first impressions review on the camera will actually go live this week! Checked out your video for some more takes on the camera but my own. Agree with you on all the points you make. I actually tested the camera for overheating by filming a video for my channel on it. In 4K HQ there were no concerns with overheating, especially with the temperature threshold set to high! The real limitation was the smaller battery that you rightfully mentioned as a negative!

I like mine, for the same reasons as you, but I do not love it. What holds me back are the same reasons as previous generations (X100F). First, it feels laggy (time to boot, wake from sleep, processing if clarity is tweaked). It also feels a bit "hollow" and too loose, not that well put together, and that is most felt on some of the controls (shutter release, focus ring, buttons, joystick). The EVF is not brilliant either. Finally, I am a bit fed up with the make pretend Leica M3 design cues, even if they are less blunt than in past iterations. On the other hand, no other camera provides the same integrated package of functionality in this small a form factor. I'd love next iteration to modernise and refine the design with sleeker lines, and tighten up the bolts, so to speak, including at OVF/EVF level. A bigger battery is also needed indeed, and if all that slightly increases size and weight, so be it. Seems what I want is not a cheap feeling fake M3 but an APS-C Q3.

Same combo as my X-S20, v4 sensor v5 processor. Seems to be a good combination, and I think prefer the output to my X-E4 that I part ex'd for the X-S20. Interesting that my X-M1 was also a 'mis matched' sensor and processor and I love that camera. If it had the bigger battery it'd be the size of the X-S20.

The leather sleeves they sell on Ebay (mine was like $20) are great on this camera. You dont have to remove it to change the battery or the card, and makes handling feel better not only bc it adds protection esp along the bottom, but it also make the grip come out a little more.

Love my X100VI Weather sealing should be as standard though I have not used it as a video camera for more than a few clips but no issues I did recently purchase the official TC and i love the combo...35mm and 50mm eqv F/2 lenses (just did a portrait shoot tonight in studio using just the x100 VI) I have protection filters for both the fixed lens and the TC and a CPL filter for the fixed lens I'm really tempted to sell all my other gear because i really don't need it (although i wont) I'm sure at some point i'll need to shoot with a longer lens than 50mm eqv. and i prefer using interchangeable lens cameras for video work

you can hit the buy it now button ... now but unless you live in a place that has plenty of stock of this camera... you might have to wait a few months lol. I ordered mine May 2024 and only just received it Jan 2025.

Nice video, thanks. Can you add some comments about the menu system? Some chatter about it’s being too complicated, certainly vs the Leica Q3 (of course, a radically different price point.)

If the hype is real, is it really hype? And realize the X100VI is positioned to steal from Leica. That's part of the markup.

i hv been using x100vi for few months, 5 cons for me is af, af, af, af, and battery. even the latest firmware update didnt help much. so i switch to mf and use it like a leica m and everythings fine people thinks its expensive. but just thjnk to yourself, you are buying a film camera without needing to buy film and develop. $20 per roll of film is crazy nowadays anyways. So just use x100vi and take 700 photo then you are in pure profit :D

@@joshelias8472preordered mine from B&H like a year and a half ago. Got an email about 3 weeks ago that my package had shipped but I thought it was a necklace since that was the only thing I’d ordered recently. Was very confused when I grabbed the box from our mailroom and saw a lithium battery sticker. It had been so long I had completely forgotten about it lmao, but can’t lie when I opened the box and saw it was my Fuji I was totally over the moon.
