Hi everyone, I'm excited to announce that I now have posters available for the reaction schemes in this video: Aliphatic reactions: rdbl.co/47y5oAk Benzene reactions: rdbl.co/41W1qQM Phenol reactions: rdbl.co/3NZc8QE Perfect for learning organic chemistry (and supporting the channel at the same time!) 👨🔬

Those are some great insights - very helpful. I chuckled at the Oxidation & Reduction part when you said 'gain an oxygen' because I learned the mnemonic the other way around from the electron or hydrogen point of view - Oxidation is Loss, Reduction is Gain - OIL RIG

Glad it was helpful! Haha, there are far too many definitions of 'oxidation' and 'reduction'...

@@Chemistorian I'm curious if the reaction diagram is available anywhere?

Not yet, but I'm working on it! I'll let you know when it's available. EDIT: I finally have a poster of the reactions if you're still interested: rdbl.co/47y5oAk

Technically, both is correct. OIL RIG theory is based on to electrons. Lose of e- (Oxi) and Gain of e- is (Reduction) (Reduction but a negative charge gained) But in this I think it’s: Oxidation is gain of “O”

Hi, I know it's been a while, but I finally have a poster of the reactions if you're still interested: rdbl.co/47y5oAk

What also amazes me is that this stuff is required for pre-university study in the UK. In the US, it's not taught until 2nd year of university, so 99% of the world never takes it.

I just wish I had that chart when starting out. As the reaction types kept building up, my flash card deck kept getting longer and longer, until I literally couldn't get through it in a single sitting. Ideally I would have fully understood all of the reaction mechanisms, learned the history behind them, and had a better understanding of quantum mechanics. Obviously lacking time for all of that, I had to resort to memorization. I still got a B, but I'm coming back to shore up my knowledge. I have a physics degree, and though we're still dealing with EM forces in chemistry, it's almost impossible to work things out from first principles like it is in physics. And then adding stereochemistry to the mix, it's a major leap in complexity when first studying organic chemistry. And this is with putting in _tons_ of study time.

I rarely comment, but this video is incredible. It allowed me to understand the connection between nitrogen containing reactions and oxygen containing reactions in a way I’ve never seen. Kudos to you!
