It’s probably a good thing that New Orleans track never came to fruition

the Brant Pittsburgh indoor track was suppossed to be a mile long originally, barely meeting the much older definition of a 'superspeedway' with the banking. The project was suprisingly far along, but 1 of the 2 brothers who owned/ran the company passed. I remembered this absurd project just the other day and looked more into it, turns out the company was based less than a mile away from my house. Last thing I expected is a plan like this to be coming out of the state of West Virginia lol

I remember the proposed Pittsburgh track. At the time I had not really got into the sport and wasn't sure the region would support a race track.

During the broadcast for one of the last races at Riverside (1986? '87? It should still be here on YT), there was a prerecorded segment centered around a proposed D-shaped oval to be built in Perris, CA, which is a few miles south on Interstate 215. There was a nice rendering shown and lots of optimism about shifting RIR's Cup date to it but, obviously, the project never came to be.

As a Jeff Gordon fan, learning that he designed a racetrack only to have it be cancelled is very disappointing

Back during the 2000’s NASCAR boom my hometown wanted to build a Track , everyone was down but red tape got in the way and the state didn’t want to fix or expand 460 to meet the traffic.

what kills me is they ALREADY have a nascar track near seattle- evergreen speedway hosts nascar sanctioned events every year, mostly modifieds. cup cars running on road courses, short tracks and dirt recently, i dont see why they couldnt run cup cars on the 5/8 out there.
@PROspectorN24Күн бұрын
Yeah, I know what you’re talking about. Either way, thanks for proving my point.
@BLyonsDesignКүн бұрын
Evergreen would need to add a lot of seats and infrastructure to host a Cup level event. That's a lot of money that I doubt they're willing to put into an unproven market with a track they don't even own.
@mrs.everyshot955814 сағат бұрын
@@BLyonsDesign unfortunately, youre probably right. even if seats weren't an issue, the roads around the speedway really arent designed for that much traffic. its a struggle just for the fair and the 4th of july races. tracks doing very well for a large fairgrounds track. probably not doing well as far as nascar tracks go. still, a boy can dream, right?

There was a plan to build a Darlington-like track near Charleston in the 1960s, but they only built the infield short track [Ona]. There's an nr2003 track called Nightstalker that is nearly identical in length, shape, and banking

Not too many people know about the proposed “New Orleans” track. In its initial inception it would’ve been located about an hour north of the city on much higher grounds. Local municipalities shut the idea down because of potential noise. My old boss was a realtor on the deal and actually was in meetings and got to ride in a helicopter over the property with NASCAR’s top brass at the time.

There was actually supposed to be an indoor track in Connecticut in the late 90s. Unsure if that exhaust technology existed then. It was supposed to be built along the coastline somewhere, I think more towards Rhode Island.
