It would be awesome to go back to no stage breaks. That would change the whole game then it would put it back in the hands of the drivers. But then the people without talent ( Bubba Wallace) would never make it.

Your idea isn't a bad one, but I do have a different idea: - So the one idea I like that you suggested is replacing Stage Racing with average running position bonus points. I also agree with bringing back leading laps and the most laps. - Adding to that, I would also include bonus points for the pole winner on qualifying day, bonus points for the fastest lap of the race, and bonus points for the fastest 4-tire pit stop of the race. - So how the bonus points would be scored would be as follows: Average running position, (1st-10 pts., 2nd-9 pts. and so on until 10th-1 pt.) 5 points for leading a lap, 5 points for leading the most laps, 5 points for the pole sitter, 5 points for the fastest lap of the race, and 5 points for the fastest 4-tire pit stop of the race - I would also use the 2007-2010 Latford scoring system, which is basically the Latford Winston Cup format, but with 185 points going to the winner before bonus points. - I would keep the 16-man field, but like you, get rid of the "Win and you're in" rule for not just getting into the Playoffs, but each of the rounds, as well. And it would just be the top-16 in points instead of the Win and you're in rule. This way, you can also eliminate the need for waivers. - My structure would be 1-3-3-3 in terms of how the rounds work. • The opening 1-race round would be the Wildcard Race, and that would appropriately be held at Talladega. This will give the Wildcard drivers (the 13th-16th place drivers) a one-race shot to advance into the actual meat of the Playoffs. • Then each round would have a unique opening race, a short track or 1-mile track race, and an Intermediate Track race. • The second round can be Watkins Glen, Bristol Night Race, and Kansas. • Round 3 would be the Charlotte Roval, Martinsville, and Las Vegas. • Then the final 4 round would be a dirt track race, Phoenix, and I'm with you on bringing the finale back to Homestead. - I'm also keeping Playoff Points, allowing them to carry over round to round, and build upon winning races. I feel by doing this way, you're putting actual meritocracy into the Playoffs while still keeping the entertainment of the Playoffs. I'm ultimately with you, though. Just get rid of the Playoffs entirely.

If I was to fix it I'll probably do it one out of two ways. Determine how many points you are you will be in the playoffs or you can still keep the wind in your end system for the current playoffs but just make the playoffs points related

Easiest way to "fix" this debacle would be to throw it in the trash. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old system. Dump stage racing, dump the charter system and dump the next gen car. Let the teams build their own cars to NASCAR safety specs.

That's a decent format you have in mind. I would just simplify it a little. 12 is also a good number but I would have lucky number 13 and that being the driver who hasn't made it in that has won the most races. In the playoffs I would reset those 13 drivers points by 5 points difference. For instance 13th has 5 ponts, 12th has 10. This way the drivers that did amazing in the regular season get a little back when points are reset. BTW i hate the playoffs and I wish they would go back to the season long champ like it was pre 2004 but nascar will never do that. THey just need a better system in crowning a champion if they are choosing to stick with the plaoffs. How fair is it in the format we have now with 4 drivers go into the last race and whoever finishes best wins the championship? No matter what the track is there will always be a driver or car that would do better at certain tracks then others. It's not right to penalize drivers and teams that just arent good at certain tracks.

First, I would reduce the playoff field back to 10 drivers. The playoffs are where the best drivers of the season fight for a championship. I would also increase the field to 40 full time entries. Which means about a quarter of the field will be eligible for the playoffs. Second, get rid of the win and you’re in system. It’s just too gimmicky. Racing is way too unpredictable and often times a driver who has no business fighting for a championship gets in. Third, remove stage yellows, I would keep stage points as I feel that rewards drivers for running up front. I would rename them to checkpoints. Fourth, add a bigger spread of points between positions. Instead of 1 point between positions here is how I would do it. Starting from 100 from 1-10 there wiI be a 5 point spread. There will also be a 10 point spread between 5th and 6th to better reward top 5 finishes. After that from 11th on back the spread is 2 points with any finish outside of the top 35 getting only one point. Which gets to my 5th thing and that is giving the winner bonus points. The winner will get 25 bonus points. Speaking of bonus points I would bring that back. You get 10 bonus points for: The fastest lap, the fastest full service pit stop, the highest average running position, winning the pole, and for leading the most laps. I will also hand out 5 bonus points for leading a lap and for every 100 laps a driver leads an extra 5 points will be tacked on. This is to reward drivers who dominate a race. I will keep playoff points but this how I would do it. Playoff points will be handed out to the top 3 finishers of a race. At each checkpoint 1st gets 5, 2nd gets 3 and 3rd gets one. And for the finish the winner gets 15 playoff points, 2nd gets 10, and 3rd gets 5. At the end of the regular season each driver in the top 10 will get 2000 points as usual, but this is where I change things. The points that the drivers have accumulated over the regular season will be converted into playoff points. 1 playoff point equals 25 regular points. With the playoffs points that the drivers have accumulated being tacked on at the end. The regular season champion will also get an additional 5 playoff points. After all of that we will go from there. There will be no rounds just a 12 race points shootout. Who ever has the most points at the end is the champion. There will still be eliminations. A driver can be eliminated if they fall out of the championship equation. Wins and points will be handed out the same way as the regular season. So that is my absolutely cracked and awful version of the playoffs. Hope you enjoyed this presentation. Please point any errors if you can.

The ultimate way to fix it is get rid of it go back to the original chase for the cup format. The playoffs were exposed in 2020 and every year since other than 2021 it has gotten worse. The playoffs have made me realize the original chase format wasn’t bad at all. Just give it a few tweaks and for goodness sakes get rid of win and your in! It ultimately cost Harvick the 2020 title logano and Elliott winning would have meant nothing if not for win and your in. I would rather go back to a full season point format as I’m an old school fan but I’m realistic we aren’t ever going back to that so no sense in arguing for it

Since I don't think NASCAR will get rid of stages or the playoffs here's what I'd do: - 16 drivers make a 10 race playoff. After 5 races, you cut the field to 8. - 8 drivers then have a 5 race push for the title. Simple to understand, and the final month focuses on who deserves it: the BEST drivers. All the talk during the playoffs is "Who's below the cut line? Who's about to get eliminated?"...not on the actual peak performers! It's highly unlikely a driver will clinch the title before Phoenix, and this format allows for MORE than 4 drivers to have a title shot at the end. Remember 1992, with 6 drivers title eligible at the final race? People still talk about that race, and this could happen here in a reasonably organic way. If someone dominates and racks up enough playoff points to clinch before Phoenix? They earned it and would almost certainly be the deserving champ. Just...anything but the contrived "winner takes all" Championship 4 garbage. PLEASE.
@Vibrantatious
@Vibrantatious Күн бұрын
They need to get rid of the championship 4, it can basically make everybody’s season come down to one race, and it could be possible your car just blows up or a caution at the end of the race takes away your victory. I think the best way to counter this is to just not have a points reset into the playoffs, and weigh points to the point where the if the 16th in points scored every point possible and 1st scored the minimum points, the 16th place car will beat them by about 40 points or so. I know this might be a bit of a glorified chase, but I think that it makes it possible to maintain a bigger points lead if you are dominant throughout the regular season. I think they should also give 50 points to whoever has the most wins and 50 points to whoever has the highest average finish. If you miss multiple races, those finishes will count as last on the average finish scoring, with one race that can be excused. I think with a couple tweaks this could be a pretty good system.

Heres how you keep the playoffs. Race until playoffs Keep the playoff points Keep the elimination rounds DO NOT RESET POINTS AFTER A ROUND Race to the end of the season with points still being accumulated. Championship race is still just 4 drivers, but without the points reset. It makes it less mickey mouse to decide a champion as in this format it'd be the best playoff driver in the playoffs. Also, bring back the rule where a "win and you're in" only counts if you're top 30 in points. (I'd ideally make this Top 25)

The thing about the Chase/Playoffs is it’s a fix to a thing that wasn’t a really a problem, that being ratings plateauing out as the season went on. I really wonder if NASCAR could’ve foreseen the downturn they’d take by introducing the Chase if they’d have just stuck with the traditional format and took the slight drop in ratings as the season ended.

I don't think anyone should make the playoffs unless they have a minimum of 5 top 10 finishes. There is no reason for a guy who runs 25th to 30th every week and backs into a fluke win being in the playoffs. It was great to see Burton win his first race, but realistically how far will he go in the playoffs? The answer, one round.

A playoff idea. I middle ground maybe, I suggest keep everything the same, win and in, stage racing (without breaks but still points), playoff Points, 16 drivers, ect. Reset the same as now at the start. Round of 16: Wild card/Elimination round. 3 races, like we currently have the bottom 4 get eliminated. Down to 12 drivers, reset with playoff Points then it's a 7 race mini season based on points & consistency thru the variety of tracks.. It still has the excitement nascar and tv are looking for with win and eliminations but also rewards consistency for the best teams. Plus all the hard work and wins throughout the season help in the final 7 race championship stretch. Just and idea tho
