It's actually pretty easy to be recognized as a refugee if you manage to cross the DMZ. The hard part is avoiding bullets until you reach the border itself, but once you cross the line, you can get medical attention for the gunshots.

@MontaroL You have my condolences then. Eastern European countries have a much tougher time than their EU counterparts. Unfortunately we have a political party here in the United States that treats the countries you mentioned as Russian puppets. That being said, we receive hundreds of thousands of immigrants from developing countries every year, mostly from Mexico, central America, and south america. Does hostility towards immigrants in this country exist? Absolutely, but even among Trump's supporters the anger is primarily direxted towards those who come here and break the rules, not the ones who come legally and follow our laws.

My father's from Eritrea. If you're an expat like him, shortly after Eritrea became a sovereign nation in 1993, my father bought a special ID that allows him to travel to Eritrea without a visa. The process to obtain a visa takes a while (about 10-12 weeks before approval). Flights can be difficult to obtain and vary wildly in price (as low as $1200 to as much as $2500). As long as I'm with my dad, we can go anywhere in the country we wanna go including the village he grew up in.

Loving the sponsor message that some countries restrict Internet access freely and the vpn can help with access no matter where you are. Issue is in countries such as North Korea perhaps not a great idea. It isn't hard to identify traffic bound for a VPN server even if the data content and next hop are secure and in those secretive countries any attempt to hide your data such as a VPN can be deemed an attempt at espionage which Will leave you in a world of fun with the North Korean government (for example) and likely end with you in a hard labour camp.

Eritrean here: I have visited Eritrea for several Times and Yemen, since they are neigbours, for once for 10 days. ITS Not that Hard to get to both countries. We had gone on a Royal Caribbean cruise and it was pretty easy, I mean we all had to get passports but it wasn’t hard to get in or out. But about a week later I had a pool party at my friends neighborhood pool, and it was harder to get into her neighborhood than Cuba.
