JPM coming to nascar was also due to Ron Dennis saying that he’ll sign him and Kimi Raikkonen. Then Dennis signing Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to the team and JPM left for NASCAR.

The Early 2000's was the "Next Jeff Gordon" Era Cup owners were looking for the next Jeff Gordon, they wanted someone who could get into a Cup car and be competitive, just like Jeff Gordon did. Except, they forget his Rookie season where he crashed..a LOT. They also overlook that he ran 3 seasons of Busch series with Ford Factory support. So you had all these Development Teams whose job was to foot the bill while these kids tore up equipment trying to learn to run in NASCAR. Some of them were given bad breaks, but some of them were brought in at the totally wrong time. It's, basically, a generation of drivers who were screwed over by the Cup teams.

Someone not mentioned much is Danny O'Quinn. He ran full-time for Roush in 2006 in the Xfinity (then Busch) Series. He was pulled from 2 races to allow David Ragan seat time to prepare to replace Mark Martin in Cup. Despite winning Rookie of the Year in 2006, he did not get to come back to Roush full-time in 2007 because sponsorship could not be found. That year Roush was mainly running his Cup drivers either full or part-time in the Xfinity Series probably because sponsors wanted that just to add to the issue of Buschwhacking getting out of control in the series during this time. O'Quinn eventually disappeared from NASCAR.

I would not say they all were a bust. They all had circumstances beyond their control with impatient owners by not giving the young talent seat time like they do now or we would have seen Logano, Elliott, Larson, Blaney, Dillion, Suarez, Bell, etc being added to the list, the sponsors who wanted cup drivers, etc. Open wheel does not mean F1 or Indy cars, but USAC drivers. Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, Kasey Kanhe, Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney World of Outlaws), Kenny Irwin JR, etc drove midgets, Silver Crown and Sprint cars.

@JakeSimRacing
@JakeSimRacing Жыл бұрын
It did work with Kurt, and he trusted Mark’s opinion of Kenseth to bring him in. He even had a 16 year old Kyle Busch signed so Jack had seen young talent work for him and assumed it would keep going. Unfortunately not everyone will be as talented as those guys.

So many people got shafted because of the impatience of owners and sponsor woes. So many people that could have developed into being someone, but just needed a few seasona to get going, got the boot after only one, or sometimes less than one season. William Byron and Bowman got multiple years to develop and season, but Danny O'Quinn, Todd Kluever, Erik Darnell, and so many others didn't. So sad.

That was the thing that made him fun to watch and if he got pissed off enough, he was subject to take it out on the Jet air dryers during caution and burn down the Speedway. I feel like nowadays, its become hard to gauge talent in trucks and xfinity because of the lack of cup drivers in those serieses. Like i thought cole Custer was at the level of bell and reddick, but then he struggled and had to go back to xfinity. I thought harrison burton was close to briscoe and cindric but now hes going back to xfinity (and cindric is always off the pace of logano and blaney). Maybe the best solution was to prevent the cup guys from scoring points but dont limit their starts. If their starts are limited too much then it isnt worth it to run a car for the cup driver. For example, a young erik jones can drive a dozen races at standalone tracks in a gibbs car while kyle busch drives that car in all the companion races and they compete for the owners title. This still allows a full-time chase elliott/chris buescher to chase the drivers title which gets more press anyways, but it makes a measuring stick for the young drivers. If kyle isnt allowed to run more than five races, then gibbs cant sell the sponsorship and that car wont be full time, and they have to accept a ride buyer for their full time seat. A sponsor wont pay for the full season when their easily marketable experienced winner will only race 5 instead of 24 races.

@truckercowboyed2638 Yeah my mistake he did ran 1 full Busch season back in 1987 but he ended up 8th in points for the Busch but he only ran 1 Cup race that year. He never ran a full Truck Series season though 2006 was the closest in that series. Never won any NASCAR championships but he is a multiple IROC champion (5 time overall) and won 1 ASA championship. Although I still say that if he ran a full season in either his Roush or Hendrick seasons in either the Busch or Truck Series he probably would had at least 1 championship there. Even after he gave up full time Cup racing. (Though maybe not after he left Hendrick.)
