Well I did play with my friends a few times but I made it most of the way to the end game I was carried through the hardest fight that let me solo her was known for beating easily and then I had help beating Eldin beast and I learned the mechanics I just sucked facing certain bosses

During my level 8 +0 invasions, the Most common spot is the Church of Elleh where 70% of the invasions have a Host with a friend Drop trading endgame Gear/Millions of runes for them. Be sure to pick it up by HOLDING BLOCK and spamming the pickup button to Snag all of it at a very fast pace

Dark Souls 2 Invasion, invaded a gank of three, all having dark fog, poison or toxic mist, however, they have low casting speed and saw me use Poison Moss. Needless to say, attack anyone who is casting it, repeat for 12 times, host disconnects when his friends are gone. I might have it recorded

I remember being an overleveled phantom just messing around for shits and giggles at the beggining of the game with my friend. He had been struggling with Margit so we gave it a shot and i drained half his health in 3 hits without realizing. I asked him if he'd rather do it alone and he said "Yeah, this is no fun, i'll just learn the hard way." We both jumped off the cliff and the next day he beat him alone.

Yeah, had a friend who was the over leveled phantom. We handled everybody's as new characters rather well. But it was the moon god (forgot her name. She's the mother to Ranna) and he asked if he could use the over leveled phantom. I said he could if he wanted to. He later did and we one with some difficulty.

Riiiight!!! On my first play through, I got the Lionel Armor and threw it on. I immediately knew there was something wrong with my movement. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong later. But once I saw my mobility had diminished, I immediately took that bitch off. Some things are just common since. I don't understand why people want to be carried. IMO, that ruins the experience of a great game. You might as well just watch someone play the game on KZbin if you're going to just sit on your ass the whole time.

Tbf though the game is unclear on this. On the one hand intelligence has to be leveled in full, but when two-handing it's ok to have 2/3 of the strength. The game is confusing in this regard and there are no in-game explanations for why that works or that it even works at all. The attribute system would certainly benefit from better guidance. And don't get me started on the very misleading scaling system.

Elden Ring is by far the least confusing game in the series. There's literally a help tool built into the game that explains everything. And honestly? If people skip over the message that tells them they're too underleveled to wield a weapon, that's their own dumbass fault. Besides, wiki's exist. There's literally no excuse to be so clueless at the game you can't even figure out how stat requirements work.

Also, some weapons work while others don't. After my level 200+ experiment, I use only weapons which are a fair match to other players, although I feel, it should be controlled by the game.

In defense of the Kaidan cosplayer, not knowing what is and isn't parryabble is very much a newbie thing. It's quite likely that player has never seen an AoW get parried before and because Jester whiffed the parry once, the thought process was either A) "guess you can't parry that" or B) "surely you'll whiff again".

Yea the video was massively reaching with that one, I thought the video was going to praise him for going for the AOW again because theyd realised that the AOW cant be parried or something. My first playthrough of the game was very much completely blind. I had a difficult time surviving any more than two hits until I started to level vigor. That is when I learned that beefy health beats brittle power any day

@Ghorda9 well yeah, but early weapons don't require much at all in terms of stat requirements. As long as you start with samurai for dex or vagabond for strength, you should be able to use any early weapon with just a few levels, and then dump all the rest into vigor. This goes even more so for int and faith builds.

Remember take everything you learned in PVE combat and throw it out the window when it comes to PVP you will experience this thing called latency where you think you hit the bad red man but he rolls out of the way 3 seconds when you clearly hit him on your screen.

I have played Elden Ring for 300 hours and have tried PvP a handful of times. I still really have no idea what's going on most of the time in PvP, especially in invasions. For example, I've noticed something very common: I hit my opponent, and the game registers the hit (audio cue, mild staggering animation etc.), but he takes no damage. Usually only the next hit will actually cause damage. Is this something intended? A bug? Latency? My imagination? ???

That's the way to do it! I wanna start a new character and do "checkpoints" with my friend to make sure they're keeping with the expected level of each zone - by which I mean they can summon me as a red and test all their gear and armor on me and my build which should be keeping step with their own. It's a great way to learn parrying and how to counter other invaders (and their latency), since not a lot of reds are gonna slow down enough to let noobs learn that kinda stuff.

Ive seen this when helping people with pve as well Guy had a LFG looking for help for throne Godfrey, so i was like bet, sure and went to give him a hand. First thing i noticed is we had absolutely no invaders, the second thing was that he was doing absolutely no damage After inquiring a bit, turns out he was over level 300, with a level 2 uchigatana, and was trying to fight real godfrey 😅 His max level was so far from his weapon level, that this mans was literally not eligible for invaders. So being the jolly cooperater i am, i helped him find all the smithing stone and somber stone bell bearings and ran him through each of the bearings caves, while showing him where to get loose smithing stones along the way. In hopes that he wouldnt get bodied in the first couple seconds of crossing the fog gate like on our previous tries Well apparently his friend who was in the party, yenno, his friend that was supposed to teach him the game, -who mustve decided to just drop his buddy runes and let him sort the rest himself- seemed to get annoyed that someone actually helped his friend so he kicked me from the party right when i got dude all sorted and we were ready to get him past boss. That experience immediately made me understand why some of the gank squads you invade are such shitters, and how theres so many players completely confused how basic mechanics work. I feel bad for all the players that have a buddy like that to introduce them. Theyre literally being taught the game from a stupid and toxic perspective, no wonder so many are toxic and stupid. Sorry for the rant but the topic immediately made me remember this interaction. Hopefully that guy was able to get past Godfrey 😅 i still dont get why his friend wasnt just carrying him through if he wasnt teaching him either. Poor guy had to find out from an LFG that he basically bricked his whole playthrough back in limgrave 😂

You find hosts like that at high levels too, I'm talking about at like 125 - 150. Their phantoms are basically playing the game for them. As soon as their phantoms die, they have 0 clue what to do, and due to either fat-rolling, not having the stats for their weapon, or not levelling vigor, they die really fast. It is very sad.

My guess for the Bloodhound Finesse player is that, since the parry didn't land in the first attack, they may have assumed the skill isn't parry-able (like how many 2-handed attacks from "Great" class weapons cannot be parried well. So, he tried it again and found out he was very wrong. To be fair, that ash of war is just as easily countered with a forward roll, leading into a lovely backstab opportunity too. I've seen plenty of invasion clips with people using that skill and getting backstabbed, only for them to do it again and get backstabbed a second time. Some people (even if they're being babied) just do not learn. They see a cool move and think they can spam it to win, even if they know it won't work. The funny thing is that with a little training, Curved Greatswords have a lovely little two-hit combo if you can time a partially-charged R2 after the initial hit (I believe an R1).

bloodhounds step is terrible in pvp if you want to actually use it in pvp still 1. don't do the second part of it and 2. you are probably only going to land a hit if you trade with hit cause you get hyperarmor

One thing I think is so crazy is that co-op can be such a fun way to experience the game but it needs to be done in the right way. I just finished my first playthrough with my partner and one of the things we both agreed on when we started playing is that they weren't allowed to give any input on places to go or stuff to use. It resulted in some really funny mistakes, and some honestly really badass moments. At one point I managed to parry a sorcery and they said "I didn't even know you could do that" and it was a wonderful feeling (also something that couldn't have happened in singleplayer). Also, it's fun when we both summon our little dudes and completely gank some of the less relevant bosses. I know this might leave some purists miffed, but I loved this playthrough more than any other souls series game because I was able to do it co-op and have those really unique experiences. I don't regret it at all!!

That actually reminds me of a story I was told a few weeks ago. I play on Xbox and like to help and teach about nearly everything (especially how to deal with malenia better and help various boss fights) and I tend to see a lot, if not dozens of people asking for rune drops to get to max level as soon as some people pick up the game for the first time, which is something I truly despise but that’s for another story. This dude I played with that like to do the same thing I do told me this : he once helped a dude that was on his first journey and struggling with Rennala (somehow didn’t use the wolves summon that stub locks her, but I guess he maybe didn’t know the mechanic exists). Once they killed the boss together, the dude asked him « wow you are so strong, are you max level too ? » Too ?! This dude was freaking max level at his first journey whilst struggling with some of the first bosses… and had probably no idea of how bad his situation was. After this, my friend told him he was level 200 and that optimizing is more important that raw stats, to which the other dude answered : « well maybe you should get good » and promptly left … I like this story because it shows how much one’s experience and view of what being good is, how much the game can be utterly ruined, skewered and butchered just because some people want to take shortcuts without actually using their brain on a game that is notorious for testing players and being hard on purpose. I don’t understand the logic of these people.

counterpoint to the host being parried: He may not have thought that the ash of war could have been parried since the first time you tried to parry him, it failed. The host must've thought that ability cannot be parried because of it rather than that the parry failed to work. New players don't exactly have PvP knowledge even if they encounter a few invaders especially since 95% of the invaders are just as incompetent as the host, to the point where even if the ability could be parried the host would still have a fair reason to attempt the ash of war expecting you to fail the parry and take free damage.

@@baguetto563 Partial parries happen when someone's weapon contacts a parrying opponent during the block frames of the parry rather than the parry frames. The block frames are more plentiful than parry frames, of course. This causes it to count as blocking rather than parrying. It's bad because blocking something kills your stamina and doesn't always negate all damage.

I remember getting the grafted blade greatsword in my first playthrough early on and seeing it took 40 strength, tossed it into my inventory and never touched it again lmao. For how early you get it, the stat requirements never made sense for me. I’ve noticed that If you’re invading at low level, it probably means that the host is an absolute noob and most likely a casual gamer. When I first played the game, I didn’t summon once because I wanted to learn how to play the game. If you need help in areas like stormveil or an early dungeon, than that should probably be telling enough about the level of players you’ll be going against.

I myself summoned no one and used only the ash summons and tools I found. But I love getting them gratification notes from newer players for helping them. @@topcat59 don't forget that if you are two handing a weapon it will give you 1.5x times the str you already have, so in order to weild the grafted blade you need 27 str if you use it two handed.

I have multiple characters. The first playthrough on ER I had a friend (who I helped with DS 1 2 3) play through the game with me. We never strayed too far ahead of each other and usually fought every boss together. For me it was fun to experience the game together. After we beat it I created a new character to beat solo, as did he. I never used overleveled characters when helping friends and I *love* jolly co-operation. When we got invaded it was a mild nuisance but we never ganked, phantoms fought first, and never got salty. At the end of the day it is just a game and anyone who lets it dictate their personality needs to go outside and breathe some air.

Before I'd met them, a good friend of mine had given up on ER because they'd had a babysitter host ruin the game for them like this but I was able to convince them to give it another try so I rolled up a fresh NEW character and played along side with them for a while to teach them the mechanics and give them tips here and there. Fast forward a couple of weeks and my friend was able to beat Mohg completely solo with no summons or phantoms at all. I'm still hella proud of them.

I did the usual Varre quest line invasion at level 30 today and one of the hosts had the gargoyle great sword and the summon was cosplaying as Radagon with the sacred relic sword and Elden Stars. Host spamming vacuum slice and the summon spamming wave of gold and Elden stars, I've done coop with my nephew who's never played a Souls game and if he got invaded I would let him deal with it as I was way over leveled.

During my first playthrough i summoned my overleveled friend for a little bit and while she did lead me towards npc quests i would have missed, she also switched to unupgraded weapons and laughed at me as i got destroyed by random enemies. I had a good time with my friend while also learning and experiencing the game properly. Thats how it should done.

This also is the case in Eldenring but the level scaling is kinda broken, overlevelled phantoms are still way stronger than phantoms would be at the bosta level. And it was the same in Ds3

As a side note, you CAN have lateish game weapons VERY early if you know how to get them. Example i can get Giants Crusher, Antspur Rapier, Sword of Night and Flame, Star Hammer and more at Rune level 1. Ive gotten pretty good at speedrunning my way to the weapons and gear i need for a build on a new character early as possible. You can actually get everywhere other than mountiantop of the giants, Lyndell, and Farum Azula at RL 1 without glitches or killing any bosses, and with glitches you can access all of these areas at RL 1 and get weapons like RoB and BoG at RL 1. The true tell if theyre new and have been handed everything is if they try to use the weapon and dont have the stats.

I'm glad I had no help back in the Dark Souls times, I remember leveling up strength instead of endurance to stop fatrolling, yeah, i was that dumb. Now here I am with thousands of hours in the whole Dark Souls trillogy and a couple more thousands in Elden Ring patiently awaiting for the DLC... And leveling up endurance now, also, don't forget to level up ADP guys. So yeah, learn the game before saying it's trash, you can have a friend as a guide, but don't be carried by him.

This reminds me of something that happened a couple of days ago. Starting a new playthrough (So that I can practice for Shadow of the Erdtree), picked the Wretched class, go through the game getting various loot for the build I'm thinking of going for (+3 Falchion, Iron set, shortbow, etc) nothing special. Taking my time. Decided to do some jolly cooperation and get some runes and rune arcs. Haven't left Limgrave/Weeping peninsula yet and not very high level either. Got summoned for the Tree sentinel. Host somehow has a Godskin Peeler but all he really does the whole fight is stand back and toss basic fireballs, The other summon at one point casts Scarlet Aeonia (Not a super fantastic spell in my opinion but we all know that the point you get it is about as endgame as endgame can get) and casts a few other spells but then gets his spell deflected so it's just me and the host vs the sentinel. Only thing that saved him was me drawing it's aggro with bow & arrows and getting a stun on it at one point. Scarlet rot eating away at it barely made a difference. Nice to know now what was really going on, also disappointing knowing that there is a lot of it happening.

I help my brother play the game, but I started a new character to kinda go through the game with him. I teach him how the game works (or at least I try to) help him with areas or bosses he struggles with, help him get important items like the physic flask, and help him develop his build in the right direction because he hasn’t played a souls game before (I did drop him the Nagakiba which may have helped, but he wanted to be Zoro and I felt like the Nagakiba was better to drop than Rivers which I was right about because another person did drop him rivers and he likes the Nagakiba better anyway). I do not play the game for him. He struggled with Margit and I helped him, but he beat Godrick and Renala on his own because he wanted to. I joined back up for Rahdahn not because he wanted my help but because he wanted us to be warriors enjoying the festival together. We entered Altus together and fought the Tree Sentinels taking one out each. He has come very far. I’m happy because I think he gets it now. He’s beaten Morgott by himself (a boss that I always seem to have a hard time with for some reason) and is onto the Mountaintops now. He wants to fight Malenia because he’s heard about the fight from everyone, and while I am nervous for him and will help him, the fact that he wants to experience that means I have done my job. I can point him in a direction and I am confident he’ll make it now. I do think he’ll mald at the ordina Evergaol though lol.

Every time anyone's asked me to give them runes, I've helped them get the Gold Scarab and shown them the best grinding spots per game progression. I'm happy to show people that the game's not as hard as they think it is, when armed with the right knowledge, but I still encourage them to put in the work and learn to play the game themselves. It's up to them whether they continue to do so or not.

I brought a friend into the worlds of Elden ring and ds3 (he doesn’t want to try the older games is what it is) and I’ve been with him every step of the way. I help him fight Invaders and bosses alike and do my best to tell him what certain weapons and spells do that invaders have, how to counter them, and what I think best suits his playstyle…but I make it a point every fight, especially on harder bosses, to make sure he has to genuinely learn the fight and I never deal the killing blows. It took him 30 tries with my help to beat malenia and 17 for midir…he just beat ds3 by himself for the first time yesterday and beat Elden ring solo last week. So proud of him

Have had overleveled phantom situations. I play with my two brothers, and more recently my son got into the game. At first, we were all on our ng++ characters, so helping my son was a babysitter situation lol. I didnt drop anything for him, except i let him loan a weapon to get a feel for different types (he was kind of a use one and never switch mindset at first), then made him give it back and go get his own. Hus uncle did drop him some boluses though lol. Eventually one of my brothers and i made new characters to keep pace, though the other held off until the dlc announcement. So hes been the over leveled phantom this play through, not that we is always in the co op mix (the other bro and i work nights so tend to line up more often). One simple thing to help with challenge is we do give host the right of first challenge if they want to rush down a boss or duel an invader. Tho early on when invasions scared my kid, i did play papa bear and delete a couple who were trying to mess with him >.> he has grown nicely tho, and prefers to challenge them when hes hosting.

Got a funny story about this topic. My friend and I actually went through our first playthroughs together. Every time we discovered something we would help each other find it and made our way through bit by bit all the way to Elden Beast. I don't get why people want to be carried when it's more fun to experience something with a buddy who is as new as you. And keep in mind I was overleveled as all hell, this happened about a week or 2 after the launch I was farming runes by using the Lenne's Rise method since I was struggling with a boss for a few days (I honestly can't remember which one it was) but I had reached a wall in the grind since I was now at the point where a single lvl took way to much time to grind at that spot (I think I was abound lvl 30-40) so I check the community posts to see if anyone else was having the same issue and I saw the most common method at the time was to just ask for runes and that's what I did. I got a reply and my phantom dropped some for me, now keep in mind, I was ONLY asking for enough runes for a couple of levels, not 99 Lord's runes. It turns out there was a duplication glitch that let people do this that I had no idea about. So I obviously used the runes and played through the rest of the run at about lvl 200ish. Now did this ruin my experience? Well it certainly made it easier there's no denying that, but I still got my ass handed to me by both bosses and invaders alike because I suck at Souls games and I'm not afraid to admit that. Point of this story being that everyone should play how they choose to but don't complain and start crying for someone to carry you through the game. I'm lvl 330 currently and I am fully prepared to get my ass handed to me on a silver platter all over again when the DLC drops. But that's all part of the learning experience and what makes these games fun. And yes invasions are a part of that too, I may not invade or even like pvp for that matter but I fully welcome invaders whenever I'm trying to help someone because I'm able to teach my hosts how to 1v1 an Invader without resorting to ganking. Sorry for my rambling I hope whoever reads this has a great day and let the guidance of grace light thy way tarnished.

I was one for a time. Friend joined asked me what weapons id like, asked for a katana, was given enough runes to get every stat to 30+. Got through the game up to the capital and then that was it. I played a solo for awhile, making many new saves aiming to use many different weapons mainly katanas though. The one time i beat the game i was a spellsword using moonveil and various staves, i was around level 120 where as my carried was over 180. I believe as well the time played for both saves i had spent more in my carried one. Took down malenia before elden beast. I also used 4 ashes throughout the run. The wolves, jellyfish, the spear knight (engval?) and blacknife assassin tiche? Who carried me through the later half of both malenia and elden beast. I have tried fighting margit and few other early bosses without ashes and while i believe i could beat them in time. Theres no way i could for endgame so i will just stick with tiche when possible. The further i got into the game the harder it got for me to use moonveil and i started just using its ash of war and used spells like rannis moon and rock sling? Also apologies if i got any names wrong, havnt played in awhile and such.

I’ve played elden ring through countless times with my friends I’ve introduced to the game and I always take a back seat but still try to be the knowledgeable guide when needed it’s always so fun or hilarious when you hear their reaction to boss fights or unique things found well exploring well learning the games fundamentals it’s an overall experience for everyone! Plus you feel like a proud mom or dad as you helpless tarnished friend slowly learns and becomes an Elden lord ☺️

my friends and I actually did this as a challenge. Someone would pick the wretch class and for the whole run, had no armor or weapons on, was not allowed to attack or deal damage in any way, nor were they allowed to use any items. Then, they would summon 2 other players to help them fight off enemies. When they would level up, they were only allowed to level strength, dex, faith, and int (Leveling up's only purpose was to determine what level we the summons were allowed to be, and the only equipment we were allowed to use were the armors and weapons from the dungeons we manage to complete). The idea of the challenge was to beat the game while protecting the host, since if the host died, the summons would get kicked (made especially hard when we had invaders). We called it the "Get down Mr. President" challenge.

I had a friend who tried getting me to carry him through literally everything without just asking to be carried through everything. He's one of those people that's like good at every game I've ever played with him, but when it came to Dark Souls, it was like he was just uncharacteristically bad. He'd stand around acting like he's meticulously reading the tooltips of every single item he's picking up. He's one of those people where you try to play a Souslike game with and he'll loot an item and be like "Hmm.. Fire Bomb... what does Fire Bomb do?". Like you can't figure it out just by the name? It's a bomb made of fire. Then during boss fights he'd just stand around while I'm fighting. Once I noticed he was doing that I'd stand back and tell him to try and get a boss down to 50% on his own. You could tell he got upset by the idea. When we'd get invaded I'd be like "I ain't no Helicopter instructor. Sink or swim, bitch.". I wanted him to actually learn the game so that I had someone I could actually play this game with. He was just looking for the social status of having completed one and wanted me to do it for him. Now the only time he hops on a Souslike game is when someone offers to carry him through it. At that point just hang out in discord together and stop making the game needlessly more difficult because of your dead-weight havin' ass. Though he probably feels the same about me in MMO's which is why we never raid together in one either.

I helped my friend on his first playthrough, but with a few caviots. 1) I only used things found within the area & 2) my weapons were at half the upgrade of my friend. The only thing I gave him were hints when he was stuck on things. And he only time I broke my rules was after he completed Ranni's quest line and he had to meet Blaidd. I cosplayed as Blaidd for the last like 1/8th of the game bc he really wanted them to be his fried.

Looking at this now, it makes me happy to look back when i got a friend into the series with DS3, I was with him all the time but I was purely there to explain things. First time he'd fight a boss, I'd just watch and if he had questions afterwards I'd answer and watch him slowly pick things up and get better. It makes me happy to know i made the right choice for his ability to learn. Another experienced friend even tried to say " Dont level hp its useless " which was such an annoying statement to make to a new player.
