Basically if your stadium isn't indoors, isn't located in California or in the south you're never getting a Super Bowl, except that one time in New Jersey.

Me having been to a Super Bowl… When given the opportunity to drop $100 for a ticket to see my beloved Raiders in the Super Bowl a mere 2 hour drive away on my birthday about 8 hours before kickoff… I gave a hard no. I told my buddy he should go. But it is a weird vibe. The crowd is not partisan and mainly people who are there to say they were at the Super Bowl. After the game he agreed. He was surrounded by people who were there for an event and not a game. He will never go to another Super Bowl, either.

Lambeau's the least surprising hard no you could have. I remember the question being asked regionally back in the mid-90s, and at that time, someone gave a great stat that answered the question forever for me: the Super Bowl at the time had about 2200 credentialed members of the media go to the week, and there were less than 1200 hotel rooms within an hour of Lambeau.

You're forgetting that, while the Met Life game had surprisingly decent weather DURING the game, a MASSIVE storm hit right after the game. I would love a Super Bowl in the north. The game was designed to be an all-weather game. Not a track contest. Southern college teams wouldn't have nearly the success they have had in the playoff game if the games were in harsher elements. With that said, I was bumped to see how the weather affected the Bucs-Pats this year, which to me was the most anticipated game (which doesn't include my favorite team.) I wouldn't like a team to be at a disadvantage due to the weather.

@@Luuth I remember the game in Minneapolis. It was so cold. The game was inside, but so many people stilled complained about the weather. The weather can change a lot. I think Michigan defeated Ohio State in large part due to the weather. Michigan was tougher too which played a big role. I get your point. And your reasoning is why the games will always be in good conditions. You are right. I just said what I said because personally I would like big games to be played in the North as well. A team like Notre Dame focuses so much on tight ends. They may have faired better versus Alabama last year had the conditions been bad. All the NFL teams have to be balanced. But at college there certainly are some teams built for different conditions.

@arnolddonaldson7129 2 жыл бұрын
@@elh93 Of course it was impacted. The weather could have been much worse - but it was far from a fast track. The worse the weather becomes the more advantage goes to running teams. And Michigan had the better O-line and D-line. If the game was at Jerry's World, or a fast track, I think it would favor the Buckeyes. I am not taking anything away from Michigan. It's Ryan Day's fault the Buckeyes are built like they are. They are built like a southern team playing in bad weather. Michigan wanted the game more and they were tougher. I am not sure why so many Michigan fans are gloating though. That's Michigan's 3rd win since Tressel was hired. Gattis should have kept his mouth shut instead of calling Ohio State soft. That was a big mistake. I wouldn't be surprised if Day put that quote all around the football facilities.

I disagree with your review of Philadelphia. Superbowl 52 was held in Minneapolis during a snowstorm. Disappointing except for the game outcome. Philadelphia has been on the short-list to host the 2016 & 2024 Olympic Games & World Cup Soccer; it could assuredly host the Superbowl venue. Multi-complex of stadiums and arenas, 5 mins from PHL airport, I-95 highway/Amtrak rail access, more than a dozen casinos in the vicinity, the Mummers, ample restaurants, historic monuments/museums, beer gardens, strip clubs, drugs and hookers. Philly, not NYC has been the host of 2 of the largest rock concerts on the globe. Live Aid (1985) & Live 8 Concert (2005) both had over 1.5 million per in attendance. Thank you. Everybody here that wants to see the game played in cold weather needs to remember that the NFL and most people who aren't really football fans see the game as an afterthought. The League is far more invested in the pregame stuff and the halftime show than they are invested in the game no matter what the official position on this subject is. They are never going to accept a stadium where chances are high that some major music star has to try and put on a show in the middle of a rain or snow storm. And honestly lets be real here. The number of interesting competitive Super Bowls is a pretty small percentage of the total number of times it's been played. With so many boring blow outs in the big game the NFL practically has to sell it as an event that is far more than just a championship game just to keep most people interested.

the bigger concern with KC is that the town gets hammered by a storm ruining all of the festivities leading up to the Super Bowl. As a football fan, I care less about that - but the league does not. The league doesn't want to gamble on a place unless there is a big payoff. While weather isn't the reason it's not going to be there, no one is bending over backwards unless you're going to provide some upside like "New York" (cough Jersey cough). KC is a lot higher on the list though (of potential suitors that have never gotten one) than many of the others.

There's a bias against KC for something they cannot control. If they can hold it at Mile High Stadium where it snows 6 months out of a year plus the high altitude, there's honestly no other major excuse to be listed here. The rest can be worked around. They got KU's football stadium in Lawrence to practice at with no issues there. Plus KC's infrastructure is improving, just give it a chance, huh?

Considering it’s a 13 year hiatus at the absolute minimum, don’t hold your breath. I’d expect to see the 9ers or Dallas host one before them who are also staring down 10+ year hiatuses. The pattern of Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, and Arizona hosting the vast majority will continue, just throw SoFi into the rotation now. It’s not a coincidence either that all these cities host the major college bowl games in January either. It took 16 Super Bowls before the NFL left these cities when they started out and they’ve continued on with it for good reason. They’re good places to host the events.

Honestly, Nashville’s booming infrastructure and the area’s love for all sports could make it a quite possible host for a Super Bowl within the next 10-25 years. Plus, this video doesn’t include possible stadium upgrades, including temporary grandstands for increased capacity. Nissan Stadium’s 69,000 capacity seating is already close to the requirements. Maybe some added grandstands to the endzones may help the city in getting a Super Bowl bid.

I would assume it's the same thing for football. And as someone who lives near Chicago I could have said hell no to that stadium off the bat. There's no parking, no facilities and the stadium is right on the edge of the city so if there's a game or event there, you aren't getting into the city by car it just doesn't happen.
