Hey BEAT family! Over the past ten years, some very high-profile mega-church pastors have fallen from ministry. Three of them come to mind at this time, although there are many others. So, I decided to create a video discussing some of the common characteristics of ministry leaders who fall. It is my prayer that your spiritual leader will not be next. If you start to see these signs, please share this video with them before it's too late.

What is another indicator? Sexual sin, which includes preaching about sex in an ungodly way to lead their congregations into sin. We know from the media accounts about 4 pastors who fell sexually and were not accountable until they were exposed. Even though there appeared to be repentance by some, they quickly went back into a new ministry after refusing to be counseled for a prescribed amount of time. I believe they should have left the ministry completely. God forgives a truly repentant person but their godly leadership has been forever damaged. I would not be under the ministry of such an ungodly minister. Because of the SEVERE damage these pastors caused to many individuals and the church, I will name them. Also, because of the damage currently being caused by these pastors to those who do not understand their pasts and their unwillingness to have stepped down. Ted Haggard, Mark Driscoll, Bill Hybels, Andy Savage.
@vrai62193 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can tell something's wrong when they're preaching. One minister would read out a Bible verse, then close his Bible & start preaching. But he would be all over the place, going from many many different subject to subject, they weren't all related & had absolutely nothing to do with the Bible verse he had read. I believed within myself that something was wrong in his life & started to pray for him. It turns out that he was sexually abusing women in his church.

My husband and I had to make a difficult decision to leave the church we went to for 14 years, because so many things happened all at once. Since then it’s been 3 years and we’ve had a few other things we’ve experienced from Christian “leaders.” I think if we were not rooted & grounded in our walk with Christ, we would probably have completely walked away from church. Thank God we have now found a church. I really wish we would all stop putting Christian leaders on a pedestal. I had to learn the hard way.

As someone who use to exhault myself for the gift that God had given me. He took me all the way from the stage to a regular member of a church. It happened so fast and it was a very painful experience. As a father, God disciplines us. Discipline is very harsh sometimes but it's for our good. So, downfall in my experience is the first sign of God's Discipline. Let us of coz seek to help these leaders and pray for them. One thing we have in common is that we are humans, praising someone for their good works might lead to them exhaulting themselves the way I did. Once again, God is our father and he deals with us.

The pain from the emotional abuse that I went through many years ago is still there, sometimes feeling like it happened yesterday. I saw these signs, but was not mature enough to know that what they were saying & how they were treating me was not acceptable. I figured that since they were older & "wiser" spiritually, that they must be right & I was falling short. I am glad I finally left those churches.

Hmm, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your perspective on this. However, while you were explaining your points these three thoughts came to mind: Pride is an issue everyone struggles with. Why do people put spiritual leaders on some sort of pedestal? And should the focus be on looking at spiritual leaders with a microscope or when, not if, when they fall ensuring that grace is extended versus finger pointing and point making. My husband was a spiritual leader for 5 years, but more importantly he’s a human. The expectation for Pastors to be this perfect, arrived, unaffected by the very things everyone deals with in life is unreal and the pressure to show up as this person is unreal too. This leads many Pastors into isolation. I meet so many Pastors and their wives at retreats who struggle with this, that is, they are known of by many but truly known by few. What you touched on in the video is so good and it is applicable to ALL believers. Pastors have families, lives, bills, struggle emotionally, mentally, etc. This is why we are not to follow men, but we are to follow our spiritual leaders AS THEY follow Christ not looking at them as a sort of Christ. Spiritual leaders will fail you. The higher you put them up the harder they fall. And sadly when spiritual leaders fall many don’t have a safe place to land. From my POV a lot of pastors and their families don’t have a space to just be a friend; they’re always “othered”. How dare they show up to family dinner and not pray over the food, when the man of the house is present. How dare they have a off day and not be jolly ready with advice and a encouraging word. How dare they be going through a tough season and question God while you’re around. This leads to isolation, pride, creating a inner circle etc it’s a form of protection that may lead to sin yes, but it’s a protection nonetheless. I will digress. Side note: I hope you don’t take this any kind of way though, but this has just been my experience seeing both sides of ministry. When God removes a Pastor he’s never done with them. I pray for these three Pastors restoration in all areas, I pray that they’re surrounded by real friends to walk with them through this, and a renewed zeal to pursue their first love. ❤️

One of the things that sticks with me is that sometimes people stand on the stage and make a comment such as "if your life is going well, you need a God check." As if things going well for you is an indicator that you are doing something wrong. It might be, but it might not be. It seems to me that we have a number of folks in the audience at most churches I've been to who are left unsure of their standing. They are always put off balance by pithy statements and not enough actual teaching. We get nice life lessons, but hardly anything about actual salvation and what God and Jesus is all about.

The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered." whilst we have "rest" we need to be fortifying ourselves. Thank you so much Allen for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. This is a side effect of pride but I believe pastors start believing their own hype. Many people are going to mega churches to be entertained instead of learning more about a relationship with Christ. Sin feeds off of sin. The congregants feed the pastor’s ego, the pastor feeds the congregants baby food about how God wants them to be prosperous and happy and comfortable.

Hey Wanda, the same thing happened to me a few years ago. Except the pastor is still living in sin and has refused any rebuke at all. It was so disappointing really. But! God used that to get me in a place where I really looked to him and he picked me up! Jesus has just completely changed my life since then and I’m growing in him with such a passion to do his Will and continue in him! It took me a while to heal from what happened, so I kind of understand what you went through. I’m so glad that God is faithful. I’m so glad that you overcame it as well through God.

This is why you should never put your trust in people, not even in pastors! They are and remain people. If you really trust Yahweh and Yahweh alone, you will never be ashamed! How many times have I come across Christians who have been broken and damaged by pastors, but that often has to do with their wrong intentions. Even though a church falls, even though a pastor falls, you must ALWAYS stay strong by ALWAYS trusting Yahsuah!

I was sent to a church to reveal massive fraud. The pastor had literally stolen millions. It ended with a death threat by the pastor from the altar during the Sunday morning service in front of over 200 people. Literally this was in Chicago. Pfft not scared. Eventually the pastor was taken down and shot by the gangbangers in the neighborhood.

@@consumersmarts-recognizing1729 Horrible! But do you see how dangerous it is to play with the church's money and steal it from the church? Yahweh had already warned in Exodus 20 "Thou shalt not steal" And Yahsuah has also warned not to run after the "mamon" the money demon in Matt 6 'No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and the other, or he will cleave to the one and despise the other; ye cannot serve God and mammon, Matt. 6:24. And this what you wrote here about the pastor who committed this terrible act is now a great example of the enormous catastrophic consequences when God's commandments are broken! I am very affected by it and I don't even live in America (I live in the Netherlands) .But we have also seen similar cases here.Terrible!

I really want to thank you for doing this video. I have been battling mental health issues for most of my life. I trusted leadership to help me through only to be dogged, embarrassed and humiliated from the pulpit, made untrue assumptions and blamed for things I didnt do. I was shunned and other members were told not to talk to me. Everything that they heard they automatically stood in agreement with the one lying and never talked to me about it. I heard most of it off the street. I have had my heart broken over and over again. I wouldve done anything for them and gave them the utmost respect and courtesy. I thought it was my fault and I wasnt worthy to really be a member of church again. I begged God to tell me what I did and why is this happening. I only wanted to get better and serve God with all I had. I'm still trying to find my way back to church but I never left God and God never left me. Hes the only reason why I made it through with my sanity!

One is James MacDonald. I can tell his silhouette from the thumbnail 😂 This may be a severe oversimplification but my understanding is he was basically a bully, domineering, and was accused of misusing ministry funds. Frankly, I still like his preaching. He's always been able to reach me in a special way, so I still listen to his stuff from the about 2010-2016.

@@calebskinner5317 Even before James' fall, I didn't enjoy listening to him. I can't stand it when any preacher interrupts his preaching by saying, Do this!, or Tell the person next to you that!, or the preacher expects his listeners to repeat after him what he says. This is called "manipulation"! That's a red flag of any preacher who does this! The Holy Spirit doesn't like this! It's offensive to Him!

As you have very rightly stated, the lack of effective accountability lies at the root of many pastoral failures. The thing is that accountability needs to be build in from the very beginning. If not by the time it becomes an issue the power dynamic often has developed in a way that implementing effective accountability is not possible. Denominations with a strong hierarchical structure can have an advantage here over more independent churches.

I cannot begin to describe how broken hearted I was to see how toxic my spiritual home had become.
