@@jptrainor yep not like this was a quebec issue. The federal government says it has reached a deal with Canadian National Railway Company to acquire the historic Quebec Bridge. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters in Quebec City that Ottawa will spend $1 billion over the next 25 years to repair, repaint and maintain the bridge, extending the span’s life for “decades.”

The feds have this a bit backward. A Chignecto disaster would not cut off NS from the rest of Canada, it would cut off Canada from one of its major international seaports. Also, the amount of money they’re arguing about is comical compared to the commerce through that corridor.

Somehow the trudeau NDPLiberal government finds billions for ukraine and other countries, but of course we have to beg to spend our tax dollars to help canadians.

The federals cannot pay for everything in this country. Provinces exist for a reason. Mind-boggling the provinces doesn’t even want to pay for 1$ when the federals already agreed 50%.

Is NS helpless? Why should the feds be paying 100%? An amount in proportion to federal tax revenue, perhaps. That's it. Pathetic.
@conwaysmith9167Ай бұрын
Because if the rail and highway link connecting Canada to its fourth largest port is severed, it would be bad for the entire country. That's not even bringing up the Federal Government's greater capacity to generate revenue than the provinces for this kind work, or the fact that Nova Scotia suddenly becoming an island would cost way more for the feds down the road if they need to perform disaster relief.

The irony of expecting the feds to pay for the climate change protection but opposing the industry tax, the very revenue stream they designed to be able to afford that. Not to mention the double standard of expecting the feds to finance everything but the province should have to pay nothing. My husband and I have lived in Nova Scotia all our lives and it has been about 30 years since the province invested in public housing, the Tenancy act has been amended to give landlords all the power, the only wage increases during the same time were made law during the NDP administration, we have been 5 years without a family doctor and trying (with only micro success) to access care through pharmacy clinics and walk-in clinics. The province eliminated our capital city's regional elected school board and has no apparent intention to re-instate one. The premiers' chronic mismanagement (malfeasance?) and misinformation has brought our nation here to this point, imho.
