Meet Juan. He was born in Peru, studied and worked in the US, and then relocated to Singapore. During our chat, he shared with me the most striking differences between living in California and Singapore, his perception of Singlish as a Latin American, and the challenges he is facing in obtaining permanent residency as a Peruvian. Enjoy!

Hi Max. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your videos. I discovered and learn so much about Singapore (even though i am Singaporean and lived here most of my life) and other places and other people's perspectives. Your videos are honest and insightful. Keep up the great work! 👍

NEVER leave your valuables on the table. Low crime doesn't mean no crime. Just prepare tissue packets or foldable umbrella. And do not be too loud. Nothing irks Singaporeans more than super loud foreigners

You bring me joy!❤🙂I love the kind and generous heartwarming atmosphere that you create, your kind, easygoing, warm vibe. ❤I like the essence how you live on. I need to be true to myself and find a job I am passionate about. I want to find a way to live as who I really am.

I believe its conformity and herd mentality. Some people simply have higher level of such traits in themselves which will made it easier for them to conform and adapt to the environments they live in. Advantages are they will adjust and blend in better in a lot of places they go to. Disadvantages are they will lose a bit of individuality and uniqueness over time. Unless it is necessary I don't waste time on queuing.

I don't understand how a city as large as Lima can get by with speed humps (or bumps) instead of traffic lights to control traffic at some traffic junctions. I loved my stay at Lima mostly because I was in Miraflores. The views of the Pacific Ocean are just magnificent. I'd have to say that Peru is the South American country that is most Asian-friendly (that I've been to) because of history and how integrated Asians are in that society. One of the biggest supermarket chains in Lima is Wong! And they have pretty good made to order ceviche!

Leaving phone, wallet or valuables around is not really a singaporean thing. It is more of a younger generation thing. They just leave things all around. I would call them in my dialect as " no parent teach".
