3 things. 1. So much love for the GH5 as I started my photo / video life using that camera a few years back. 2. Sweet hack for CST in resolve, if you just type "P" in gamma and color space it instantly brings you to Panasonic, rather than having to scroll. Same with "R" for Rec.709 etc... 3. Great video! Definitely still a great camera in 2024 and I wish I kept mine as a C cam.

The hacked GH1/GH2 were legendary too. Loved those cameras. “Upstream Color” was famously shot on a hacked GH2.

The GH5 is the camera that changed the game back in 2017. The specs the Ibs to this day Sony nor Conon can bring a true Mirrorless camera that can match the GH5. Can now get one for 500 or 800. The GH5 was the camera I felt that if I own would mean I have reach a level to use the camera. Started with the G7 then the G80 finally got the GH5 and it's a camera I'll never sell. I do have the S5ii as I wanted a FF camera and will prob get the G9ii but the GH5 will still be uses as the 3rd camera. Such a benchmark camera.

The GH5 has a bad reputation for it's auto focus but all anyone needs to do is change the focus mode to pinpoint or 1-area and the auto focus will be near perfect. The problem is the 225 multi area focus mode which tries to focus on a huge area.

Way back in 2017 I sold my C100 and up/down graded to the GH5. The footage definitely had a less cinematic and more "videoy" look to it. But the 4k, 10bit, slow-motion, IBIS, etc made it better for the wedding videos I was shooting at the time. I have very fond memories of it overall.

Awesome video man! You should do a video on the Sony Fs7 too. I can’t believe how cheap they are these days. I bought one a few months back for 700 bucks and there is one on MPB selling for 1000$ with all the accessories. As you probably know, color was the main thing people complaint about but I think it’s just about knowing how to work with the footage.
@endah08
@endah08 4 ай бұрын
I think one thing that hurts the gh5 is that people have gotten way better at grading since it was released. Remember how few cameras even had 10bit then? There's so much terribbly graded gh5 footage out there that does a disservice to the quality of the sensor. Even the handling of higher ISOs is better now than then.

I use to run with the GH5 on an old job I had and enjoyed the camera but struggled with the colour management - I think similar to you. I've just recently come across your channel, also at the same time that I have moved away from Premiere to Resolve... mainly for the colour management abilities. What you're doing with colour looks like the right approach to help me continue to improve my footage - do you have a video going over your approach to colour? Even just having a template node tree with titles is beyond what I'm doing currently! Great channel - I've subbed.

Thanks for the kind words. I've definitely thought about making a video talking about my node tree/the way I approach grading. It's hard because I change it up so much and I don't want to lead anyone astray with bad advice, I'm constantly learning new stuff and changing stuff up. I'll probably just do it anyway, we can all learn together haha

I have a GH4, two 5s, and a 5S. In most of my gigs, the cameras remain locked down, so I don't find myself battling much with the focus magnifier. I have been really happy with how reliable and consistent these cameras have been for me. If I have one complaint, it is the slow autofocus as I use my GH4 as my webcam. When compared to the Sony's I find myself tempted (only occasionally) to switch, but given the volume of glass I have at this point, I am going to stick with these guys for the foreseeable future. Great video.

By today's standard, the GH5's IBIS is good, but not fantastic. Even the old G9 trumps it. The same goes for the battery's stamina, which is one of the worse in the GH line. As for image quality, you can make it as good or as bad as you like. I've been using the GH5 for the last 3 years, for both stills, and video. I don't need another camera. Let me know when the perfect camera has been made.

The GH5 was one of our go-to wedding rigs wayyy back in the day! Paired it with a Fuji XT3(interesting I know), but ultimately let it go for similar reasons. Still heavily involved in the Lumix ecosystem and have considered getting a GH5 again for a C cam/backup to our S bodies. Great work Jake, much love from Tennessee!

Okay here in 2024, most cameras STILL overheat recording in 4k. It's NOT a joke. You can buy almost any Sony mirrorless body and they will ALL over heat except for FX3, FX30 and A7S3 if you only record 4k in the lower framerates.

Yoo learned something new about Resolve and I've been a power user for years! The alt zoom on vectorscope is nice. I had a GH5 back in the day, graduating from a Canon 5D MkIII to a 10bit 4K camera was so satisfying. Speedboosting the EF glass to it felt natural. I'm kind of still in the same boat, since my BMPPC4K is supposed to have the same sensor as the GH5 (just looks way better).

A true testament of this camera is its ability to support indie creatives. Back in 2019, I shot this short film with my friends and we had little to no money, but I was able to push the GH5 to the max and get some stunning image quality. It really is a fantastic camera and although I'm shooting with an Ursa these days, I often consider going back and purchasing the GH5II for personal use. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j52bf4eElJyhoKM

Loved the gh5. Got some of my first paying projects on it. Jumped to canon from Panasonic and ended up at the c70. About a year after the c70 I kept missing the practicality of Panasonic and went back but this time with the lumix s5iix. Being back with Panasonic has brought back so many fond memories of my early days as a filmmaker. The s5iix really took the gh5 and fixed everything I disliked about it. Watching your video took me back and I appreciate what you do on KZbin!

Hey there, I'm in the lookout for my first mirrorless camera. Right now, I'm really leaning towards the a6500 and the GH5 (used/refurbished for 400-650€). While I'd prefer to stick with Sony for E-mount, it's not a deal-breaker if I can't. My focus is about 60% on video and 40% on photography. My budget is around 400-600€, whether it's new, refurbished, or used. I'm also fine with waiting for new releases as my camera purchase is planned around summer. Any advice or recommendations would be awesome and i hope someone can help me out!

Lol I'm in the same boat. Looking for the same advice without having to spend the extra money to find out the hard way. I have a nikon d5600 with 2 lens. Any help would be great. I know from yt that the sonys have the best auto focus. Canon has the best color science. Fuji has its own color. No body talks about olympus (even though the e-m1 has ibis and has the same 4/3 lens as lumix).
@maesl69
@maesl69 Ай бұрын
I chose the ZV-E10 after comparing it with the a6500 and other cameras. If you're considering the a6500 solely for its IBIS, I'd say it's not worth it there's minimal difference with IBIS on or off, especially in 4K. If you're leaning towards Panasonic, consider the G9. Although it didn't come with 10-bit video out of the box, a firmware update adds this feature. Compared to the GH5, the G9 offers superior autofocus and had a lower MSRP at launch. However, being a Panasonic camera, its autofocus still lags behind Sony's. In summary, if your focus is 70-90% on video, go for the GH5 or G9. For hybrid use, choose between the ZV-E10 or a6500, depending on whether you want a viewfinder or not.

The GH5 is a pretty great camera, and they are practically indestructible. It all comes down to experience, any halfway decent camera will make great images in your hands now, because you know what you are doing.
