That's exactly what i was going to say, amazing build ♥
@QemeHАй бұрын
The way I understood it, you need to make the reservoir _before_ the dam almost as deep as the river _after_ the damn. Think of this in terms of actual dams that are build in river valleys: The part upstream doesn't get filled in with soil, it just gets drowned way under water. So the actual floor should be roughly the same height on both sides of the dam, it's just that the water level will fill up the reservoir to the top of the dam over time. And when it's full, THEN you'll produce maximum power output. [Edit: Oh, and you can't put the top of the dam higher than your water source. But I feel like that's obvious...]
@imperaturАй бұрын
Okay yeah that makes sense!
@JouleThief29Ай бұрын
I can't speak for the game, but irl mostly two factors determine the power output of dam: The water flow and the drop height. For reservoir dams the drop height is basically the only thing you can control however (at least in game). Your goal should be to maximize the drop height then, meaning the water level on the reservoir side should be way higher than on the outlet or with other words: The higher the dam the better. The actual depth of the reservoir and the lake/river at the outlet should not matter much as long as it does not obstruct the water flow if I'm thinking correct right now. Feel free to correct me if I got something wrong, I'm no expert on dams 😅
@QemeHАй бұрын
@@JouleThief29 Yeah, but the game is wierd that way. It calculates the power generated by the height of the water before the dam (and water flow) - so you need to dig deep and fill up.
@slavepetrichАй бұрын
@QemeH That make sense , thought I'm not the dam(n) expert either, but I think widtt of the dam should also affect on the more power output?
@QemeHАй бұрын
@@slavepetrich Not really, it seems. Only in the sense that a wider dam gets more water flow (i.e. current) over it's width. But a narrow dam with high flow will yield more energy than a wide dam with mediocre flow. As far as I can tell, the game looks at two things and two things only when generating power in hydro-electric dams (aside from staffing and all this stuff all service buildings have) - and those are: 1) *Height* of water on one side over the other - and height is calculated by the formula [water level] minus [ground level]. So you need one side of the dam to have a big water column (low ground, high water level) and the other one a small water column (low ground, also low water level). This is contrary to actual physics, but it is how the game works. The difference in the height of the water column is what is important. [Hot tip: Just dig a trench where the dam is supposed to go that is slightly deeper than anything around it and THEN place the dam in that trench. You can shape the rest of the reservoir however you see fit, as long as you don't touch the trench.] 2) The *current* (or flow) of the water. This is very difficult to affect and for simplicity sake you should assume it's a god given. (You CAN mess with it by reshaping the river and editing the water source to get it to flow differently, but that messes with the ENTIRE map's water system, so be carefull.)

the dam is nys's biggest electricity producer, providing up to 2.6 million kilowatts of clean electricity. located in lewiston, 4.5 miles downstream from niagara falls, the niagara power project uses a gated tunnel under the city of niagara to divert water from the niagara river into two reservoirs. the overall facility includes two intake structures, two underground conduits and associated pump stations, a forebay, the lewiston reservoir, the lewiston pump generating plant, the robert moses niagara power plant (the inspirational dam), and the niagara switchyard. fun fact: when the niagara plant produced its first power in 1961, it was the largest hydropower facility in the western world. go visit the free visitor's center there (it's cool) ‼️

MAXIMUM disrespect of topography! CPP would be mad. :-)
@justanotheraccounthere2014Ай бұрын
Power produced is proportional to both the flow rate and height difference between water levels. It does not complain about "low water depth", so you probably already have big enough of a drop in height. You might have the problem of the majority of the water still flowing through its original course instead of the new lake and dam. Try entirely blocking off the river main and see what happens.

I didn't expect this build at all lol. This build isn't too unrealistic. There are reservoirs that aren't fed naturally by any river. They pump water up into the reservoir at night when total grid energy usage is low and then generate electricity via gravity during the day when grid energy usage is high. Incredible build.

I think in CS I , the amount of electricity produced by the damn was the height difference between the water levels at top and the bottom of the damn. I don't know if its same in CS 2. Try removing the road under the damn so it can touch the river water. Probably then it will generate energy.

u may need to make a deep Cliff at the up stream 1st, or a canyan and then place the dam with deep cliff don't place the dam at the land and deep the terrain at upsteam reservior zone and u may closed the river flow exit and let the dam as the only way to overflow the water.

I have not play C:S2 yet but I remember in the first one I spent a lot of time experimenting with the hydroelectric dams and found that to make the most electricity you need high flow conditions. In one of the overlays you can see arrows denoting flow direction (and rate) and manipulating terrain you can increase the size of those arrows (flow). With some creative floor bedding you can make high flow just about anywhere!

I had some problems with water sources that didnt get a lot of volume to do a waterfall. It could work better with the red water spawn location, that is the one that flows water off, the one you used (blue) is for constant level, ideal for lakes and ponds. Try to change that.

Hey, this dam looks really cool. I have an idea what you should build. You should show that this city didn't come out of nowhere. To do this, you should add construction sites where new apartment blocks and investments are being built. There are nice packages of building-themed objects in the Steam Workshop, so you should have a lot to choose from. Thanks to this, the city will look more realistic and it will be visible that it is still developing. I love your videos bro :)
