I'm not crying, you're crying! No, wait, we're BOTH crying! This touches my public health heart in so many ways. I especially love that, while of course Sawyer plays a critical role in this and should be recognized (will be ordering them for my home emergency kit and bugout bag STAT) you kept the focus on the Honduran woman without whom the filters would just be so much plastic trash. Too many times corporations and organization parachute in like great white saviors and fail to make the connections needed to make their donations and programs meaningful and successful--so again, Kudos to Sawyer, BUT yes, Miranda, you nailed it, it is the women who take on the responsibility for filtering water not just for their own but for other households and for training other water women that actually make the program work. I went out and bought a Sawyer after I heard them on The Outdoor Evolution podcast. They mentioned how they'd donated filters to Canadian First Nations reserves that had boil water advisories for over 20 years. The Canadian government keeps promising they'll get treatment plants built (or fix the broken ones) and they just never get around to it. So Sawyer stepped up and gave them filters. Many thanks to Sawyer for everything they do around the world, and even right here in North America, to give people clean water to drink. And for all of us backpackers who have the privilege to buy them, so we also have clean water while we're out on trail. Thank you, Miranda and crew, ❤ for showing us this. And for showing us just how many times we should be backflushing our filters! 😲

Two SASR (Australian Special Forces) and a handful of UNHCR workers I'm friends with all use the Sawyer Squeeze or the Katadyn Vario, and they advise against every other water filter brand out there - That should tell you all you need to know about Sawyer and Katadyn and their 'competition' (if you can even call them that).

When you went into Maria's home to do the GIS survey - I kinda lost it. When she went in to tearfully say goodbye to all the people in her home and she made a point to hug the man behind the camera ; . ; that would be so overwhelming to have so many people in your home, asking you questions and filming you, she was so gracious and kind and open. I love that tip about banging the filter on your palm. It makes a huge difference. I have a relatively new filter that I have taken on a handful of trips. I actually used it this morning on a slightly longer day hike and hadn't cleaned it yet after getting home. The water I filtered on the trail this morning was from a nice clear pool of water in a creek. I back flushed it once and got a little grime, but it went clear relatively quick. I tapped a few times and back flushed again. It was worse than the first back flush. There was definitely gunk and grime in my filter from previous trips. This is a game changer. Thanks!

When I visit my family in Brasil, those office water dispensers are in almost every home. Never thought about buying Sawyer filters so they don't need to keep buying water. Great video. My big takeaways are, water is a human right and being able to buy a new filter when I don't take care of the old one is a privilege. The visual for the impact of the cleaning process was fantastic. It's easy to say "clean your filter" but seeing the process combined with the proof of how long the filter can last if you just take care of it was fantastic.

For all those people here saying this is just an ad and Sawyer is pushing its products, so what if it is? The product works great, and they're doing great things for many different communities. I realize that this is all a sacrifice to the gods of algorithm with the title of the video being least informative and most marketing-like, but I wish it could still convey a bit more what the video is about. 95% of the reason I clicked on it was suspiciously long duration (knowing Miranda videos), and I'd be sad if I had missed it only because of the title that has 'BUY' in it and not a clue as to what an important and pivotal initiative it is REALLY about. Bravo! Thanks for promoting the concept of clean water in poorer countries. I have been involved in promoting water projects through Church World Service. In 2006 and again in 2007 we got to visit water projects throughout Kenya and also in Uganda. It was amazing how a simple well or other water project which provides clean water can totally transform a community. There are the obvious health benefits, but also it frees people in many ways, especially the women and girls. They have the responsibility of getting water and can end up walking miles every day to fetch water. With a local clean water supply, much time is freed up for other activities and girls get to stay in school longer. God bless you for doing this video.

Fantastic video! I went to Honduras with my mom (a nurse) and Doctors Without Borders in 2008. Since I don't have medical training, I mostly helped mix concrete out in the villages for properly ventilated cooking stoves to go in the homes. I'm so grateful for all the various groups providing aid to the amazing people of Honduras!

My husband and I did a Safe Water Sabbatical. I did a small fundraiser to buy 15 bucket filters and gave them to families and villages as we traveled. Your video was absolutely fantastic! It motivates me as a hiker to again give back. This is an extraordinary video! I have been aware in the past that Sawyer does a lot to benefit others with clean water but I had no idea of the scale and this was just at one country. I was also astonished to see how long these filters last with proper care. I watch lots of long-course hikers and many will get several new ones along the AT or PCT or others. It's great to know the right way to care for them!

What I liked about yours, Miranda, was the in-depth look at the process at getting the filters to communities and then educating the water women. I am heading to a remote area of Nicaragua and want to bring this program to that community. I believe Sawyer and Amparo International are in communication. I am a firm believer in Sawyer. This is a great video. Too many have no idea how lucky we are to have clean, fresh and safe water. Very touching celebration. You always have to watch out when visiting these areas because too often end up leaving all you stuff behind, including your heart for them, because there is such a need. Awesome that the daughters of one of the ladies have received a good education too. Miranda is so tender hearted. Literally this is saving people's lives. Sawyer should be proud of their efforts.

36:29 I just watched your entire video and I had tears in my eyes. I own a Sawyer Water Filter but haven’t used it “for real” yet. I mainly got it for emergencies. However, I’m recovering from an ankle replacement surgery and I love to hike so I’m going to use it on the trail. But that’s not the most amazing thing. Just this morning a group from Knoxville, TN (where I live) left on a mission trip to Honduras. They will be work with those struggling with addiction in communities and places of incarceration. I would have been on that trip except for my surgery. I can’t wait to tell them about the “Water Women” and share your video. Great video. I hiked in La Tigra National Park back in 1999 when our family our family volunteered to build housing with Church World Service. I am also a hydrologist and I took a simple water filter which screwed on as a cap for a water bottle. The group thought I was crazy, but I wanted to test my filter in less than pristine conditions (not like our Colorado mountain streams). I drank from taps, from rivers, from wells, while the rest of the group drank only bottled water. I was fine.

I have known for many many years what Sawyer filters do to help people out. This is one of the reasons why I buy this filter and the other reason is they are awesome. The only reason I have to replace my filters are in an usual cold spell came in and I wake up in the morning and everything is frozen solid, including my filter, which is never a good thing. I guess that’s one thing that people from Honduras don’t have to worry about.
