Reminds me of the Renshaw machine we had back at my old shop for checking gears. Love cmm machines!

Have used similar. Change the inspection fixtures for various jobs. Pretty easy when you are dealing with 6 machines at on

Where do you get your components for CMM fixtures? For example the handles, stops, aluminum plate with hole pattern?

Can you guys please make a Training Video on how to detect geometys and scan features on parts with a cmm ? And how to create cad data from it?

I used to make gear selector forks of malleable iron and checked size and thickness with plug and snap gauges. One day a CMM was installed and all the gauges taken away. Seemed a good idea except that the CMM could only check one machine's output in 20 minutes or 24 parts per hour but the 5 cncs were making 120 per hour. Management solution was to throw away 100 parts per hour. Needless to say they shut down shortly after. Needless to say this was in UK.

Quality kit, HEFTY price but if you do a lot of routine inspection for larger batches one of those must be awesome.

What is the programming like for this CMM? How much training will the machinist need to get up an running? or will this be programmed off line (by the inspector) and just set up to button push for the shop guys?
@pocket57513 жыл бұрын
Depends on how good you are with a cmm. It's a lot like a cnc but pretty much but with more expensive and sensitive parts. I went from cnc operating to cmm programing and quality lab manager in under 6 years. Just takes time and effort.

It's not terribly complex. If you understand the part you can usually understand writing a program to check it. It is learning the software itself (where is that button, how do I check this, etc.) that is the real learning curve. How much training is needed here is really dependent on the individual. Here at Titan's I will program the MiSTAR for the machinist to button push as that ends up being the most efficient.

@@travisjarrett2355 Cool. I am starting my shop in the beginning of the year and looking for a CMM with small floor space and doesn't take up a ton of my time programming since I will be a one man show. I am very familiar with Mastercam and CALYPSO. Thank you for the response.

blizzard 1563 might be worth looking at a manual cmm as a first step. cheaper, no programming, can do pretty much most of same measurements and only requires a day or so training to put it to use

Why is an aluminum tow hook even requiring any sort of tolerance that requires a cmm..? This makes absolutely no sense what am I missing here?
@caseycappoen2513 жыл бұрын
OVER ENGINEERED PART! I deal with it on a monthly. One hand won't talk to the other. Then clients wonder why their product costs so much more.... "Did you read your own print ?????"
@jamesm32683 жыл бұрын
@Yorkiepoocharlie I think you have completely and utterly missed the point of my comment. In no way was I saying a part doesn't have measured tolerances. But! What I was saying is in no way should an aluminum tow hook ever require a multi point cmm inspection.... Plug guage and few quick measurements by hand with calipers would completely and utterly suffice for this part.
