0:25 teflon tape is NOT to create a seal, it's to overcome friction toallow the fitting to be turned further so that the mating surfaces (the ends of the pipe/fitting) seat properly. teflon tape will not form a seal, nor will anything else you do to the threads, unless the threads are specifically designed to create the seal, in which case you would not be using teflon tape. the seal is always created solely by the intended mating surfaces.
@charmio5 күн бұрын
Thats simply not true. While it does indeed act as a lubricant, its primary purpose is a filler that fills the gap between threads to create a secure seal to prevent leaks. If it was unable to achieve this then you wouldn't be able to use it to create a watertight seal on non-tapered threads, which you can.
@roywarriner84415 күн бұрын
NPT stands for national pipe taper, locking the taper makes a metal to metal seal, teflon tape or pipe thread lubricant is just that, a lubricant. NPS is national pipe straight, where the seal is attained with the use of a nut on the straight thread that compresses a washer against a sealing surface. Used mostly for connections to appliances such as radiators or boilers. I have 40 years experience in pipe trades working in commercial and industrial construction. I'm a licensed plumber, steamfitter and gas and oil pipe fitter. You can't argue with that.
