I get what Hector is saying, but I think he is being too much of a fanboy about it. I think on the surface, they'll find a way to have it make all the sense, while still keeping a faithfulness to those elements in the comics. They can still change it up though to have it be fresh. I know it's hard for hardcore fans to separate the comics from the films, but I believe they can do their own thing and have it be unique and special in its own right while still being "loyal" to the comics. I can see them being in the 60s, coming to the present day and having a reason to remain there that is literally and thematically resonant to the characters....

First of all, this was an amazing video, and I had a blast watching it. I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who is a part of this channel, both on and off camera. Secondly: Hector, I know you sometimes sift through the comments, and I would love to hear your opinion on something. (I'd of course like to hear anyone's opinions, if they're willing to contribute to the conversation without malice.) If I'm not mistaken, I believe an early FF adventure brings the team into the microverse, where Doom has essentially taken over the place. Sharing this idea, perhaps the FF team is from the present day, but upon receiving their powers - or shortly thereafter - they find themselves trapped in a different realm (the microverse or negative zone) and they encounter a lower tiered villain, such as Mole Man. What if this alternate realm or subuniverse originated in the 60's? Essentially, what if instead of the movie being set in the 60's, the FF find themselves in a PLACE set in the 60's, the same way that Counter-Earth was set in the 90's in GoTG Vol 3? Or would that still be too convoluted for more casual Marvel fans to latch onto? And lastly, if most or all of the story is set in the present day and the Valentines Day picture turns out to be more concept art than promotional material, I think a good villain could be Terrax. This could set up Galactus for a future film, and have a villain that could honestly be one and done. And if Terrax is defeated/killed, it would leave Galactus without a herald, which would eventually lead to Silver Surfer. Alternatively, if the movie is primarily set in the 60's, I think a more grounded villain could be someone like the Puppet Master - I think he'd be just goofy enough to fit in with the 60's vibe.

Across the Spider-Verse subverted so many expectations for such a silly villain as Spot and made him so menacing. Give Molecule Man the same treatment. Make him be the first act villain, the silly guy who gets taken down very easily, show off the F4 power sets and synergies, and have MM come back in a second movie or in Secret Wars much more powerful.

This is how I would balance the 60's start with Hector's concern about explaining why Reed never figured out/tried to return to the 60's. You do it in a way that proves that Reed is actually the smartest man alive, and has/gains a better understanding of timelines and the multiverse than anyone else we've met so far. You can have a heartbreaking scene where Reed explains to the team that they can't go back to where they started because that place no longer exists. As soon as you go back in time, you've already created a parallel timeline/traveled to another universe. It might look and feel the same as your origin point--but it isn't. And creating new timelines also creates new, and duplicates existing, multiversal threats. He can explain that the Avengers weren't actually traveling back in their own timeline like they thought they were, but they were just jumping to a substantially similar timeline that looked and felt the same. Similarly with the Ms. Marvel time travel explanation/situation, our Kamala Khan was actually providing the origin story for another Universe's/timelines Kamala Khan--just like a different one started hers, providing even more potential incursion points. Reed comes to the realization that the time traveled FF are in the proper timeline in MCU present day. Trying to do anything else other than live in this timeline would be incredibly selfish and invite all sorts of new horrors. You can make it even more heart breaking by explaining that Ben's wife was left behind, and he has the depressing thought eventually that her never seeing him as the Thing might actually be a good thing, and that can be some emotional baggage he has to overcome, both with himself and his relationship with Reed. For the Doom of it all, I think you can explain it that Reed and the FF had a relationship with MCU's modern day Doom's grandfather (a version of which potentially becomes god emporer Doom because he's from a timeline/universe where there wasn't a FF to stop him). That way you keep actual Doom as a modern day villain and threat that can be developed in future projects, and can have another version become god emperor Doom to be used in Secret Wars sooner.

As much as people say they don’t want origin stories, they do. Idk how many times I’ve heard people try theorize what exactly happened to Tom holland Spider-Man. Sure we know the basics, but given it’s the MCU and there’s other characters and settings on the board, what specifically happened? Did he get bit in a stark lab? Was uncle Ben killed by some avengers level threat and Pete wasn’t there to prevent it? Yes, we’re tired of seeing the same origin story, but the MCU has always had the opportunity to make it different by including other people and settings in the sand box. We could get an FF origin that is their origin, but still be completely different from what we’ve seen so far because they’re now allowed to interact with other people.

I agree w/ Hector. It would be weird for the Fantastic Four to be from the 60s imo: 1) why wouldn't they wanna go back to their own time/ universe? 2) how could Reed by the smartest man alive after he's brought into a world where technology is much more advanced than anything he's ever seen? I think they are a modern day team that was starting their mission the moment that Thanos snapped. The combo of whatever the catalyst for their powers and the snap ends them up in the 60s and they spend that movie trying to get home to present day which they accomplish at the end of the movie.

That's assuming they want to return to the past. I can see the F4 bar Reed being eager to return to the past but one by one see the benefits of living in the future. Jonny feels more excited to be around other superheroes, Sue and ben probably would feels less ostracized in the modern day than in the 60s and feel more free to be who they are, sure they had a home in the 60s but they have each other and thats all that matters to them in the end. The reason we want them to be from the past is to answer the question where has Reed been if he has been around for the past 20ish years. Shield would have picked him up loooong time ago to study the tesserect, the skrull bodies, etc etc. Banner would have called him to discuss the issue of time travel endgame. There are things that reed would have been a part of most certainly even in an unpowered state.

Why not do Annihilus and let the movie take place in the Negative Zone for a large portion of it? That can do their time dilation or whatever to bring them from the 60s to the present.
