Maybe the Hawkins portion of the upside down was created by Will when he was thrown in. Vecna showed you can manipulate it to your choosing. Maybe Will panicking and wanting to get home created accidentally as a coping mechanism. Which explains why it is stuck in 1983 as he was first brought there.

I’m really surprised there was no mention here of the fact that Nancy realized that everything in the upside down was how things were in 1983, the start of the series. That seemed to me like a pretty big clue that they might have to pull a Back to the Future II and go back to season one and stop Vecna without messing up the timeline.

I personally got a “The Langoliers” vibe from the portrayal of the upside down in this season. Like it’s sort of how the “past” is degraded or decayed by the creatures in the upside down. Sort of like decomposers in the food chain but for time/space itself.

It's not everything tho. When Nancy enters it is but at the end of season 2 during the snowball scene you see it switch to the upside down and everything looks exactly the same. Even with the same cars. So i think it's possible, that the mind flayer can control time in the upside down

In the D&D game in EP1 S4 Dustin is rolling the dice to beat vecna, he rolls an 11 which misses.. They need a 19 to beat vecna. What makes 19 you ask? 011 + 008. too specific to be an accident if you ask me, i think 11 wont beat vecna this season however her and kali can!

20 is needed to defeated vecna which is one more. 001 helped both el and kali escape and also taught them how to be stronger (find something that makes you mad and channel it) so he indirectly helped beat himself.

During the circle competition Brenner tells them all not to rely on pain or sadness or they are certain to lose. (While eleven wins this competition I believe Brenner meant it in a deeper sense) Now using the painful memories works to access their powers and bring them out but the battle between 001 and 011 El is quite clearly beaten while using her painful memories.that is until until she pulls power from a good memory of her birth and mothers love that her feel happy and loved and then easily banished Vecna.

I think it's not that they're "in the past," I mean they're literally able to communicate with people in the present just fine so they're still on the same timeline. I think it's just that the Upside Down didn't look like Hawkins until El made contact with the Demogorgon/Mind Flayer, and that it essentially took a screenshot of the world that hasn't updated since. Maybe because the Mind Flayer tried to merge the worlds? Hard to say. It definitely didn't look like anywhere life ever had or could exist when Vecna was sent there.

The teacher got infected in season 3 or at the beginning of season four. With will being so far away he made for a terrible host. Vecna needed new bait. And used the teacher to attach himself to the real world. Her house has some form of significance.

I think the upside down is out of time and space and therefore it looks like the day when Will was taken because it still is that day. I definitely see us visiting the time when Will was in the upside down, with him maybe having these memories the entire time.

The time travel thing has been done so many times I really hope they don’t do that for s5. If we’re going off of the dice landing on 20 to represent 8 possibly coming back, that only gives you 19. And this is where I think Will will end up sacrificing himself because he still is connected to 1. The bit with Will reminds me of Harry Potter- HP was one of Voldemort’s horacrux (idk if that’s spelled right, just stay with me here k lol). He left a part of himself in HP so, Voldemort couldn’t die unless HP did. I think this is a similar situation here with Will and 1. So 11+8+1=20.

Also, Will was able to communicate through the Christmas lights that Joyce put up in the house, even though they went up after Will went into the Upside Down. Also, when Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve all fought the Demogorgon in the house and set it on fire, the mark it left was in the ground in both the regular world and the upside down

I don’t want time travel to happen in Stranger Things. Time travel is EXTREMELY paradoxical, and I feel like it’s way too complicated to just use it in a show as a plot device. A great example of the chair that time travel can cause is this German show called “Dark.” It basically demonstrates a world where time travel causes an infinite cycle of events, death and rebirth, etc. in the end, it’s revealed that stopping the perpetual loop from repeating would result in the destruction of that entire reality/universe. So if the Duffer Brothers were to implement the idea of time travel to Stranger things at this point, I’m afraid it would most likely only just make everything more complicated and chaotic, rather than drive the plot to a resolution and conclusion.

Dark is done extremely well. If you actually pay attention you can follow the timeline. Plus it has rewatch value because everytime you watch it you see or learn something you didn't before which in my opinion makes it better because I really hate when a good show ends and then there's nothing else to watch.

I disagree. I do agree with you in saying time travel can be overly complicated and dilute the whole storyline. But time travel, when done right, can be an awesome plot device. It can be relatively simple as well. Just because you referenced Dark doesn’t mean that any show that uses time travel is automatically going to be extremely complicated with multiple versions of one person being major characters, possible destruction of realities, etc. I will say that it’s easy to accidentally create plot holes and write yourself into a corner when using time travel, so hopefully the Duffer Bros. will have done their homework if this really is the route they’re taking. But I’m excited if it’s going down this road! On the other hand, I feel like all of the clocks appearing throughout the season could just be referencing One’s monologue about time. We’ll see!

A thoughtful story, true to cannon, and allows the audience to either figure it out, or not without pushing the boundaries of narrative shifting. The fact that the upside down is 1983 essentially every time someone enters the upside down they're essentially time travelling back to a frozen point in time. Maybe there is a way to use the portal/tares to travel to different times in the right side up/upside down.

In season 4 episode 6 when Eleven is playing with the Plinko game in the rainbow room and One is talking to her, she drops one of the pucks down and it lands in number 6 upright. In that shot, you can see 4, 5, and 6 are like that. 7 is missing and 8 is laying flat. A little further in that scene and one drops his directly down flat on 1 just like 8. Back in season 2 episode 7 you get the feeling that 8 is kinda bad and is using bad memories and hate to fuel her powers. One told Eleven that she needed to channel “something that made him sad and also angry” the same exact thing eight told eleven to do. I feel like eight and One are connected and that she will return. Me and my friends figured this out together

@@Dj_CaTz1 8 explains that she looked for eleven in the rainbow room and didn’t find her so she waited for her powers to get stronger and then escaped when she had the chance. It was really vague and it makes me wonder where they took eleven in the time that she was the little blonde girl we saw in the flashbacks in season one to the time that she was the little shaved girl we see in season 4. Was she going through testing, getting her head shaved and her tattoo? Probably but in that time, 8 escaped and has been going down the darker path. It could be possible she’ll come back but used by Vecna since she’s already using negativity to fuel her powers. Little details do add up but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

I totally missed that detail from the DnD game when they rolled an 11 and were defeated by Vecna! Anyway...awesome video...great attention to detail, especially in prior seasons. I do think time travel will be involved. I also really didn't think Kali would be back. I honestly didn't at all like her and how she tried to turn El against her loved ones in Hawkins (like saying Hopper was somehow bad for her) and get her to join her in a life of revenge...and was so put off when she wanted to leave because she didn't want to kill someone's father or be there when Kali did so herself. I think she *might* come back because I remembered the final episode is called "The Piggyback". I thought this would mean El is "piggybacking" off another one of the number's powers, but it would seem that Kali is the only one who is still alive. If they do use time travel I also hope that they don't undo the entire story and have, well, Jane never taken from her mother...it would be like everything she's gone through and worked towards in her life as Eleven and the relationships she's built would be for nothing. Very unsatisfying.

I mean if they time travel wouldn’t that mean that they’re basically erasing everything that happened in the show so far? So no gate to the upside down, no monsters entering the real world, no vecna’s curse. So this means that everyone who died isn’t ‘actually dead’ because they went back in time and prevented their deaths. Like Barb & Bob would survive cuz no demogorgon killed them, Billy cuz the Mind Flayer couldn’t have made it to the real world. Chrissy/Fred/Patrick cuz Vecna doesn’t exist (it’s Henry instead)

All the crossword questions are clues/easter eggs. Question 11 - Wife of Thor is Sif, and she is tricked into cutting her hair, that then turns into a magical helmet. Aka Eleven having to shave her head to wear the cables when she's in the water. A captain keeps one - compass, aka Dustin? The next is about rock and roll - Eddie Household cleaning product - Chemicals? Hopper? Question 34 - equal to 40 phons relates to sound and decibels, its the 'loudness scale' Uniform - relating to the kids in the lab? Flows through Germany - Danube river which I think is sometimes the Black river as it flows to the Black sea (maybe like the vines?) Relative to Ostrich- Emu? Not too sure about that one.

And I researched possible answers for the ostrich relative: (idk how many letters it needed) but a cassowary is the world’s most dangerous bird, has a claw that quote: rivals Freddy Krueger's, they’re known to have killed humans & another BIG fact: they’re most active at twilight! I have thought the show has had a very cylindrical feel. One thing I noticed was a conversation that Hopper and Joyce have in the first or second season, can’t remember which one, but he talks about making out with Chrissy Carpenter. Odd that his old flame’s name is Chrissy. Then Robin notices the music box and picks it up when they are in Nancy’s room in the Upside Down. When the kids are rollerskating the are going counterclockwise just like the clock Henry controls. I also feel there is a deeper connection between Will and Vecna. I think it’s possible Henry was gay and the reason they had to move was because of his feelings towards someone. In the 50s this would have been a HUGE issue and I actually wonder if his mother was looking into conversion therapy, like what happened to Alan Turing, who was possibly who Will was doing his hero project on. If this is the case it’s possible that Henry became susceptible to the Mind Flayer and that may be how he got his psychic powers. If as some suspect, Will is gay, then if he is rejected he may end up back in possession of Vecna and the Mind Flayer. Season 5 could be trying to get Will back once again. This time with a lot more difficultly, because of the isolation and rejection he’s been experiencing since season 3. So I feel the reason the Upside Down has gone back in time is because it all goes back to Will. He wasn’t killed like Barb because there was a recognition that he and Vecna share a common thread.

i think that in the final season 11 will die. I think that she is, in a way, a embodiment of a gate to the upside down and the monsters will be able to get through as long as she is alive. her void ability is the gate to the upside down. i don’t think she created the upside down, but i think she is the only one to have created a gate there.

The time stopped in upside down when Will went missing or when the demogorgan appeared in Hawkins. I think that it is all related to the mind flayer. And Vecna is surely getting a boost in his abilities through the vines which allows him to tap into a certain fraction of mind flayer's power.

I think your right on the cliffhanger. I think in the finale, 11 will go back in time and will try to undo what she did to 1. That'll back fire and make him "free"in the present world. "Piggyback" is a term for when one person "piggybacks" off the other...like if Eleven would "piggyback" off another number to enhance her powers. That's why I think it could mean Kali might come back. I don't think it means Henry is a "piggy" and is coming "back", if that's what you meant...but they might reverse time and he might be back, that actually could be an outcome.

when dustin rolled the dice during D&D, 11 wasn't enough to defeat vecna. however 11+8=19 and 19+1=20. 20 is what is needed to defeat vecna. 011 and 008 defeat 001. if 001 is vecna, why would he play into defeating himself? i think it's because 001 helped 011 become powerful enough and he indirectly defeated himself. i also think he helped 008. Kali says a lot of the same things to El to make her stronger like what 001 said to El to make her stronger. "think of something that makes you sad/mad and channel it" its as if 008 tried helping her too. and kali makes the dude with the mohawk see spiders, like henry/001's weird obsession with spiders. 001 has the same abilities as 008 and 011 combined so he indirectly trained both of them to be powerful enough to stop him. therefore 011+008+001=20 which is how they defeat vecna. also, owens said the nina project might not only get el her powers back but also make her stronger. ALSO also, kali has to be here. why would they do so much with her for season 2 just for her to never return. the very last shot of her was her looking sad out of a window, it looked like she wanted to run after el. she said el was like the missing part of her and el being there made her whole. i genuinely hope 008 comes back.

Time travel is essential to properly end the series. I don't think it'll be a "happily ever after" ending but if they use time travel, you can choose an event (or more) to undo a potential future. Think BTTF 2 when in 2015 Marty is working a dead-end job due to an injury to his hands. He's unable to pursue his music career. However, at the end of BTTF 3, he changes one variable. By not racing Needles he eliminates that future from occurring. Time travel in stories, if done properly, is amazing. If done poorly, well... it was good while it lasted. 😉

Remember Hazy Shade of Winter used in season one has the initial lyrics, "Time, time, time." I also believe it was Vecna stalking Will that night in season 1, as that creature hd the ability to move the chain lock telekinetically, something the Demogorgon has never been able to do otherwise. i agree. All this time, Vecna was the one stalking Will.. and the lights, demorgons could somehow make the lights flicker but only Vecna could make it glow so bright, indicating he's near. Also there were theories from s1 that he was actually looking for El, but apprently Will was the one nearby. I still don't understand Will's part in this season's lore apart from him being the first victim and atleast became the home of mindflayer for a sec. And the only thing that relates him to Henry/Vecna was they were both described as "sensitive child". maybe the reason the upside down looked like Hawkins in 1983 is because it was the only other time he got a glimpse into the real world. he hadn't seen Hawkins since the attempted escape when 11 pushed him through. it would make sense if he immediately modeled the upside down world after that iteration on Hawkins. present a corrupted image of a familiar place to further stress the victims maybe?

Some questions we need answered before we can conclude... Did 11 create the upside down? Did 1 create the upside down? Or hear me out... Did Will create the upside down? Or perhaps it's a sign that the end was near hints time stopping there being linked to Will. I havent seen much with him but he was so important that he was taken or chased into the upside down... Duffer Brothers confirmed that When 11 escaped the Lab in the first season, she was in a short coma and lost her memory, that’s why she didn’t know how to speak at first, since the Hawkins Massacre happened in 1979 and El escaped in 1983, I assume that there was something terrible happened to her and she decided to run away. Maybe she found out that Papa was not the one who she really thought he was, maybe he turned into a monster (aka Mind Flayer) and she had to fight with him to get free. But since she lost her memory, she wouldn’t remember any of that.

They really do focus on the concept of time so, I can definitely see them wanting to manipulate it especially considering all the indicators throughout the series. One prediction that I have for season 5 is that somehow they will expose the fact that Henry Creel never died and that Brenner kidnapped him, exploited his power, as well as, abused him, etc.. In doing so, they could connect all the murders to Henry. This would exonerate Victor Creel but, also may be a way of clearing Eddie's name as well the Hellfire club whose members are all in danger.

It may also be of note to point out the comic books, in which six (a small white redhead girl) can see the future where El's ultimate powers scare the everloving crap out of her so she escapes with 3 and 9.5 when 11's mom bursts in with a gun. And then 3, 6 and 9 all die to vecna (but according to the shows IMBD page, none of them are the same character at all, six is a young African American boy). When asked if the comic book was cannon in an interview, the Duffer Bros said "that is up to interpretation," and then they both laughed and looked at each other giggling. So, either the original 6, 3, 9.5 (the twin of 9 who had fire powers) come back, or 8 comes back, or 8 was off finding 6, 3, and 9.5 and that's why she hadn't joined in the fight earlier...It could get really interesting. Or like the joke from Steve about "the time travel movie where the guy tries to get with his mom" is how it ends with 11 going back in time too far, getting stuck there, and then giving birth to herself. lol.

Very impressive video ❤ and while I am NOT a fan of time travel, I have no doubt the D-brothers will not let fans down with their excellent writing! I'm NOT a big sci-fi fan. (If I can't happen, I'm not interested) When S.T came out, it was all the buzz, when I was told what it was about, I heard "upside-down, demogorgon, mind flare" stuff, I thought- "no thanks". But, being an 80's kid, I was so happy I gave it a chance! They have done INCREDIBLE! I love the show, HATE the super long time gaps in the awaited seasons... 😒 So, while I'm not a fan of time travel, I can say I am confident it will be awesome.... as long as they don't end up HAVING to kill all that's in the upside down, including themselves to do it. I do think we will see Kari- (eye roll) I just didn't like her character. With Netflix already discussing spin offs, I'm hoping 11 does not sacrifice herself, I am afraid it will be Will. When 11 tossed 1 into the upside down, the gate healed itself fast. What if Will's trauma was being used to "create a powerful psychic connection" that helped Vecna keep the gate open and why it expanded the longer it was open. More kills, Joyce and Will had a connection between the two dimensions, etc.

The strongest thing is the ending of Nancy's diary in 1983, the same time when everything begins. And knowing that he's collecting consciousness of his victims, all the creatures there could be changed persons that he collected that way, and shaped by his will and perception, and place them like figures on a chessboard so he could make contact more easy, and so free himself from his "purgatory." And we know that he's a chess player and he played chess with El in the Lab, in her memories. Woow, it's really mind blowing, and makes you think...🤯

One weird thing is when One is being thrown into the upside down, it is basically a barren land and monsters. But yet normally we see it in Hawkins. Well if One was thrown into from the Hawkins lab, he should arrive in Hawkins upside down, right? There is something sinister with UD really. S5 will tell a lot.
