Want to help plant 20M trees by 2020? Go to teamtrees.org #teamtrees
Huge thanks to all the KZbinrs who organized this. My apologies for the repost.
These videos are from 2012 so my interest in trees goes back a long ways. I think these videos discuss two of the most interesting and amazing facts about our leafy friends: they are made mostly of CO2 (which comes from us breathing out amongst other sources) and they can transport water up a tube higher than any we can currently manufacture. So trees are out to get you. But we do much worse to them so we owe it to them to plant some more. 20 mil is a good start.

@@barahng yeah. In Brazil and other developing countries most (between 75% to 92%, depending on the calculations) of all - that means accumulated HISTORICAL - deforestation is due to eating animal products specifically. Let's remind ourselves that more than 50% of all grain produced in the world is for animal feed. And let's not forget the huge pastures they deforest for... We vote three times per day for that to happen. Or not. Particularly in developed nations, as most of this production of suffering animals is for exporting to those countries. That's also a main cause of hunger for the one BILLION humans that doesn't have the means to eat enough calories to survive each day.

About 16 years ago I owned a tree service business. Used to see some strange things in trees. Was doing a full dismantle one day and when the top third of the spar went down, I was getting shot in the face with streams of water pumping out from the face of the cut. One of them shot a couple feet in the air. And it was a lot of water, each jet was maybe 1/8" in diameter, and there were several. I'll never forget being so amazed by the pressure it was under, blew my mind. Another 2ft diameter tree had formed a void in the center somehow; when my chainsaw cut into it, about 15 gallons of water came pouring out and drenched me.

U believe that sometimes, when there is water shooting out of a tree, you are witnessing the equivalent of an artesian well or spring, so the water is contained in it like the plumbing of a mountain spring. We have several springs around like that, like Saratoga springs. I've seen videos where water gushed out of the trunk, because it was connected to these springs somehow.
@richtomlinson7090
@richtomlinson7090 2 жыл бұрын
The one example you mentioned, may be partly how the Redwoods keep climbing. I've read that some water collects in the crotches and the leaf litter wedged in there and the tree develops little rootlets growing into these reservoirs high up in the tree, so maybe a cavity can hold some rain water up there. I love tree, and I'm a woodworker that plants trees, and mills logs with an Alaskan mill setup connected to an 066 Magnum Stihl.

THere's one step needed to complete the lesson. It's hinted at by at least one reader who noted that we get O2 back from the tree. You said so yourself. What stays behind in the tree, then? THe CARBON. It is then processed by the tree, along with minerals from the soil, (I couldn't guess the mechanism, but it's chemical) for the tree cells to produce NEW tree CELLS. THe tree may also keep some CO2 unprocessed, which adds some weight as well as reserves for when the sun doesn't shine enough to trigger all the reactions. THe other stuff you present in this recycled video amazes me utterly! Great video.
