USPS is not government funded. It is self- sustaining. Revenues cover operating expenses. Yes, USPS does take appropriations from Congress when it’s used for technology or infrastructure, but operating expenses (gas, lights, salaries, benefits) all come from what we make. That’s why the USPS is in between a rock and a hard place. Universal service but has to be self-sustaining financially. Sometimes those two things are at odds with eachother.

In the UK David Cameron privatized the royal mail so my advice to Americas on this is DON'T!

USPS is not the problem the problem is other private companies that will off load their unprofitable deliveries to USPS. Same thing with gov funded healthcare, private companies will take only those it can make money off of and give everything else to the gov.

@@benchoflemons398that's one way of thinking about it. The gov subsidizes the delivery rates for businesses that sends out advertising so they can make their trillions of dollars.

why would you take on unprofitable deliveries? that would come at the expense of the company. govt funded organizations can bear the losses because their perpetually bailed out by tax dollars. tax funded companies socialize their losses onto tax payers. this idea that if we label a service as "essential" that suddenly nullifies basic economics. those deliveries are unprofitable with the current approach but that doesnt mean if new competition were introduce, other innovations couldnt be created that achieve the deliveries but profitably.

@@benchoflemons398 well its more of a corrupt system where you have politicians being funded by corporations to make government institutions worse so these private companies can step in. The person in charge of the postal service is currently a guy who used to work for Fedex. So the person knows how to run a profitable business but its in his and his ex employer to make sure the government isnt doing a good job and is a drain in the system so companies like fedex can profit.

The post office is in the US Constitution and cannot be privatized unless there’s a constitutional amendment. I am an employee of the United States Postal Service, and I have to say, something needs to be done and needs to be done quickly. I hope they can find some answers to resolve this issue.

The PO was set up as a non profit entity. In the late 80’s the PO invested millions into small package processing equipment only to be sold of for pennies on the dollar to you guessed it UPS just before the internet market place started to build. Back in the early 00 the PO was in the black and planned to electrify their fleet since fuel and maintenance was a large part of their expenses. The oil industry was to have none of that so in 2006 Congress pasted legislation that said the PO has to fund the retirement of FUTURE employees, killing the electrification. PO General Louis DeJoy who’s financial interest lye with a private parcel service and connections to Osh Gosh Engineering, has been setting up the PO for failure since he was appointed. I know why he is still there but why the Biden or Obama administrations didn’t throw some influence over the PO board and get rid of DeJoy is a mystery to me. I can go on but if you made it this far, thank you, write your congressperson and say no to privatization.

USPS = United States Postal Service ****** its to provide efficient delivery everywhere for the nation, the entire purpose is not to be profitable, it is government funded, and subsidized for a reason! To provide reliable, cost worthy service..... if you take away the subsidies.... one of those 2 things change, the quality/ and reliability in which many forms of mail only get delivered via due to trust with the Postal office, or 2 the cost of the service for everyday Americans.
