You start the video by saying you’re not going to follow their directions and you’re not sure if you should use the microfiber pad. Then you use an aggressive “grinding” method that likely caused the “ticks.” You then finish it all up by not using a finishing pad. I don’t know, seems like a lot of this was user error. And to top it all off your thumbnail makes one think this stuff is junk but you spend half the video saying it works pretty good.

He was honest and gave credit where credit is due. This is something most professionals could use and still call themselves professional, however to take it to the next levels and chase the diminishing returns, you'll have to go with a true two-step system. As far as the "grinding" method, that was the only way he would have got the results he did in a reasonable amount of time. It's a technique that works and provides decent results that satisfy most. All most people care about is if the swirls are out and it's shiny.

I appreciate the content. However, how are you going to say something doesn’t work when you don’t follow the directions and use it “your own way?” That’s a little unfair. I’d love to see your test done side by side with that other product you use (never heard of it before so I’ll check it out) so I don’t know if they are the same price point either. The TW is meant to be finished with a finishing pad not another cutting pad so again you did it your way and not the way the manufacturer told you to. I’ve seen many other detailers review this with astonishing results and never had the issues you did while doing live details. They also used different pads to see which worked best for each vehicle instead of just grabbing “what you like to use.” Each paint is different and will require it’s own combo to get the best results. TW is also marketed for enthusiasts and pros which normally detail the average consumer not people driving 100k cars. Lol

Hi Nick, have you considered that the ticks may have came from your “grinding “ styles of compounding? Lifting the machine and going in at an angle like that is pretty aggressive. I see similar ticks when people use a 5” machine on curved areas on the car where they should be using a 3” machine. They have to go in a little sideways and it gets a little bit too aggressive to finish properly. Go in there with a 3” machine where you can get the pad flat on the paint and it’s solves the problem.

Wasn't thrilled at the style of the review but this is the second review of this product that has shown it just doesn't finish down as clear as a PROFESSIONAL would aim to achieve, it seems to leave holograms not matter how soft you try and finish off. Can any pro give me the name of a single product that can, you can use 2 pases with 2 pads. It's turtle Wax. It's a DIY job. But they do call it PRO and do say perfection so some of the review is valid. There is no miracle potion. Use a compound to cut and a polish to finish....

Jason! Sorry for not responding sooner. I hear you for sure. I think going after 1000 was my goal first and that was a pretty aggressive compound goal. I've tried it on previous vehicles and found h9 to cut better but I knew I could get it done with this combo I just needed to go hard. I'm sure someone out there can finesse this to polish out beautifully, I just didn't have much luck. It wasn't that I couldn't get out the compound haze, that went away with second step. It's just that final finish I can't seem to dial in with turtle wax

Then on the second step i used a 50/50 pad, and lastly on the 3rd step i used a black finishing pad to get that high gloss (104.1 from 76.3) then after prep i finished at all off with the turtle wax graphene product. In my opinion this is some of the best stuff ive ever used. sure if we could spend more time on it with other products and probably get it better, but being able to do a full car in under 3 hours and have everyone thinking it was like new was really nice!

Turtlewax 1 and done is pad dependent. Itnis actually extremely versatile! Learn to use it and you will be surprised it can get you the results from those 3 Koch Chemie bottles. Mind-blowing if you ask me, a 16 oz bottle for 25usd vs 180 for 3 koch chemie 1000ml bottles that are pad dependent as per koch chemie. Now let me just say, I have both and they are for different price point budgets. From TW one and done for a good paint enhancement to Koch chemie H9, F6,M302 for a multi step correction. 🔥🤙

There are few things to consider in my opinion. Have you ever seen the word "Military Grade" on a product? When you serve you understand that never a product that sales retail will be a true Military grade. The word "Pro" it has been misused for advertising purposes for God knows how long. I have not used the product yet...but I think this is targeted to a market of consumers who cannot access real PROFESSIONAL grade products...The weekend warrior does not want to pay $$$ for a professional grade product... He maybe wants his 2015 Camaro to look great but he won't be putting a flashlight to check every corner. I think...based on the video that this product will be great for that weekend warrior... I would have to admit that they should have not used the word Pro.... If they would have not used that word.... Would you have reviewed the product? Most likely not. The problem here is that as professional detailer you feel compelled to show your audience that Turtle Wax is using the Pro on a product that is not professional grade.

I changed my senders' identification after 10 years to show my support and respect for what TW has done for the industry. Then after reading your title and listening to your show, well, I just felt embarrassed for you. Numerous times throughout the presentation you are giving high praise for both products but then your title trashes TW. At one point you say "I'm pretty impressed with TW compound" or "If I had to rate the two, I don't know, I guess I would have to say they are two very good compounds" and yet you titled this video with TW is a waste of money? You have lost a lot of credibility with this video. But then you turn right around and try to imply how much greater Koch is by telling us how it has been your shops' goto for a year and of course, I loved your exaggerated facial expressions, and it made me think, maybe we should put you up for an Oscar. And then you continue and tell us of your technique that you think makes a better cutting pad which caught me off-guard, because when I listened to Brian, AMMO or Jason, they all express just the opposite; so who should we believe, you or the real pros in the business? Then you decide to ignore the instructions from the TW engineers and chemists who designed the product and the recommended usage techniques and instead tell us to use your techniques, well I remember what Dr. Beasley said about people who think so highly of their nonfactual based opinions and then try to prove they know more than the engineers and chemists who designed the products, you probably wouldn't appreciate it. It's fine to tell people on KZbin how good you are but it's another thing altogether to give out poor if not inaccurate information based off of your opinion vs. the best industry standards. I saw your earlier video where you were learning your new technique and that's great and it was also about Kock compounds and so it's understandable that you like a product, you and I are biased toward our favorite products, just like which cars we think are better than others. And I agree Koch Chemie is an excellent product, but so is TW's 1 & Done. There are so many different techniques I could use with my DA to bias any video to artificially show one product is better than another and of course like using a certain pad, that could be a whole other video. Using your techniques you showed us that Koch Chemie if graded on a scale, was about a 95 out of 100 and TW was about a 94 or 95 out of a 100 and that puts them both solidly in the A category. There seems to be a lot of contradictions in your opinions. Bottom line your use of click bait does not live up to your past videos.

Mr Kyle how are ya good sir. Have you had good results finishing this product down? I've tried every pad and polishing technique I could find (even before this video) using turtle wax. On the compound stage h9 finished beautifully and tw 1 and done had more MF haze. It's a good compound but it's not a magic bullet, one product and you're good kinda solution. H9 is a better "one step" product on many paints...but I would never use it to finish unless I was just trying to shine the paint with a one step. Koch doesn't pay me or give me free product either. I genuinely like their stuff. I do however appreciate you watching my video, and I enjoy the emotional responses. Car care and detailing is a passion driven industry and if I can give it I can certainly take it. I'm sure if we met in person we would shoot the breeze and have a beer but over the internet I suppose I fired the first shot so I'm not upset at the feedback.
@nicksdragon6929

@@HawkProDetailing it's pretty simple, the bucket that TW sends out has all four pads, as this product is identified as pad dependent system (which in reality every compound fits that description) the system is not technique dependent. TW sent their black finishing pad which gives you enough clarity that you could dive into it it looks so deep. You talked about how well you know Kock Chemie so you know what pad to use to get the most out of it and it's the same for TW, use the black one. Also sometimes I need to mist it with water and wipe with a damp MF. I also use the Rupes white pad or lake country black, then wipe off with a damp MF. Soft paints are sometimes tough to finish for a lot of reasons but this technique has been around for awhile. heat is the enemy and you're method is allowing heat to cause problems. But your success with swimming in Koch is obviously what you need to stick with. I always agreed if you have something that works, stick with it.

I've used this and had no issues, but I'll stick to the Sonax system. There isn't a lot of money to be saved trying to use one product for weak compounding and good but not excellent finishing. This could be the right product for you though if you want to buy two pads and one polish to compound out very light sanding marks and finish with the fewest number of products taking up shelf space. It's hardly a waste of money and it certainly didn't introduce any new defects.

Isn't Porsche paint on the soft side? In my experience it has been and so you might need to finish down with a softer pad, just a thought. Just to play devil's advocate here (and im not recommending the TW 1 & Done as its way overpriced here in the UK. The equivalent of $42) but I do think you would have been better off running that second step with a finishing pad for the 1 & Done rather than the Lake Country CCS yellow pad. There is just something about that platelet technology they use that makes it such an aggressive cut. In fact, for me, I'd have attacked that 1000 grit with the yellow CCS pad and then followed up with an outright finishing pad. I wouldnt use a microfiber pad with 1 & Done unless I was mowing down really. Would be interested to see what results you get if you have an old panel laying around you could try it on.

I appreciate the video. I have been thinking about a one and done for a while, so I decided to watch your video. I'm skeptical, since the physics of using one product for compounding and fine polishing just doesn't make sense. I've heard that the product breaks down, thus the larger particles (good for cutting) breaks down into smaller particles (for polishing). This is why I'm curious what the actual results are. I've watched videos where it sure seems like the user is being paid by the company. I could be wrong, but I don't understand how this product could be so good. For me, I do this on my own cars - I don't detail for a living. I'm in the auto industry (22 years strong) and I appreciate quality. However, time is a factor so most of my cars get Meguiars M100 and then wax. My Porsche does get M100, then M205, then wax - I like working with these products and I know what to expect, so I stick to them. Anyway, the reason I"m watching these videos is that I'm thinking about going to a one and done to replace my M100 then wax job. To save time and get a better result. I did learn a new technique watching you clean up the 1000 grit scratches!

good vid, my advice with the koch H9 is to turn the speed down a bit, esp because its diminishing, I found it breaks down too fast. I always use H8 with the rotary and wool on slow speeds but with lots of pressure. For the DA I really like the new Rupes DA coarse.

@@HawkProDetailing thanks for this. I am not a pro but have been using all kinds of products since I was 16; 55 years ago. I even used steel wool on a white 65 chevy one time out of frustration. It worked. So I am usually not afraid of anything but I am scared I really messed up (not repairable) my black front fender. I will update once I figure a way out of this mess. Worst case, I repaint the fender. I should mention the paint is 22 years old.
@gregkimura5906

@@anomalous9448 Sorry to jump in late, but I just watched the video for the first time. For the record, no, I'm not a professional, but I've been in the auto industry since 2002 and I have worked on a lot of cars. That being said, I hope you haven't given up on your black fender. I'm guessing you're talking about a single stage enamel paint. All is not lost! I don't know what it looks like, so I'm going to guess that the finish looks poor, but the paint is still intact and not burnt. FYI, I have a few cars with old single stage enamel paint, so I have my own method of polishing. I would hit it with 1500 grit paper (wet) and see how it comes out - watch out for high spots as you don't want to sand through the paint. If it looks okay, you're ready for the DA. My go to is Meguiars M100. I don't use a lot on the pad. Seriously, just small dots scattered throughout the pad - make sure you work it into the pad, then smear it on the panel. Use low speed and spread it all around. I use speed 5 or 6 and I keep the pad moving. I would use a firm pad (color doesn't mean anything as each manufacturer used different colors). You may need 4-5 passes to get the scratches out with medium pressure - but don't stall out the pad. Then clean the panel well. Next, use Meguiars M205 on a medium to soft pad. Prep the pad the same way as you did with M100. You can use speed 4 and less pressure. Try 3-4 passes and see how it comes out. I think you'll like the results. Meguiars M100 and M205 are very forgiving and you get a long work time out of them. Stop if you have dust forming! Other guys have their go to products. I am not the best at detailing, as I don't do it that often (though I should). That's why I use Meguiars and have for many years. For wax, I do like TW Hybrid Solutions (the gray bottle with the green streak). I also like the old Seal N Shine, but I think the Hybrid Solutions is better. And even though the new "Pro" graphene stuff is supposed to be their best, I like the older products better. Again, for me it's preference and stuff I've used many times. Good luck and let us know how your fender comes out.

Yessir, even in the last month I've moved away from h9 with microfiber and DA. It just breaks down too dang fast at high speed. I'm a big fan of rupes coarse DA compound for microfiber and DA, have you tried it? And less likely to use speed 6 on DA, Rupes pads perform better with coarse compound at lower speed... is what I'm finding. I'm using h9 on rotary now and quite like it, focusing on keeping speed down to keep a cut level for a longer period. I respect your experience, and I hope you -- like I do -- continue to learn everyday. It's one of my favorite parts about detailing

Auto Detailers generally have decent to top notch equipment and more expensive car care products. Hawk Pro says, the Turtle Wax 1 and Done is not bad but there is "Ticking". I do not plan on using a Rupee for cutting, polishing, and buffing, since I do not own a $300 to $800 machine. I'll be doing my work by hand. It is March 2024 and NAPA has 1 and Done compound for $10.20. I bought 4 bottles. I'm not going to be as knit picky as I just need a product that will do a better than average job without spending all day on the car. Did you know that 3M acquired and owns both Turtle Wax and Meguiars car care products. Wish everyone the best. Don't get too discouraged because not all product are made perfect just as no one is perfect. Humans are just fussy, finicky, hard to please, never content with what we have, so just do your best with what you have.

Based on Amazon prices, TW 1&D is about $52 for a liter. Koch h9 is $62 (on Amazon, but you can get it cheaper through detailing websites). $52 for a liter ain't cheap. That's the thing, it's not like this *dirt cheap* product that I'm taking some kind of pot shot at because I'm some fancy detailer who looks down at products available to the masses. It's pricey, branded for pros, and made by a ridiculously successful company... so I felt like it deserved someone giving it an honest review.
