ahhh... For us Brazilians (and Portuguese too) it is very complicated to understand the difference between the present perfect and the simple past too. With my degree in International Affairs, I need to complete the course with at least two different languages fluent than our native language (Portuguese, of course). I already have fluency in English, German and French already. With a PhD from the University of Cape Town I came into contact with Afrikaans too, it seems to be quite simple. I think the most difficult languages to learn, for those of us who use the Latin alphabet, are any languages that change alphabets, such as Ukrainian, which uses Cyrillic, Arabic language, among others... (you said you got in touch with Japanese , Taya, must be pretty hard too). All the best Taya, may all Ukrainians be safe, all Brazilians want peace in Ukraine. Until this 'madness' ends, I will immediately go to Ukraine to help rebuild your beautiful country.

As a Hungarian native having learned 9 languages (currently speaking 4 fluently), I hate to hear people shaming "accents". Like, come on, man, it's not like anybody can ust pick up a native accent even at C2-level of fluency. Language skills do not equal accent! Also, accent is beautiful! I especially love Slavic accents in both Hungarian and English from learners, by the way :D It's just so ... Spicy, I don't know :D Like, if I learn Ukrainian, even for decades, I'll SURELY have an accent. That is normal. And beautiful and unique, not something to be ashamed about. And of course, if the learner wants to, they can put more effort into getting rid of the accent, but for each learner, it might take anywhere between a few months to a year, and even then, not everybody cares about it.

Also, when I visited Odessa years ago, I went to a super market to get some groceries. The woman taking my money spoke to me in Russian and I asked if she spoke English. She did not. Another woman I met in a bar in Odessa spoke English very well so I asked her where she learned English. She said she learned it in school. So I don't know why this woman learned English so well but the woman at the super market did not.

Last week during a flight delay in Warsaw, I struck up a conversation with a young Ukrainian man currently living in Latvia. He told me he chose Latvia because over there they speak perfect English with no accent and he wanted to learn to do the same. I asked him why Latvians speak perfect English and he says it is because Latvia relies on international business in order to survive. I thought this was very interesting. He was very goal driven, having built his own technology business with Latvian employees and now expanding his business to Poland as well. I bring this up because of what you said in the video about Ukrainians being obsessed with learning perfect English.
