5.0 made my handmade hotend/mount print much better than any setting I could muster up in Prusa or super slicer. Super slicers bridging is always crazy no matter what’s changed, and you have to always do some modification object for that area. My main gripe with it (and Prusaslicer as well) is that multi-extruder settings are still really limited. You still can't choose which extruder starts a layer first. So if you have two materials it will always print , doing a 1,2 - 2,1 - 1,2 - 2,1. Can't configure it to be 1,2 - 1,2 - 1,2 - 1,2..., which often makes a big difference in quality. There is also no way to set which object gets printed first, you have to hack together something with the Z seam alignment. If I'm missing something please let me know!
@3DMusketeers2 жыл бұрын
I dont deal much with multi extruder printing so I am not really able to help on this one :/ We only have a single printer that is more than one extruder and it is hot garbage... Would like MMU painting in PS help with this?
@free_spirit12 жыл бұрын
@@3DMusketeers Sadly no, not really. Right now I have some work-arounds using macros in Prusaslicer's custom gcode tabs that allow to let me do what I want to. But I really think that these slicers would be tremendously improved by having a 'print this object's perimeters first' checkbox, or 'complete T0 layer first'. Multimaterial and multiprocessing is where a lot of innovation is gonna come from in the next few years I think. I may have to go to Simplify3D at some point for what I want to do, sadly. Srs though, the macros in prusaslicer offer so much functionality! Underrated feature!

@leeo.alexander23242 жыл бұрын
I have never heard of Varioshore until now. I Googled it and it seems to be similar in technology to the eSun LW-PLA. All I know is it foams at higher temperatures as the Varioshore does. And from what I have gotten from the videos that the LW-PLA has been around for a while too. I have no experience with either, so I would have a learning curve to get over if I tried either one. So now I have two options if I start my project of building an RC plane. Thanks for replying and adding to my CoC(center-of-confusion).

For lightning infill you wouldn't use the percentage option. It's more focused on creating a support for a to layer so the infill line distance is far more useful. I suggest 2-3mm, even larger number for PLA.

I don't see myself switching from SuperSlicer unless cura adds automatic calibration generation. I switch filaments a lot and supers built in tools make it really fast and easy to dial in settings for each filament. The interface in cura is also much slower tha super on my machine at least. I'll probably try Cura 5 when it leaves beta, but I'm in no rush.
@3DMusketeers2 жыл бұрын
That is the only benefit of Super over the others to me, but then again, most materials of the same variety perform the same. I think there is a lot of value to Arachne as well as lightning but people from Prusa have already stated they will be adding it soon, so keep an eye out for that.
@Sembazuru2 жыл бұрын
2 months later... Prusa has added arachne and lightning infill and is available on the 2.5 alpha2 (apparently alpha1 had some issues so alpha2 is the first 2.5 alpha public release). Big kudos to the Ultimaker team for both their hard work developing these, and for making them open source so other slicers (like PrusaSlicer) can also benefit from these features. EDIT: I had incorrectly identified the recent pre-release of PrusaSlicer 2.5 as a beta. That was my poor memory, it is an alpha release. But, I've been using it over the weekend and it feels about as robust as a beta release. I probably haven't stumbled across the bugs yet. ;-)

Great video. I know this is a late message. I've been using cura, prusa slicer and super slicer, I found that on some models each slicer produced different quality with the exact same print setting's, its why I used all three, BUT as of cura 5.0 all three slicer have removed the PRINT TO USB function from their slicer. From what I can gather a lot of people, myself included, found this feature extremely useful since we only have one printer and print when we need to print. The reasoning for this removal from the devs doesn't make any sense from what I can gather their reasoning is because it was buggy and the devs don't use this feature so the users shouldn't either even though it was very useful to a lot of people and a lot less buggy then the devs made it out. what do you think of this feature being removed.
@3DMusketeers2 жыл бұрын
It was never a feature IMO. Print over USB is asking for trouble. Be it PC hangups, restarts, windows updates, etc. SD cards work great. Want to print via USB, use pronterface to load the raw code. That is how you do it in PS. While yes, some people use it, it causes more problems than good from a devs perspective. I agree though they all produce different looks!
@TheStrangeSky2 жыл бұрын
@@3DMusketeers first even if it wasn't a feature it was a good usable function. second a well maintained pc shouldn't hang or restart, I have my pc set to ask to manually install and restart for windows updates. Third, In the past I have instances where pronterface has had connection issues but the slicer didn't and they worked perfectly fine. Fourth imo removing a function that many people found useful is not good especially if they are still new to 3d printing and or only have one printer and or only print when they need to print. 3d printing NEEDS to have functions that make it more accessible to print.
@3DMusketeers2 жыл бұрын
SD cards are the accessibility people need. Untethered printing is the right move. I'll verify it's actually missing and reach out to cura devs for an opinion here.

@@3DMusketeers I'm Sorry if I came across as rude or angry, that was not my intention. I'm Sorry. I think I need to clarify my setup a little. On the other side of my room I have a small table with my regular paper printer, it came with a very small cable, I already had a usb hub and very long usb cable and that's how I have my paper printer set, from printer to usb hub then to my pc. When I bought my ender 5 pro the only place I could put the printer was on that table, I wondered if I could connect the ender to my pc through the usb hub using a small usb cable, it worked, every time I turned on the ender it showed up in one of the com ports and it still does, all three slicers, cura, prusa slicer and super slicer were able to detect it and print to usb, especially with cura 4.2, I was even able to us the monitor tab at the top to monitor the printer. All three slicers no longer give me an option to print to usb or even detect the printer. THANK YOU for responding and trying to reach out to the devs, It means a lot. That is awesome. I print 20 to 60kg per month so have a lot of experience with cura. That new algorithm is a game changer. ¿How does lightning infill compare to just adding gradual infill steps?
@3DMusketeers2 жыл бұрын
it does it all on it's own and you do not have to worry. Lightning focuses on a good top layer so if your part can be hollow perimeters it will be great, but if it needs infill for strength or something, lightning is likely not for you.
