Since I was born in 1951 I have seen the history of both manual and automatic transmissions. Things have changed a lot over years. When I was a child the typical manual was a three speed column shift or a 4 speed floor shift on compact cars like the Volkswagen Beetle. At that time most of the automatics were 3 speed automatics or the 2 speed power glide transmission on Chevrolet cars. At the present day most manual transmission are 6 speed floor shift manuals, with some 7 speed Porsches. Also today there are 6 speed, 8 speed and even 10 speed automatic transmissions. I have also seen the decline in sales of cars with manual transmissions as automatic transmissions improved over the years. Because of my age I drove manual transmission vehicles when I was young. However for many years I have just been driving automatics. This works out well for me, since I live in a big city with a lot of stop and go traffic.

Wow bro that’s awesome. Here’s a prespective from a guy that lives in a 3rd world country, we here learn on manuals and most of us have manual cars and even if we did want an automatic at the end of the day the gas price is so high that we are better off with a manual car 😂

@Willham I mean it really depends, here most cars are like 1.0 1.6 1.8 so by nature they have a better mileage, here we also measure by km and liters so it’s a lil different to calculate but the gas prices here are so high bro that at the end of the day if it’s a manual or a auto your prob gonna cry when you put that gas in lmao 😂 (my country is Brazil btw)

When he said "...us enthusiasts" at 0:57, maybe that sums up the reason--"enthusiasts" may be a small percentage of current drivers. And new drivers often start to drive a few years later than previous generations, especially ones who live in cities and use uber and lyft to get around. Performance means so much less to them.

I made an oath to myself that as long as my left leg can work the clutch and my left arm can manipulate the stick shift I will always drive, or at least own, a manual transmission car. Being able to "feel" the engine do its thing is simply priceless to me. I also find it safer to drive a MT over an AT. I've almost fallen asleep behind the wheel on several occasions while driving back from work and if that can happen on a MT where constant engagement is required imagine what would happen if I were to drive an AT.

In the UK what happened in America in the 60s is starting to happen now. Up until recently most cars were sold with manuals and sold more in manuals. Personaly think that everyone should have to learn on a manual! Engaging is the key... these kids all wrapped up in thre smat phones will grab there phone bf they want to drive. So if having to move a car by engagement... having to step on the clutch and shift and row through gears, step on the clutch when coming to a stop keeps them kids focused! Less accidents bc u have to be engaged while driving! Its a chore to most ppl, but us enthusiasts dont even notice... except for the heavy traffic part! Save the manuals!

When I was learning to drive my family used to always tell me "why dont you try for a manual license rather than an auto one?" I wanted to learn the road rules first and always had clutch fear thinking that driving a manual was really complex. A few years go by and the auto EG Civic I learned to drive in was getting slippery in its transmission, by this time my manual bar on my little piece of plastic was gone so I though I'd go buy a cheap manual and teach myself to stick shift. Got a 2005 Holden Cruze (YG) for $1200, learned how to drive a manual and did my very first public road test in peak traffic (only stalling once due to lack of RPM on a hill start) and never owned an auto car since. I've got the manual bug, haha! As for the Cruze, it was the AWD model and I took it off-roading where I rolled it into a tree stump and crushed the roof in at the A-pillar making it unroadworthy so I sold it to a wrecking yard for $300 after removing all my audio gear.

The only time I find high quality AT fun or useful is when I'm doing a track day. Even then, it depends on the track and the car you're driving. For normal back road fun, 3 pedals all the way. I do agree, being stuck in traffic for over an hour with MT feels bad but I work closer to home since Covid so that isn't an issue for me. I was looking at the new Corvette but I guess they just made it easier for me to look for a C7 MT when the car market isn't ridiculous like it is now. On the bright side, I'll be selling one of my three 6spd and upgrade to a 7spd. Hehe.

I’ve owned 3 manuals. They do make you feel more connected to the car. But seriously, I really don’t care as long as the car is fast. I’m fine with paddle shifters. Yeah, it’s not the same. But it’s a trade off I’m willing to make for not having to deal with stop-n-go city traffic. And automatics are so fast now, why would I want a slower shift?

I have never owned a car… looking for a car… I want a Manual because it seems much more engaging to drive with than just pressing a pedal and going. I use my works vehicles from time to time, and I’m going to be completely honest, every time I go somewhere it’s kind of boring. I think that’s what’s put me off for the longest on getting a vehicle was that it was just a convenience to get somewhere faster but I didn’t truly enjoy it. Plus I’d be paying for insurance and the vehicle itself. Manual just sounds like more fun, and the modding community is really selling that point. I want something fun, so manual might be for me 🤔

To be fair and honest, Manuals are actually GEARED to lose these days. It's legitimately the reason automatics are getting more common in sports cars. If you look at the gearing of a lot of modern manuals vs the older manual transmissions, newer ones actually have worse gearing in terms of drivability. Also ELECTRIC ISN'T THE FUTURE... It's a near side note, but it sure as shit ISN'T the future. NO MATTER how much it's pushed.h

@@adelinogoncalves1180 I wasn’t sure either. I looked it up on google, and I got that the 2012 California and 599GTB were the last with Manuals. (Which would have been 3 years after the F430 was discontinued) I’m not sure where they got 2016 for this video.

It's fun and engaging to drive manuals but it's not fun in our country's horrible traffic situation. City driving is a nightmare for manual users. It's more prudent to drive an automatic.

When I bought my 3rd car one huge thing I wanted was that it had to have a 3rd pedal and I found only 4 cars and they are as follows 1. 2015 Toyota Corolla S 2. 2019 Nissan Sentra S 3. 2017 Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost 4. 2015 Chevy Cruze 1.8 I ended up buying the Sentra because the Corolla was sold before I got the chance to look at it and the Ford and Chevy were the last resort since I hate American compact cars

@@Swat_Dennis Offcourse, that's why i said they are taking over, more and more cars ar automatic when sold new, more and more People in europa prefer auto's, and with electric cars on the rise, it's game over anyways doesn't even matter anymore, manual shifting wil be good as gone by now and 20 years, the trend is set. Real cars are dying and it's sad.

I do wonder why Europe clings to the Manual while Asia and America have mostly moved entirely to Automatics. I personally would drive a Manual if it were more efficient because I don't drive much. But because it isn't, I drive a DCT automatic which gets 3mpg more fuel economy than the manual version of my car. In the cooking world there is a similar arguement between gas and Induction cooking. No matter how much more powerful, efficient, and faster Induction is, Many people still stick with gas because it is what they learned and feel it is more engaging to cook on a flame than to have a pan heated from within. In this case, I definitely cook with induction.
