While inspecting things are important, you need to understand that what they are really doing is looking for things they can fix and overcharge you on. For example, that engine air filter in the beginning is simple to replace by unclipping some clips and buying a new one if dirty. A lot of dealerships will take advantage of customers not knowing what an engine filter is or how easy it is to replace it and will charge $50-$100 sometimes for a filter which would cost your around $19.95 at most and a couple minutes of your time to replace. Even better, buy a reusable K&N engine air filter and you will save even more money over time.

@garrettstevensen2467 6 жыл бұрын
I agree 99% of everything what you said, except for the K&N air filter. OEM paper filters have very fine particulate filtration. Yes, the K&N does increase air flow, at the expense of dirty/harmful/dusty air entering the engine, acting like sandpaper.

I work at the dealer yes advisors don't tell the customers about the engine filters sometimes customer come to me For example dirty engine filter will cause running the car on rich fuel(burn more fuel) Clean one will run lean on fuel (More air and less fuel)

The torque wrench’s that Honda supplies don’t have to be set every time. The yellow torque wrench is permanently set at 30lb-ft for drain plug. It also prevents some one from over tightening the drain plug. Also this guy does not know how to use the torque wrench properly, you should only let the wrench click once. Pulling the wrench multiple times over tightens to increases the torque applied to the fastener.

Yeah, especially the garbage Acura dealership I took my 2001 TL to get my 02 sensor replaced. They were trying to rip me off of a tie rod, cv joint, and lied to me about my inspection sticker and the frame being rotted. The worst part is that the mechanic cut one of my exhaust hangers off in order to have my flex pipe separate so he can do more work on my car and get more money out of me. Even independent and franchise shops can rip you off. But the irony is, the Acura dealer was the only dealership that was trying to rip me off.

Husain Alkhamees true, but sometimes I let them do the oil change since it only $40 bucks. After the oil change they tell me what the cars needs. Then that’s when I save the money and do that work myself. For example, they told me one time I needed to change the power steering reservoir. I brought the car home and checked under the hood. Sure enough the reservoir was wet underneath. So I changed it out myself and saved money.

I have no place where I can safely jack up my car so I felt I needed to have the work done for me. My 2015 Honda Fit has had 2 oil changes done by dealer service departments. This car has a plastic shroud that goes under the engine. It is fastened with 6 Phillips head self-tapping screws, that screw into metal clips which have holes in them, and 2 plastic 2-part fasteners push-pin fasteners. It is held up in the front by 2 lips that simply rest on top of the bumper shroud. First oil change, the technician put one of the front lips above the bumper shroud, and the other underneath. Second oil change, the tech missed the metal clip with one screw, leaving the screw just hanging loose, and the shroud flopping loose in one spot. This dealer provided a "free 19 point inspection" during which the tech neglected to close the battery cover over the positive terminal, putting it at risk of being shorted out. He also checked the tire pressure and set them to 35 psi, even though the spec is 33. Not a big deal, 2 extra pounds. But he neglected to tighten the valve stem caps, risking loss of the caps. He just sort of started them on the valve stems, and turned them down maybe only 1/2 a turn - in other words barely turned down, very losse, and likely to come off after a few miles. He did this with all 4 valve stem caps!

I own a 2013 CRV and take it to the dealership where I bought it for oil changes. Why? Because every other garage I checked with charges at least $40 for full synthetic oil change (here in Ohio) and usually more than that (one major chain wanted $60!). The delearship charges $40, and they have a nice waiting room with TV and snacks. They haven't tried to sell me anything else. What's not to like? I used to do minor auto service myself, but I am older now and don't want to lay on the ground anymore. Also, a 5 gallon jug of the oil is about $30 and the oil filter another $6-7, so it is almost as cheap to let the delearship do it. Oh . . And I follow the mileage and car prompts for oil changes, and for me it is only twice per year. I am happy!

5 Gallons of Synthetic for $30? Thats damn cheap. Roughly 5 Oil changes for $65 with an average of $7 for oil filter. At $40 a pop at the dealer that'd be $200 which is a $135 savings over 50k at the standard oil change interval from Honda. Where do you buy 5 gallons off Synthetic for $30?

Nice to see he didn't use an oil wrench to tighten it. There is no need to prime the oil filter. Maybe a nine inch diesel filter that went straight up but auto is not needed. It will pump oil fast enough and there is still oil up inside. You won't get it all by the time your done draining. Many very expensive cars have canisters or are on angles where the oil would run out of the filter by the time you screwed the new one on.

the video. I have a question. Does it happen sometimes to you when you start driving after your car was parked for about 5 to 7 hours or overnight you start breaking slightly and your car breakers abroptly and hard? It happens on my Honda hrv 2019 and the car has only 700 miles! But then after driving 5 minutes more the car breakers normally softly and gently!

@aurvaroy6670 4 жыл бұрын
If that's the case, that means you're brakes are new. When you have new brakes, you don't have to press the pedal as hard to make it stop. And since you have 700 miles on your SUV, I'm assuming your SUV is brand new. New cars obviously have new brakes.

One of the frustrating things about having the oil changed by the Honda dealer is that they tighten the oil pan bolt back on so much that I have to use a breaker bar to loosen it when doing the next oil change at home. I’ve asked them not to do this but they do it anyway. The oil filter hasn’t been a problem. How do you know you’re actually getting synthetic oil at the dealer!

It is a common known fact that car repairers do not make money changing oil. That is why they pull your air and cabin filters, tell you the condition of your wiper blades and more. When my Honda says it is time for an oil change, I go to my dealers web site and use a coupon and it runs $29 to $39 using Honda filter, approved synthetic oil and a new drain washer.

What he did is reset the "maintenance minder" light, not the "oil" light. He said it almost right the first time, "the maintenance light." There is a red oil light in addition to the yellow maintenance minder light. It indicates if the oil pressure is low, and may indicate if the level is low. It is not something that can be "reset." "This car has no power steering; it has electric power steering." Maybe he meant that the car has no power steering FLUID? If the car has any disk brakes, one does NOT want to see the brake fluid reservoir filled all the way up, unless the brake pads are at new thickness. As the pads wear, as they have in this car, the fluid level goes down. If with the pads worn, the reservoir is topped up, then when new pads are installed, the reservoir will overflow. Very messy. Cars are designed so that as the pads wear all the way down, there will still be plenty of fluid in the reservoir. It will be above the minimum line, as well as below the maximum line. Tire tread depth should be measured on several points on each tire, several points along the width, several points around the circumference. In addition to tread depth, they should be inspected for evenness of wear. If any tires shows uneven wear, further diagnosis is necessary to see if it indicates a need for balancing, wheel alignment, or replacement of suspension parts such as ball joints or tie rod ends.

Go for a simple oil change then they lie to you About all the work that you need and of course it’s a safety issue to try to put more pressure on you to spend a lot of money and their service advisors get commission for everything they sell to you that you don’t need

Screw the dealer. My local one charges $30 just to rotate the tires. Dudes already have my car on the lift for an oil change, so why that much more just to air gun on/off the tires? You know damn well they don't use a torque wrench anyway. Even quick lubes rotate the tires for free with an oil change.

I got news for you folks. It’s not just at Honda they do this, it’s ALL the dealers that do this. Same thing. They’re very thorough and complete but in the process, can be expensive. Some maintenance you can do yourself such as inspections, windshield wipers, cabin/air filters, tires, and things of the sort. Have your tires rotated at America’s tires. They’re FREE! And you don’t have to buy tires through them to get the free service. Did you all know that? Just pay for a simple oil change service and major services every 30,000 miles and that’s it. I like to get the flushes done when they recommend it, but your call on that.

This is why i stopped going to quicky lube places. $70 for 10 minutes of labor. His only job was to change the oil and he didnt even bother check the dipstick (!) just dumps the oil in and then assumes the level is ok and then wanders off. Didnt replace the crush washer now it might leak so hopefully the next guy checks the oil level

I think they use bulk oil from a large tank not bottled 1 liter containers of Honda oil. They don’t check the air filter if it uses bolts instead of clips. They don’t use a torque wrench on the oil pan bolt. Sure miss not having a car wash with the service. Only takes them 10 minutes at Dealer and over tighten oil pan bolt. 😢

Why? They cost the same as independant shop. Honda dealer quoted me 180 to change front brakes and resurface rotor. Independant shop wanted 170 and who knows what parts they will use. I rather trust my car with ppl who work on the same cars everyday.

I had 2004 Pilot and they screw up oil cover threads twice and they kept told me it happened a lot. Each time I paid $400 each. They're rip off. Then they recommend a trade with new 2015 Pilot with trade in value on mine $3000 with 110000 miles on. I walked away and sold my Pilot $8000.

The reason why you should go to your Honda dealer is because you need to support a slew of people who need your hard earned dollars to make a living. Why should you save money and take care of your kids, when you can spend money and support your local car dealership! The guys spoke about everything but... the oil change. I guess, there is not a whole lot to changing the oil, so he wraps up his 10 minutes job with 30 minutes worth of smoke screen. 5000 miles until the next oil change? really! with synthetic oil you can go eight month without an oil change.

Honda dealerships don't even change the oil filter at every oil change. The say that it is recommended by Honda that they change the oil filter every other oil change. Screw that, change your own oil that way you know it's done the right way.

First let me say that I have let local top flight shops work on my SI, and they have caused more damage than my teen drivers. I had struts, rotors, pads, tires done all around and an oil change by a local shop. Everything had to be done correctly by the dealer because the shop, which did have a good reputation messed everything up. !.Tires, 5 balance weights?? 2. Oil filter on so tight that it spun the receiver out of the engine 3. Struts needed a replacement cartridge, they tossed the struts and put the wrong replacement ones on(They had to drill out the strut tower to get the after market to fit) The car would make a clank and a bang while driving, they tried to convince my wife it was normal. 4. The brake job. What a joke. I wanted all 4 done with new pads and rotors, and I wanted the system pressure bleed when done. The car could hardly stop. 5. The guy broke the glove box door off and pretended not to notice. 6. Dump and flush all fluids This is a nice car, and it needs to be correct for my wife and kids.We took it to the dealer and had everything redone correctly $4200.00, the struts were $1500 and had to be special ordered for the SI, not available off shelf.The clunk bang was the strut bearings, turns out the shop felt they were not needed, so they were missing. No bleeding done for the brakes, wrong rotors on the front, the dealer informed me that I needed rear brakes and rotors. I told him all 4 were done he showed me the rear as original pads, and rotors. The tires needed re mounted and balanced, and all of the fluids done by the Top local shop were incorrect.Long story, made short DO NOT LET IDIOTS TOUCH YOUR TRANSPORT.

At 1:52, Peter Griffin (I mean, Steven) allows the end of the air hose to smack the wheel. Around 4:00, he says they'll do "another torque with a manual torque wrench". By then, it's too late because the lug nuts have most likely been inconsistently and excessively torqued following the use of the "torque sticks" that are seen lying on the workbench as part of the "special Honda tool assortment".
