Good quality charcoal does work as a broadband absorber. I tried a few boxes filled with charcoal in my listening room and there was a definite difference when measured using REW. (Biggest benefit was ~125hz where my primary room mode) Yes, charcoal absorbs moisture over time. Put a bunch of it in an oven at 125c (covered of course, to prevent them from catching on fire) for an hour or so and the moiature goes right out.

Using over the counter carbons that are used for water and air filtration will not last inside a diaphragmatic absorber. If the carbon is not treated for moisture retention, the carbon will absorb moisture and performance decrease dramatically. Over the counter carbons also lack the proper pore count, size, along with the required granule density.

Thank you. Now, how do we get the people to work harder to understand more, so they will not be misled. That is the real core issue.

@@AcousticFields we’re gonna show it in live action on film for the people! Insulation fill vs carbon fill. And full with/without treatment demo vid with my fully modular setup plus different unit placement/arrangements. Jam packed with music and squiggly lines (frequency response measurements). Folks will love it!

Very interesting stuff. Diatomaceous earth huh? One of my chores as a teen was cleaning the (Doughboy) pool filter. It was full of white, wet, gritty mud. Thanks for your videos.

DE was one of many internal cabinet fill materials we have tested. Nothing compares in performance to activated carbon. It was the number one performer and exceeded the performance of the second place material type by 20%.

Thank you for your kind words. Our goal is to try and make the complicated simplier. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we do not, but I always keep trying.

Question: How you calculated absorption in frequencies below 125 Hz? in Lab? Would be great to see Test Report. Thank you.
