@@September2004 messier was such a good leader that his teams missed the playoffs in his last 7 seasons. both teams, van and nyr, made the playoffs the season after he left. the latter routinely had the league's highest payroll while he was there. messier is to leadership what mike babcock was to coaching. in both cases, their egos make donald trump look humble by comparison. yes, messier was a good player. but he was also an arrogant asshole, as a player and as a person. quite honestly, he still is. and his flavorless lay's chips suck. he waltzes into vancouver, disrespects wayne maki's family, drives out every player the fans loved, gets his butt-buddy keenan hired, declines as a player, and leads the canucks to their worst run in franchise history. he whined like he was pierre-luc dubois. he can go fuck a cactus. i was never an oilers fan, but at least i can respect guys like gretzky and kurri, and mcdavid and draisaitl. i cannot respect messier. he is an asshole of the highest order.

Messier's Canucks years were a real "Mess" to put it mildly. The insistence on being #11 after Canucks had retired it for Wayne Maki, shows that Messier's ego had grown so great he had lost all sense of reality about being a Canuck. Management was equally to blame for allowing this inexcusable lack of respect for hockey tradition. Once a number is retired from any NHL team, that's it. You wouldn't go to play for Detroit and demand Gordie Howe's #9, or Oilers #99, or any other NHL team. The Trevor Linden incident and other things about Messier's arrogance, huge ego, grossly inflated contract and poor performance as a Canuck, was nothing but a black hole in Canucks history. Messier really pissed off the fans and that's something no NHL player can ever get away with, on any team.

Mark Messier's legacy is truly divided like a two-sided mirror! Arguably no NHL player have made himself so divided among fans. One side reflects his merits and leader qualities that goes beyond many of the best captains ever in NHL, and even the NHL introduced the "Mark Messier Award" for best shown leadership on & off the ice. Having Captained 2 teams to Stanley Cup championships in both Conferences (first ever) and became like an iron-man to play year-after-year to age 44! Having been regarded early on at best a mediocre PRO tallent, who fought on to one day establish himself not only as a better, then a mediocre player, but a top level player and even elite level! BUT... The other side reflects an uggly portray if Mark Messier. The one of a dirty player who was as individual tallent overrated = was only good when he was with those strong teams he won with. How greedy and money grabbing Messier gradually became, demanding insane salery + bonuses + benefits + salery insurences at advanced age of 38 AND to wear retired number 11# - And somehow, for no sane reason a team (Vancouver Canucks) AGREED and SIGNED ON the demands (?). That he soon also aquired the "C" captain role from a fan-loved icon (Trevor Linden) and then throwing salt to the wounds that same player gets disrespected, humiliated and oppressed to finallyu getting sent-off in a trade to the non Cup contender NY Islanders. How despite the insane amounts of tallents on the team, and Messier manages not only to not score impressive numbers on the ice, but also act silent and uninterested in leading his team, a team in great need of a stabile and inspiring leadership. Then is also the part of a rather seen "mutiny" in the franchise by Messier and new GM Mike Keenan. By getting the team gutted from its tallents to bring in players not needed (especally the goalie changes) and the team plunges into 4 years of darkness. And when Messier leaves the team in 2000, he decade afterwards demand $millions despite never lived up to anything of promises and expenses all he was given - and gets those money in court. So if you are a Oiler or Rangers fan, you love him - If you are a Canuck fan, you despise him! If you are neutral, you have a tough balance of the edge that is constantly wobbling as you look on all perspectives and goes back- and forth..

Ok , this the first view of your content and I have some mild criticism. 1) FIrst, I get that you are a kid & just don't know. However, Messier did not "guarantee" a win. Likewise your hyperbole about such was way over the top. It helps to read the actual article before comparing Mess to Babe Ruth 😂 Messier gave an interview where he was hyping his team in a must win road game. He listed the positive artibutes of his teammates & finished his thought by stating "That is why we will win". So the NY Post runs the salacious back page headline as "We will win". The post turned in a offhanded comment about his teammates into some sort of "guarantee" Joe Namath was a guarantee. 2) MOST IMPORTANT 🌟 I really enjoyed the content. Very well done EXCEPT you simply must educate yourself on the term "VOCAL FRY". As much as I enjoyed your video I almost turned it off because your low energy vocal fry is absolutely cringetastic. If you insist on narrating yourself please educate & practice proper vocal production techniques. Educate and practice. Knowing is half the battle....

Mark Messier was a great leader, whether Vancouver fans can appreciate that or not. I followed his career very closely, living in and near Edmonton my entire adult life. But Messier undeniably has a big ego and it's entirely plausible that his ego caused him, and the Vancouver Canucks, a lot of grief. While Wayne wore the "C" during most of his time in Edmonton; Gretzky, himself, claimed that Mark was the undisputed team leader in the Oilers' dressing room behind closed doors. The coach knew it, Gretzky knew it, and the team knew it. But the Oilers won five Stanley Cups by having one of the greatest teams of all-time. Messier did lead the Oilers to a fifth Stanley Cup without Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey. A subtraction of two such high calibre players in any team in today's NHL; including today's Oilers - think Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard; would gut any current team and take them out of Cup contention. That is how good that 1987 Oilers team was. And Mark didn't get the Rangers Cup until coach Keenan and G.M. Smith got five other former Oilers on that Rangers' team, including the best linemate Messier ever had in Glen Anderson and the only other Oiler to have his name on the Stanley Cup six times, defenceman Kevin Lowe. That Rangers Cup winning team was heavily influenced by the 1980s Oilers dynasty as evidenced by six former Oilers playing on that team and Mike Keenan having lost in the Stanley Cup finals while coaching his Philadelphia Flyers against those great Oilers teams. The Vancouver team that Messier joined was not the equal of the 94 Rangers, never minding the Oilers dynasty teams, particularly when Gretzky and Coffey were there. One player is still one player and it may be that Pat Quinn just didn't know how to deal with someone like Messier. Trevor Linden was a great player in this own right, probably my favourite Canuck player, but Linden was laid back, Messier is anything but, and very fiery. But I still think Messier was more of a leader than even Gretzky. Wayne was clearly better than Messier offensively but Mark was the better two-way centre by far. I still think Wayne Gretzky is the best player to have laced up the skates but Mark Messier is the greatest leader the NHL has ever seen. All this being said, I don't blame the Canucks' fans for not liking Messier as it appears he did treat them very poorly indeed and he likely let his ego get in the way of any sort of possibility of a productive relationship with the Canucks' team and fan base.

yes people hate him cause of ONE short stint with the canucks which to me is a joke. He spent most of his career either with the oilers or the rangers
