This game looks really good. Likely a good thing to play since I just finished metaphor and want a new turn based rpg. I really value the unique visual aesthetic and instantly love the art after seeing an ad for it so this looks really good for me. Im ok with the trade offs you mention. Im gonna buy this on my ps5. Thanks for the review. The segment near the end where you talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the game helped me decide. The three things you listed I care about the 2 downsides I don’t care about. In fact, the roguelite thing not being as advertised is probably a plus for me.

Yup $20 and 5 hours later I can reiterate that this review is fantastic. The VA work was definently my biggest issue and the only extra complaints I have personally is that the story has weird jumps in how certain story beats land and happen. Still overall very charming and while it’s not the best experience it was a good one and well worth the price of a movie ticket.

Yes, I think the rhythm of the story is somewhat messed up because they included the portals. It's hard to explain to other people until they play it, but traveling into a portal is like leaping into the unknown. We don't really know which portal is the most linear "canonical" portal to take, so we end up forced into a position we didn't want to be in yet lol

1 hour into the game and i'm hooked. Voice acting is great, combat mechanic is similar to Brutal Orchestra

Decent review. Was checking this game out on Xbox and this is the first review I’ve found that didn’t harp on all the negatives like gamerant. I enjoyed the fact it also was to the point and very succinct.

From what I can tell, it only has full screen and borderless, but borderless doesn't let you resize. So I don't think widescreen is an option. 🫤

I have invested many hours in this game since release and the more I play the more convinced I am, how wrong this review is. It is not about taste in a game, it's about sharing incorrect information about the game, like "choices don't matter (much)" for example. Reviewer, take good note, there is no game out there where choices matter so much like in the game and every choice you make has a significant impact on the story that has multiple paths. This game is a gem, it plays like a movie. The battles require a lot of planning on how to attack and how your attack influences your position for your next attack or for the enemy's attack. What I also like a lot in this game are the events, these can help you in many ways or they can curse you in many ways. Lots of interesting people or creatures to meet. I have played enough to score this game a 9 out of 10. I am not trying to change your opinion but please don't share incorrect information. If you don't like the game, it is fine.

This looks like a mismatch of talents in the people who made this game. The artist and environment/level artist are amazing, not sure if that's the same person, game designer sucks, you said voice acting also sucks, can't tell about its writing or whether the story is any good, and won't find out, I'm not gonna play a game with those gameplay mechanics, very few people will. I really think they missed a great opportunity there though. They could have included those strange gameplay mechanics in certain few parts of the game, and it'd be great. But the whole game? Nah. Missed opportunity, they could have built an amazing game if they had one in the first place, all they had was amazing artists. Those cutscenes though are unbelievable, the whole hand drawn art of the game, and there are games out there where they used a graphic novel in a complementary way, and they were great cause they done it right.

Sorry but when I hear you talk it makes me wonder if you really played the game, let me correct you, but first, why are the graphics so ugly on your PC I guess, are you playing on a commodore 64? 1. The VOs are very good. 2. Who says Persona sets the standard? This game has a really great battle mechanics where strategy is a must, you can't just attack without thinking. 3. The Graphics are beautiful at least on my Switch Lite, your graphics look awful sorry, no heartfeelings. 4. Great monster designs, and varied not like Metaphor with limited monsters. 5. Story is pretty good. 6. Music is amazing. 7. MC is great, no dumb silent. Are you trying to make people not playing this game with such a poor review? The fact that you compare a totally different game versus Persona shows that you got a long way to learn on how to review games. Take this as an advice not as a critic.
