One of the major issues I have with this dungeon is the visual clarity of the lightning strikes at the end is yellow on orange, which makes it nearly impossible for me to see it coming in the middle of a firefight and the damage ticks are so high that you can instantly die even if you are in the middle of regenerating health. I have even died while healing with a healing grenade, at max health but the lightning still instantly fries me before I get a chance to react. I have no issues with the actual lightning, but yellow on orange is terrible for visual indicators. They should have chosen a darker color to contrast. I'm sure more practice will make us all better and the community skill level will eventually adjust to match the dungeon, but the mechanical difficulty is starting to approach raid levels of absurdity. Warlord's Ruin was just about right with the level of mechanics to juggle during the boss fight, but here, it feels like they took it almost a bit too far with multiple mechanics required to even get to the final boss' damage phase and if you do even a single mechanic incorrectly, it is almost assuredly a wipe. Personally, I despise exploder enemies. It is a cheap gimmick. I have died to explosions from shanks, laser traps, and supplicants too many times to count and not just in dungeons. Even in the Legendary Campaign for The Final Shape, the hardest part for me was that one room with all the silly laser traps and exploding shanks. The Witness in the campaign was easy in comparison.
@fissilepear78052 ай бұрын
I agree, the lightning strikes are also wildly inconsistent due to jank code. I have been multiple meters away from a strike and still insta-died due to the net code lagging from so much going on. Additionally, Vesper's host is the one dungeon I have felt required to use a mic in. Every previous dungeon at most I've had to communicate in text chat a couple times to clarify with teammates. With Vesper's I have to be in constant communication with my teammates in order to complete the mechanics which is especially true for the final encounter. If I want to play a raid I will play DSC, I've always felt dungeons shouldn't require that level of communication and that dungeons should challenge you more dps and intuition wise rather than mechanic wise. Despite this, I do like Vesper's I just feel like its mechanics fit better with something like a raid lair rather than a dungeon. Regarding exploder enemies in the dungeon, the only time I've felt it was a bit too much is with the servitor boss when it teleports you up into space. It feels like Bungie just spammed exploder shanks up there which isn't fun, it's annoying and takes away from that part of the encounter where you should be focusing on the tracer shanks nearby as well as completing the suppressor mechanic.

I also struggled at first with the lasers, the main thing i learned over my solo experience(as brief as it was) Is that the lasers are SEMI random, they typically follow a couple to a dozen set patterns, the random part being the laser that lands ON TOP OF YOU. if you can make a mental note of the common laser spots and what pieces of cover you have, you can set yourself up to have your personal fuck you laser land the same place as a set spawn laser, and suddenly its like you were never targeted. Of course it wont be easy to learn because you have so much stressing you, but the easiest thing you can do to avoid the difficulty is just letting go. not giving up, but simply not worrying about the failures or being mad that you died. Let it get to you and you WILL be miserable. you dont need to be. I believe you can do it, itll just take time

But it is good to know I'm not the only one having trouble with the colors, it appears to just be a general problem and not my color-blindness.

I think Vespers test you differently from all dungeons. Ghosts is an endurance test that needs you to remember symbols and is long, but there are a lot of ads and you can stack buffs easily. Warlords is ad heavy, but you have stuff like restoration to counter it. The way Vespers is made is it restricts you from constantly running something like healing like in Warlords, but also isn't overwhelmingly long like Ghosts. It tests how safe you can play, by using super risky attacks, enemies etc that can kill you so quickly, and unforgiving mistakes. One of the most fun solo flawless' I've done, certainly the most challenging.

I really like this dungeon, I fell in love with it the first time I ran it with a group and it’s easily become my new favorite. However my issues lie with trying to run it solo flawlessly. I’ve ran into so many bugs and glitches within the dungeon that’s messed up my runs and has caused me to put my attempts on hold until they are addressed or fixed. I’ve had the operator vandel not spawn in the initial room in the puppeteer and had to wipe, I’ve had the ball not pick up even when the circle clearly shows I picked it up, scanned not dunking immediately and taking an extra second or two resulting in me getting overrun with radiation and dying, and many other things. Don’t even get me started with the lightning, I like the constant moving around but they are wayyyy to frequent and way to punishing. Plus they’re hard to see on with well or sun spots making dying to them even more annoying. I really want them to keep making dungeons like this but please try and get these types of bugs ironed out sooner.

Managed to solo it last week, though not flawlessly just yet. The final boss took me several hours over the weekend. For me, the hardest part, as you said, is the unpredictability. The only dungeon I soloed flawlessly before was Ghosts of the Deep, which the community considers hard-ish, but I had no issues due to exactly that - predictability. I know how to execute every step in the fight algorithmically, and 95% of the times things go according to the plan. I actually find the first boss there a bit harder than the second, because the space is much smaller, the knight sometimes can rush towards you, etc. With the wizard, if something doesn’t go well, you can always hide in the water areas and chill for a bit. Now Vesper’s Host, especially the final boss, has SO MUCH unpredictability. The radiation clones sometimes will relentlessly chase you into a corner. Scanning can be either pretty easy or pretty spicy. The lightning is indeed crazy and forces you to be on the move, and you still have to worry about clones, about getting the bomb, while potentially being rushed by clones if you didn’t manage to kill them. I once died because I got struck by lightning on the way to the bunker while carrying the ball! But I gotta admit, it’s a very fun and intense final encounter.

I’m proud to say I managed the solo flawless of the dungeon only 6 days after it launched and yeah, this dungeon was simply not a fun solo flawless and honestly I got it done more out of spite. Biggest issue I have is the visual tell of the lightning in the last encounter as it’s so hard to tell where strikes are at in the heat of the moment. It really doesn’t help that the ambient lighting is the same color so it blends together super easily. Just hope that going forward we look at scaling boss HP to fireteam size if the mechanics are going to be this punishing.
@ForeverLaxx2 ай бұрын
There are two major issues I have with soloing this dungeon. The first is that it really seems Bungie is stretching the definition of "soloable mechanics" about as far as they possibly can, leaving very little (and sometimes no) room for error or delays in execution. That leads into my second issue which is Bungie's general problems with AI pathing. There are so many broken platforms that the AI has problems navigating them. I can't tell you how many times I had to restart the first encounter because the Dregs would teleport around the platforms due to the game failing its viable pathing check over and over. I kid you not, I had a Dreg teleport behind me every time I turned to shoot it, wasting 15 seconds of my time and causing that run to fail due to not getting to store the Scanner buff in time. Even in the intro "encounter," the vandals holding the buff would just mysteriously teleport to the other side of the room despite there being no obstacles outside their spawn door. It's extremely frustrating to deal with this when you're on a strict timer and being peppered from all directions so you can't recover.
@Shinybook512 ай бұрын
Strong breakdown, I think you put it quite well and really did a good job examining the specifics of how certain elements of encounter design contribute to overall difficulty. I do agree that this dungeon's solo flawless is by far the most punishing of any I've done, with it feeling almost like a raid at times. Bungie really knocked it out of the park with the combat challenge and I'm really excited for future dungeons now, more than I've ever been.

In regards to mentioning the puppet clones and their radiation bs. There's 6 total when you drop down. If you kill 1 they re-spawn 10 seconds later. Like if some are inside the room when you do the purge they'll spawn some where else and eventually make their way towards you. If you keep moving they can't/won/t follow you. However, once you stop in one of the rooms to do mechanics they'll find you a bit faster. ATP did a guide and suggested to remove the radiation BUT do not kill them so they are basically harmless.

As a Warlock main that has done all dungeons solo and a few of them flawless (PoH, Duality and GotD), even though I never cared for solo flawless because I "don't have the time in my everyday life", I can agree that Vesper is among the toughest to solo flawless but I actually find it almost a cakewalk to just get a solo run. I'll give you my strat: first step Prismatic Nova bomb with Bad Juju+Skull of dire Ahamkara and ball dupe cheese; second step, Rime-coat turret build, Nova bomb and Wardcliff Coil; final boss Star-eater/Necrotic exotic bond, Nova bomb and let Anarchy do the rest, easy easy three phase. These are the builds I found myself more comfortable with all throughout. I'm sure that, with some more practice, I could solo flawless it, as I've got to last boss with no deaths a bunch of times, yet I'll never try that because of the amount of glitchy bullshit I've experieced in my solo runs, IN. EACH. DAMNED. STEP. 1st encounter Operator and Scanner didn't work and I had to backtrack, enemies I already killed respawned and I had to redo the entire section. 2nd and 3rd encounters both softlocked me once: I reached Raneiks final stand, so the mini servitors were supposed to stay divided and be killed, yet the game decided that damage phase was over and the boss should reunite with the immunity shield, which resulted in me being unable to deal any damage to the mini servitors, since they were immune but they wouldn't reform the big boss and start another phase; final boss, after damage phase, I return to the main arena but Scanner is nowhere to be found, even though the game told me it spawned. It did, downstairs however! So all I could do was getting Operator and trying my luck shooting at one of the four numers. As I said, last boss damage phase is actually not that bad once you get into the flow or the dance. I tried Stag+Well in all weird spots to deal sustained damage with snipers or Grand Overture, yet I couldn't manage to stay alive, so I threw that stat away and decided I'd rely only on dot damage from Lost Signal+Anarchy, while being Transcendent and nuking the boss with usually 3 buffed Nova bombs per damage phase. Devour also works best here, even better than Resto x2, to my disbelief. To end this stream of consciousness: in a world post Resilience buff and Solar 3.0, Bungie has to come up with different types of challenges: something as stupid as dunking a ball in PoH could have been hard back in 2019, with all the enemies around, while now all that's needed is a healing grenade. Today, the same dungeon would definitely have a wipe mechanic if the three balls from the final boss's arena aren't dunked in a specific order/in the proper totem. Still, me, a fervid Solar Warlock, born a Sunsinger back in 2014, I found myself going for Devour instead of Resto x2 in Vesper's Host. My main gripes with the solo flawless run are the fact that the first boss will take you at least 4 damage phases if you're lucky, if you aren't on Titan, and then the fear of softlocks, since I've seen those with my own eyes. Timing is relative in this dugeon, compared to Duality and GotD, which I consider the hardest dungeons to solo and solo flawless. Even Warlord's Ruin was a toughest first experience for my solo runs, I died way more often and wiped so many damned times at 2nd step, which was a real test of patience with that stupid boss, tbh (I ended up doing that whole dungeon with Karnstein Armlets for constant Resto x2). Maybe the 10-ish hours me and my clanmates had to go through for the contest day one clear have strengthened me, so that's why I think this is a more chill dungeon to solo, compared to those other three I just mentioned, while solo flawless is definitely the most demanding for sure!

My gripe with this dungeon is just the near unavoidable damage during required interactions. Particularly when dividing the servitor, and also while dunking buffs in the red/blue room. Sure I can use suppressor through the wall or some tricky spot, but I doubt that's even intended. Running up to deposit buffs in red/blue, get sniped, get sniped twice while dunking, and ge sniped again while trying to get to cover. By then, I'm already in the red. 1-2 more snipes and I'm dead while the radiation boys are stepping all over me. All other dungeons I can run anything, but this dungeon feels HEAVILY tuned to try and "get you" with such things. Only other dungeon that really has this is Ghosts. Ecthar will pretty much 1 shot frisbee you the moment you start damage, so you better have something to nuke his shield to pull him out of super (arbalest), and grabbing deepsight during the final boss is almost suicide with the boss shooting at you. The explosive shanks I've figured out though. When they're killed normally, you'll survive an explosion. If they happen to "prime" before you kill them where they slow down a bit and beep louder, they'll self detonate the moment they're in range and 1 shot you, regardless if you land a killing blow or not. Solution is just turn around and sprint away while using the boxes for extra height if needed. Backpedaling with 100 mobility while jumping from ground level isn't going to save you. The shanks will then disarm and you can go back to shooting them. Edit: don't get me wrong, I find this dungeon to be a lot of fun, but the lethality of some portions are starting to feel very gimmicky. Much to the point where if you're not running something you're going to die. Dungeon's shouldn't be easy, but they shouldn't require certain abilities/equipment to be reasonably possible like a lock and key.

The thing is, damage on pupeteer is not even a problem. There is a spot on the left side where you can pretty much hang like 90% of the damage phase and just deal dmg. The problem are those rooms below where you deal with inconsistent clones who deal radiation just for getting close to you. Its literal rng on steroids, because these guys have tendency of being random as fuck. One run they will just stay the fuck away from you, the other run you can barely get rid of them. Or they can run with you for no fucking reason whatsover with you entire time. I finished my solo flawless couple of days ago, and honestly I am glad that its behind me. Those "radiation" rooms are extremely stressful to the point where you know that you are gonna make a mistake sooner or later. The fewer the damage phases, the better, and even on solar titan with maxxed out stuff, arc surges and grand overture, you´re dealing with at least 4, realistically 5. Its hard, but in obnoxious way. Boss has way too much hp, even on contest(that I cleared), it was apparent that boss was tuned for 3 players - all of them doing everything right. I dont like this kind of design on dungeons. I personally felt like this was one of the easier ones. I find the biggest obstacles for solo flawless runs are the random or nearly unfair things that kill you. Things like incinerator backpacks in duality, moths sneaking up in ghosts, and the tag raiders hitting you at 0 seconds in warlords. Most of the sources of deaths in this dungeon felt really identifiable to me, and I thought this dungeon felt really fair. Side note, I HATE HATE HATE HATE duality’s incinerator backpacks. I have had several flawless attempts back when it came out where I would die to the boss stomping a really difficult to see backpack that spawned from an incinerator during damage (meaning there’s not really time to clear them out). With the 'safe 3-phase warlock' strat in Estoerickk's clear I think this is easier to clear than Ghosts of the Deep. Opening encounter took too long in that one since you had to do the mechanics 4 times in a row... you had to read the Klingon symbols about a million times in the boss fights and messing that up could lead to wipes. Then the sheer number of phases you'd need on final, while clearing those 3 rooms over and over again. Goofy timing on the deepsight mechanic as well that could eventually get you in trouble. And I'd say the traversal is harder as well, jumping is probably about the same, not too terrible, but the traversal room with enemies right before final was a pain, I think I actually wiped in there a couple of times on solo flawless runs due to fatigue and being too lazy to swap to safer combat loadouts.... Meanwhile Vesper's host is very easy first encounter, quicker than GotD by any measure but waaaaay quicker if you get some ball dupes in (I'm very inconsistent at this point, seems like the timing is a lot tighter than say Liminality ball duping) Second boss is a pushover once you learn one of the damage strats. Exploder shanks can be dealt with just by going back and to the right and prioritizing them, they won't path through the far right so you just have to watch the mid and left gap. Ice turret buys you a lot of space, but just saving a nade or going prismatic on any class or just a decent weapon like a rocket sidearm will get it done. And if they manage to swarm you, just get jumping and aim for the far left where you will normall do your suppressor shenanigans and you should have no issue dealing with the rest of the shanks. Final boss might be harder if you're doing it 'legit', but cheesy titan and warlock makes DPS safe enough, and it's like 6 minutes for mechanics right now for me and DPS phase is like 4.... so 3 phase, 30 minutes. GotD final took me a lot longer. Easily over an hour. I'll say mechanics phase initially is harder in Vesper's but once you learn it and develop strats for the bottom rooms it's not that bad. My final verdict, a bit harder to learn, but a bit easier to clear. My GotD was 1h40 for solo flawless... I'm going to farm up some tonics (for GL reload boost) and do VH this weekend, I expect the solo flawless clear to be more like an hour and take fewer attempts, but we'll see. Famous last words.

I feel like as a solo player, if you can last 4-5 damage phases and get optimal or just very slightly sub optimal damage phases, the boss should be dead. I really don’t like Bungie artificially making bosses more difficult by giving them more and more health. My issue with this dungeon is the same with GoTD, the bosses need to have their health scaled down when in solo play.
@Undead115Phoenix2 ай бұрын
They don't even need to do something as complicated as scaling hp to the number of players... Just bake in solo operative to the game, at all times. The hardest part of the dungeon is articulating WHY its hard, i have a feeling that this will nail it on the head. pretty much exactly it now that ive watched, here's my thoughts though: TLDR: there is no dungeon that has you juggling yourself between so many things while also under such intense pressure the hardest part of this dungeon compared to any other dungeon, strategic instant kills aside, is how many burning hoops you need to jump through. correct me if im wrong, but we have never had anything more than the 1 repeated mechanic to progress an encounter, let alone 2/3. IE duality only needing to worry about the timer or ghost of the deep's symbols you have to remember. Instead of the 1 mechanic, you have 2/3/4 1. Scanner, you have to run(on a timer) to scan panels out of the way, which can have pitfalls to get you, or 4 giant bosses that want to beat you up real bad. 2. suppressor, you now need to GIVE UP your grenade, a VITAL part of your kit(in most cases) to simply throw down a threaded specter to stun enemies. 3. Nukes and radiation, Suppressor taking you grenade was bad, how about YOUR ABILITY TO FIGHT BACK? in the first encounter it may have a learning curve at first but the real issue is at final encounter. not only do you have to use scanner to find a specific clone to brawl with, you also have to temporarily give all means of fighting back to avoid fighting, worst case scenario you are already pretty hurt and need to hide, but you can't fight your way to safety otherwise you're dead. I could totally pick it apart some more but the point is there. there is no dungeon that has you juggling yourself between so many things while also under such intense pressure.

I don't think it's because the dps phase is difficult. My issue with the last few dungeons has been damage. Pit of Heresys boss can be 1 phased solo, and I was able to solo flawless that dungeon on my first try after not playing it in over a year. Vesper, and also Ghosts of the Deep, I find difficult not because of the mechanics but because it takes much longer to kill the boss which of course increases the margin or error because your in the encounter much longer. I personally hate it that bosses continue to get larger and larger hp bars, it feels like the solo equivalent to Grandmasters just adding more champions to fake increase difficulty. Like, you can solo flawless 3 dps phases? Ok, next dungeon we'll make you have to survive 5 dps phases instead. Vespers has been a bit of a step in the right direction I feel like much more damage is achieveable in each phase.
@urezzz2 ай бұрын
Ghost and vesper are the only dungeons I refuse to solo. Just thinking about it gives me a headache. I can't imagine running around for an hour or two trying to finish all the mechanics just to get to dps. This is where warlords nailed it.
@ForeverLaxx2 ай бұрын
@@urezzz This is the real problem with the dungeon, barring its bugginess. The mechanics are so involved and full of instant-wipe moments that you really don't want to have to do them more than necessary, but since Bungie keeps making HP bars bigger and bigger you're being forced to dance through an instant death minefield 3, 4, even 5 or 6 times just to even *start* doing damage to the boss. The fact the boss itself sports its own instant loss mechanics on top of that is just... why?

Carrying Nuclear Cores that slow you and radiate you, timed Mechanics, One-Shot Boss Mechanics, Sniper Boss, RNG Lightning, janky Radiation Clones, way too much Boss HP. None, of that is the challenging kind of fun. The Final Boss Arena is a disaster. After I got the Weapons I want I will not touch this anymore. Vesper’s is really easy to beat just by being patient and consistent in comparison to warlords finicky gravitational mess.

Its hard for the right reasons but Bungie loves to romance completely cheap one shot mechanics. Their idea of hard is punishing you for not being able to handle bs RNG. In the legend campaign they had a mission where a piss ton of mines would spawn and you could trigger them while being nowhere near the laser and some would be around corners and could one shot the player. It's not a fun mechanic and it overly punishes the player for a "mistake." This has been Bungie's idea of difficulty which is why there are nowhere near traditional roles in this game and why the games language makes no sense. Warlocks and Hunters shouldn't have to feel obligated to dump a heavy investment of their stats into resilience. While Titan's class ability cooldown is tied to resilience the idea is that Titan's are the tanks class yet somehow is the only class in the game that doesn't have an exotic that gives increased damage resist not like renewel grasps used to give or like the Stag gives Warlocks. So it's not entirely all the right reasons but it's better than the past but until they remedy the fact that they keep calling the Titan the tank class while giving now way to be tankier than the actual classes with exotics that grant resistance like omnioculus does for Hunter they will continue to hamstring themselves into making the same mistakes imo and that is being making something difficult that doesn't involve One Shot Mechanics. The game is supposed to feel fast-paced so maybe they are afraid to get away from the formula they've relied on all these years.

I think lots of people are confusing enjoyment with difficulty. Duality was frustrating, and, to a degree, GoTD too. During Vesper if you die you kinda know is a skill issue. Sure, not shooting moths and backpacks is also a skill issue, but it turns into frustration. Vesper doesn't have that. I guess difficulty is also subjective, but I cannot wrap my head around how making one mistake during any point of the final boss is considered easier than remembering to shoot a backpack or go into the water when moths appear (or just shoot them lol)

i also don't know why you're praising the encounters being quasi random with their mechanics / enemies, like are we seriously saying that "it's random guys so it's good and unfamiliar so we just have to adapt!" as a good thing? last i checked EVERYONE liked destiny because it was concise and routable, that's THE whole reason why speedrunners even have ANY content to do & also why solo players are supposed to be able to clear content, because the content is set so they can adapt; not fkn random amounts of IMPORTANT enemies in a room and then randomized lightning strikes it would be one thing if your actions directly triggered the amount of puppets in a room to be different or if you dunked an extra nuclear core for extra dmg time that causes the lightning to be random and deadly, but they don't, it's rng without player control & last time i checked every single god damned person in this fkas community hates that
