John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. The Bible definitely specifies on being baptized of water and the Holy Ghost.

@Rubes Ruiz not sure how this applies to the question about “spirit baptism” but ok … Jus an fyi, historically Monergism was used in a context of coming to faith. To tie the notion of apostasy to it, is to redefine Monergism. Anyhow, that’s a different topic. Be blessed

@Rubes Ruiz since the topic of Monergism for us (and historically) is about coming to faith. We are monergistic because God gives faith. It’s not based on a choice or earning. The apostasy or rejection of the free gift is a separate category. Hope that helps

Doesn’t Matthew 3:11 make that distinction along with John 3:5- John 4:1? The distinction between baptisms that’s is. Also spiritual baptism saves but physical baptism doesn’t. If it were to save us then Paul’s epistle are become useless to us if there’s a good work we can do to be saved. Is this not the same false gospel Paul corrected in Galatians when circumcision was desired for salvation?

I think the issue here is, you view baptism as "our work", rather than His work. In John 3:5 Jesus says "water and the Spirit", which is exactly the manner shown in baptism. The Mathew 3 passage is a comparsion of Johns baptism of just water and Jesus baptism (which as u showed in John 3 is water and SPIRIT). But the main issue, is .. Baptism is not our work. When you read Roman 6 or col 2, or Gal 3:27 ... it's no way a man can bury another into Christ or cloth a guy into Christ. Yet scripture speaks this way about baptism. Baptism isn't our work. It is a work that God does to us. It would behoove you to read more of our Confessions that tie to the Scriptures themselves. These are very general and hasty arguments.
