Jesus was blessing the babies and children but I don’t recall babies or children being submerged in water in scriptures…baptism isn’t the same as circ

Thx for posting. What about the other arguments for what baptism is? You haven’t engaged those. What is baptism is your understanding? What passages on baptism do you use to support your definition?

I think John Calvin planted the seed for the anabaptist, by suggesting that the promise of baptismal regeneration was reserved for the elect, not universal. He termed the phrase baptism efficacy, over baptismal regeneration. That by itself diminished the value of the promise of the remission of sins, and the anabaptist ran with and said it was just symbolic.

it's so interesting you forget you're also Lutheran, the Lutheran scholastics would agree with Calvin, not only that, the bible does answer this question, paul says "what can the clay say to the potter" as Luther says "let God be God"

Thx for posting. Respectfully, false. Doesn’t matter who would agree with Calvin, they’d be incorrect, also. I wrote an entire chapter on this matter in my book: Extra Nos l Discovering Grace Outside Myself. Available as an audiobook, also. In brief: Romans 9 does NOT teach double predestination nor that God created some for wrath. Calvinist wrongfully teach that from that text. They isolate it and read that idea into it. Romans 9:22 does *not* contain the word before hand related to vessels of wrath. However, Romans 9:23 *does* contain the word beforehand related to vessels of mercy. You start to notice this elsewhere as it relates to God preparing a place for vessels of mercy. Matthew 25:34: Then the King will say to those on His right, "Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." As it relates to God preparing a place for vessels of wrath in Matthew 25:41: Then He will say to those on His left, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." God's kingdom was prepared for people. Hell was prepared for the devil. See what Paul says about God's desire for people in 1 Timothy 2:4: [He] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. People are themselves considered responsible for resisting God. Selah. Much more can be said. I digress.

@@ExtraNosAcademy it seems when it comes to baptism you say "let the text speak for itself" but when it comes to God "willing to have mercy on whom ever he wills" you then must jump through hoops like the baptist against infant baptism

Thanks for posting! God’s peace. Because, respectfully, they do not rightly interpret scripture. Particularly, concerning the universal atonement (Jesus died for all without exception). Calvinist get that wrong, unfortunately. The false teaching of double predestination (Romans 9 does *not* teach that). Jesus’ bodily presence in the bread and wine (Calvinist wrongly teach a spiritual presence, that Jesus is present only according to His Divine nature, and that we ascend up to heaven by the Holy Spirit. The Bible teaches no such things. These are merely a few reasons why I reject *all* forms of Calvinism. Again, respectfully.

LOL. you make it sound like choosing which beverage to get out the fountain... "I used to like Dr. Pepper,, but I might try Barqs today". From all his content, it seems like, Lutheranism was what he felt was most faithful to Holy Writ. I think its kind of hard to get a Theological degree from baptist land and not know Dutch/Presby beliefs, and hard to get a Master's and not delve into 3 forms or Westminster theology.

Maybe the Roman church at the time of the Reformation turned into a religion of sacraments where faith wasn't part of the equation, so it needed to be corrected. The Anabaptists went too far and rected anything that looked Roman Catholic without recognizing there was still much that was good there. And then it went overboard in modern American Evangelicalism with personal manifestations and spiritual gifts rather than trusting God's objective Word. And this is why we not only have the Pentecostal movement but Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. To be Christian is to walk that line of law and gospel, the Word and the Spirit, truth and love, relationship with God and life in the church, holiness and grace, etc. If we go too far one direction or the other, we inevitably slip into something we shouldn't.

I came from a Calvinist background, and I've been studying the Book of Concord with my wife as we have attended a confessional Lutheran church. Such a blessing to her who always struggled with assurance to know we can simply trust God when the pastor says that our sins are forgiven. No need to constantly doubt whether Jesus really died for us or whether we are elect or not.

I’m part of a reformed Baptist church, but lean toward paedobaptist views. It was the guys over at Theocast (1689ers) that first opened my eyes to objective work of Christ in Baptism and it has definitely been a source of assurance for me. Praise the Lord!

I look on water baptism as being likened to the reception of an invisible Bible. Like the reception of a manufactured Bible, this is appropriate at any age. This promotes Christian faith and proper repentance, but it still allows the free will of rebellion against doing the will of God. Also consider the mentally impaired. Isn't an invisible Bible especially appropriate for the retarded, the senile, and the psychotic?

John 14:20-22 NKJV 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Those who practice lawlessness and do not obey his commands do not know and serve Christ.

Thx for posting! You’ve posted beautiful passages that rightly speak on the Christian ethic, amen. Those text do not negate nor disprove the statements in this video. You’ve simply grabbed a collection of isolated law passages. You’ve conveniently left out passages affirming Jesus’s fulfillment of the law on our behalf and the forgiveness He grants repentant sinners. The law now functions as a guide for us and not a threat to the Christian’s salvation, as they are continually trusting God, by faith. Receiving forgiveness through His Word and Sacrament.
