@RennWickam4 жыл бұрын
Another thing to note about Kwame's (lack of) development was that he was forced to put on another 30-50 pounds of muscle when he got to the league, which completely destroyed his quickness advantage he was touted for. I feel like one of the many issues with Jordan as an owner/gm/president of basketball operations is that he either drafts players players with a style from his era (barring Frank Kaminsky and Kemba Walker) or a project that he wants to mold with his era's mentality. Jordan thought that Kwame was gonna get bullied at 240 lbs by huge back to the basket bigmen that was already going away by the turn of the 21st century (basically Shaq and Tim Duncan). Just further mismanagement of his development and not understanding who they drafted, both physically and mentally
@deanbenford73634 жыл бұрын
100% truth, Jordan has no clue how scout or develop players. He is an example of a legendary player who needs to stay in his role as an ambassador and just wave to the crowd as they cheer. Similar to how the Sixers handle Iverson "we love you, you're welcome to come in and wave to the crowd, we appreciate your legendary PLAY."

I don’t think any pick will ever be as bad as Thabeet. Memphis missed out on a championship because of that horrific selection
@kushberry66794 жыл бұрын
Thabeet was very raw. He had tremendous defensive potential, he had Mutombo's playstyle (not skill level,just playstyle). I don't remember exactly who, but some KZbinr explained the Thabeet and Memphis situation perfectly. In a few words, Memphis didn't give the proper training and attention to Thabeet, his development wasn't on their list. That's pretty bad considering that they just picked him with the 2nd pick, and everybody knew he was a project, a raw player with huge potential. A lot of sources confirmed that Thabeet was just thrown out to the ocean and didn't receive any guidance
@901Wes4 жыл бұрын
Kush Berry yes but even in college there was a lot of talk about his motor . He never had the attitude that he was gonna go work and get better. I know I may be an armchair GM , but I would avoid players with lazy work ethic like the plague. Could’ve picked Harden. Harden, Conley, Zbo, Marc Gasol, Tony Allen, Rudy Gay, and OJ Mayo would’ve killed. A lot of us Memphis fans hated that pick . Hindsight is always 20/20 but still..
@kushberry66794 жыл бұрын
@@901Wes Yeah men, low motor is a common thing among big men. I don't think that he would have become the next great big, but I think that he would have become a very good interior defender, kinda like Mutombo. The grizzlies didn't give him the proper guidance, and for a raw young player, that's an instant career end. Imagine Antetokounmpo with the Bucks without them giving him the proper attention. Now, of course there were a lot of better players, and it's sad that the next pick was Harden, maybe the most suitable player for Memphis. I would love to see a core of Conley, Tony Allen, Gasol, Harden and later Z-Bo. The Grizzlies were lacking offensively and Harden could have been the perfect player for them.

@@alecmorariu6291 Did you even read my comment? I said that he was very raw. He had a lot of potential, mainly on the defensive end but the Grizzlies didn't gave him the proper training he needed. It's the Grizzlies fault for not developing him. It is just dumb to pick a raw prospect type of player and then you don't give him the proper attention. The Bucks selected Antetokounmpo, a very raw skinny kid with huge potential and by properly developing him, they got themselves an MVP.

Him and Andrew Bynum are both great examples of why not everyone should come out of highschool, immaturity. Kwame needed a chance to have his confidence built up before entering the pro's while Bynum needed the structure of playing in a college system. (hopefully the G-League will also be able to provide the structure without all of the bullshit). One was a scared kid, the other was a class clown, but both were too immature for the spotlight (and in Bynum's case, the money) that quickly

@@christiansoldier77 Bynum wasn't a hugely impactful player yet until after the two championships, not playing more than 25mpg or averaging more than 9ppg in the playoffs until the two seasons afterward. His immaturity in addition to bad knees also cut his career incredibly short. we only saw his prime for one year before he needed surgery on his knee, reinjuring it messing around at a bowling alley, and after getting a chance to prove himself with the Cavs and Pacers, he blew it with stunts like shooting the ball every time he got it during a practice, no matter how far he was from the hoop. Calling him a bust is idiotic. Not living up to kobe/Lebron expectations, but still averaging 20ppg is proof enough. Sure he’s one dimensional and doesn’t rebound, pass or play good defense but he’s a player of worth in the nba.
@ryanschumacher34484 жыл бұрын
My reason for this, Wolves gave up Love for him. Handed him a max without being worth a max player, and didn't do a thing. You can blame the organization all you want, but in no way does he change the game when he's on the court. He's a putback/attack the rim threat and that's it. Defense sucks, FT is terrible, shooting splits. I watched him the years he was in 'Sota showed absolutely no progression.

No, I will agree with Tucker. The guy had game but he wasnt yet ready. College is supposed to be a time period when players develop physically and mentally before turning pro. Kwame was one of the best in his class, and he admitted to his coaches etc that he wasn't ready, especially for the number 1 pick expectations. If he went to college, it would be more likely that he would end up lower in the draft, but with his skill level and and most importantly, his mental issues fixed he would have been more productive with less expectations. Also, he would have a longer career, of course he made money, but imagine him playing until 2015 for example
