@@gaelclichy7458 if 50 moves are played (btw 1 move = 2 turns, 1 from each side) witthout any type of captures or pawn moves, any player CAN clain a draw, but they are not forced to, and if i'm not mistaken after 100 moves without captures or pawn moves the arbiter must force the end of the game and decare a draw. In Rapid and blitz game players usually don't keep track of the moves, that''s why Parham stopped the clock and asked the arbiter to check the move count to know if he could claim a draw, that is totally fine to do.

Imagine how it was to play rapid in era when there were not DGT boards and proper chess software for computers. In 1988 FIDE organized so called "Active chess world championships " with rapid time control and Karpov won it. Kasparpv was upset, he did not play there and said ; "If Karpov is active chess champion who am I then ? Passive champ ?" I am pretty sure they did not have DGT boards back then and players did not have enough time to write moves on scoresheet.Perhaps they put arbiter next to every board to write down moves ? in 1998 Elista Olympiad FIDE first used more than 300 DGT boards in big tournament and is using since then in every important event.

Nt sure what was he trying to do with the knight anyway. He lost it for free anyway , the 50 move count not withstanding.

Now I see why Magnus "complained" in game with Petrov: there are black "clips" (bugs) on wach side of the chess board. Very strange and distracting.

Magnus reaction was gold , bet he knew what move it was without doubt. Anyone who can play blind against 10 players is far better than just a move counter lol
