Anyone who confused :- Parhm try to the Fifty Move Rule to claim a Draw in a Lost Game (Player can claim a draw if no capture has been made and no pawn has been moved in the last fifty moves). In this case it was only 46 moves 🙂

Explanation for beginners: If you dont move 50 moves a pawn or capture a piece - it will be a draw due to 50-moves-rule. Last pawn move was on move 47. Game ended on move 87. Parham tried to claim 50 moves. Magnus understood within seconds, that there were only 40 moves.

@@arbo3495 He played it out until the very last move to get as close as possible to, and possibly cross 50 moves. There is no way for him to know how many moves they are on so it's better to be safe than sorry and check with the arbiter. It's very silly to accuse someone who is simply applying the rules of cheating the way you did.

@MatsMatsuo 11 ай бұрын
@@gaelclichy7458 if 50 moves are played (btw 1 move = 2 turns, 1 from each side) witthout any type of captures or pawn moves, any player CAN clain a draw, but they are not forced to, and if i'm not mistaken after 100 moves without captures or pawn moves the arbiter must force the end of the game and decare a draw. In Rapid and blitz game players usually don't keep track of the moves, that''s why Parham stopped the clock and asked the arbiter to check the move count to know if he could claim a draw, that is totally fine to do.

Imagine how it was to play rapid in era when there were not DGT boards and proper chess software for computers. In 1988 FIDE organized so called "Active chess world championships " with rapid time control and Karpov won it. Kasparpv was upset, he did not play there and said ; "If Karpov is active chess champion who am I then ? Passive champ ?" I am pretty sure they did not have DGT boards back then and players did not have enough time to write moves on scoresheet.Perhaps they put arbiter next to every board to write down moves ? in 1998 Elista Olympiad FIDE first used more than 300 DGT boards in big tournament and is using since then in every important event.

i think white didn't take because black knight would be trapped after: Nxf5 - Ke4 Nh6 - Rh7 Ng8 - Kf5 g4+ - hxg4 that combination leaves black in a winning position because white's knight would be trapped

three fold must be claimed exactly at the moment you repeated three times, you cant claim later, and even so, I'm pretty sure it didn't happen, Magnus was keeping track of the squares he was using with the rook

Can someone just answer the damn question if Magnus won, lost, or if the game was a draw? Comments so far are all over the place and don't say one way or the other. I'm not a chess aficionado, so I don't understand if someone won or if it's still a draw. I understand Parham THOUGHT it was a draw due to the 50-move rule, but it wasn't, so does Magnus still win? Does it still draw? Why did Magnus put the kings on black, but Parham move it back? WHO WON?

Magnus' opponent claimed a draw due to 50 moves being played without captures or pawn pushes, but it turned out it wasn't quite 50. Neither of them were sure how many move had passed, it was a desperate last attempt to save the game. He then resigned because Magnus was about to capture the knight.

Ke4 threatening knight, after knight move to h6 (if knight move to other square will be taken), then Rd2 check, white king must move to 1st rank and black can slowly chop all white pawn..
@L33TTechReviewer

You lose the knight, the rook dominates it and after Ke4 knight can only go to h6 and I think it's lost after Rh7 Ng8 Kf5 since Ke6 and Kg7 can't be stopped and knight gets picked off
@manchild3437
@manchild3437 11 ай бұрын
I can see that if Knight takes, the Black King can go to E4, causing the Knight's only safe squares to be E3 and H6. If Knight E3, the Knight is lost when the Rook checks the White King, but I can't see a problem with Knight B6. Maybe it leads to some sort of Mating Attack with the Rook and Black King?
