Personally I think that the Sith shouldn't seek dominion over others for the simple reason that a Sith following another Sith and both of them seeking power over others one of them is going to end up dying. I think what Darth Malgus appears to be doing in the current storyline of SWTOR where he breaks away from the Empire is the most viable way for the sith to live by their code "through victory my chains are broken the force shall set me free" to try and take power over others is to try and make oneself dependent on those other people and to shackle yourself to the reigns of power. So the goal of a Sith instead of seeking leadership should be to become as self sufficient as possible and live only amongst those they choose to compromise with with the freedom and agency to leave whenever they choose. Basically the Sith would be a lot more sustainable if they were space anarcho communists instead of space fascists/social darwinists.

So my view of the rule of two is that it is a good idea within the confines of the sith ideology. What's important to remember that to the sith there is no collective. A siths goal is not to advance the collective strength of the sith order but to individually become stronger. To all sith, the victory of another sith lord is just as much of a loss as the victory of the Jedi. So although conceptually it weakens the sith order, it places the individual sith in a better position to achieve the ultimate goal of sith ideology, which is individual domination over the galaxy, the force and life itself.

Ok but, I propose a System of Sith power based on the actions of Darth Malgus and the teachings of less orthodox Sith like Lana Beniko and Darth Traya. That the Sith should not seek leadership but rather independence. Political power, wealth, that sort of thing ties you to complex power structures and customs. So what if the Sith just strove for self sufficiency, the agency to pick up and leave any situation and negotiate at any level with any person only for compromises they were willing to make that they should seek absolute power over themselves rather than others. Not the same way the Jedi do necessarily but if they really want to "break their chains", to free themselves through the force, they would do better to live as some jedi do, hermits relying on very few people and potentially isolated from the affairs of the larger galaxy or going where they will and meeting who they will but always being able and ready to leave. Basically the Sith really would benefit from a decentralized and horizontal power structure as much as anyone else. They they could do their research and keep in touch to exchange knowledge if they wanted to but they would never have that contradiction of always clinging to political power whilst trying to maintain their freedom from other Sith. Call it the rule of the nomad Sith or something. Bet Sith like that would get really good at building star ships.

I get the merits of the Rule of 2. What I don’t get is, why did Palpatine WANT an apprentice once he took over? The only reason to have an apprentice is to pass the mantle to them when they die. Palpatine had no intention of passing anything to Vader. Vader was only useful as a weapon. And the Inquisitors would have served that purpose. He also intended to live forever, so why teach another? It’s only going to lead to the apprentice trying to kill the master.

Because Palpatine needs a successor to ensure the sith don’t just die with him and they can continue to rule and make sure the Jedi don’t return his first prodigy was Darth Maul he took him as a baby to apprentice him as a Sith Lord cus he noticed his force potential was greater than Mother Talzin then Maul became a failure once he was defeated by Kenobi Sidious : ''Darth Maul was a loss, but Darth Tyranus... He was a proton torpedo. He served his purpose and was gone...'' Source: Darth Vader #20 (2016) His next apprentice Dooku was an old man already in his prime and didn’t have the makings of a true sith he wasn’t strong enough and wasn’t going to be as strong as the chosen one so Dooku was basically a pawn he also didn’t embrace the darkside as much Next, Darth Vader he was also defeated by Obi Wan and this ruined his force potential and after this he wasn’t able to become as powerful as the Emperor according to George Lucas he was only 80% of the Emperor’s power after his injuries Finally Luke he was another prodigy who could become more powerful than Palpatine and Sidious wanted him to succeed him…

The biggest problem that Darth Bane had was assuming that every Sith afterwards would be like him. That is the true flaw of the Rule of 2
@TherealKRG-d7p
@TherealKRG-d7p 2 жыл бұрын
The rule of two was only a means of survival and although it took one thousand years for the sith to actually destroy the republic they didn’t know what to do after that. Darth Sodious may have had an empire but he wasn’t really a good ruler all he made was a military with no real reason. No threat to destroy the galaxy (canon wise cause legends had multiple). The sith problem in the new sith wars wasn’t the infighting but multiple apprenticeship at one time which they worked together to kill more powerful sith which weakened them. Imagine if we combined the rule of two with the sith empire cause it kills two birds in one stone. So basically the Sith Lords would take one apprentice at a time unless they die from the apprentice or the apprentice ranks up into a Sith Lord themselves.When the Sith apprentice kills their master they take what they can get for themselves. Also add more ranks so that sith would have something to strive for. Also give the more powerful sith more control of their military so that they have something to keep them busy.This would give newer Sith more positions of power which would result in less infighting.I would start with 12 and slowly allow it to grow and evolve. That’s what I would’ve done if I was in that situation.(If you made it this far I’m sorry for all this writing but here’s a star for reading through this ⭐️).

To me Palpetine was the downfall of the Sith. Yes he was extremely powerful and yes he was knowledgeable but he also committed senseless genocide and destroyed many bastions of knowledge that could be put to use furthering the Sith cause. He never wanted an apprentice to surpass him he wanted complete and total control thus breaking the rule of two in the first place. In my own point of view you can use the Darkside and grow powerful but you don’t have to give into senseless madness that undermines your overall cause. Darth Traya would have loved me as an apprentice.

I agree with you. Many people are saying that the Sith order was meant to create strong individuals rather than a strong Sith Order, however humans (and as it would seems, most of the aliens from Star Wars) need stable organizations to thrieve. A net of healthy cooperation, trade and resources are always required to ahcieve even the most basic needs, by constantly undermining the Sith Order with their neverending betrayals, the Sith end up undermining themselves. It seems that their ideology is flawed from the very beginning, especially if we compare them to the nightsisters and the others witches of Dathomir. Although they heavily rely on dark side powers in almost every part of their society, the nightsisters help each other and have significant bonds way more than the Sith. While the Sith of the rule of two era would always be stronger than a jedi, their power can vary quite a bit and undermine the order, the nightsisters will always make sure that their members are not completely consumed by the darkside, that they benefit both, their clan and themselves and to pass their traditions and knowledge, even from beyond the death. Of course, they are far from perfect, but in they I see much of the flaws of the Sith Order corrected.

There is an alternative, but the Sith would hate the idea of it because they must fully immerse themselves with the Light side of the force. A Sith's goal is to gain more power and knowledge to become the strongest being the galaxy however, the dark side is a volatile power source since most apprentices use cunning to defeat their masters. If the Sith embraced the Light side they have to gain power by going through trails much like the Jedi, but instead of restricting their emotions they fully embrace emotions such as love, compassion and dedication to knowledge. This helps the Sith get stronger in order to work together and trusting one another to gain more power while to prove whoever is more powerful is in face to face duel using their skills, knowledge and power to determine who is the victor. These new type of Sith will have honour and pride in determining who is the better combatant becoming like gladiators to see who is the stronger man. If the Sith embraced the Light Side of the Force would they be more powerful than in the Dark?

@@MatthewHWise i think a balanced approach would be better, have them draw power from both sides of the force and from all emotions (both positive and negative) but also to learn to control them instead of being controlled by them, going far too much into one side or the other will just help create more imbalance and thus left things the same as they already are.

The main problem of the Sith is that they can't turn a hunger for personal power into generational power. A Sith wouldn't want an apprentice unless it was his own child that he loved and wanted to leave power to. It only makes sense if the ultimate goal is to serve the dark side for rewards in the afterlife.

The failings of the Rule of Two look to be intentionally made to reflect why the Sith will ultimately lose: using treachery and secrecy against themselves, arrogance in their powers, and basing their ways over the failures of past Sith. That’s also why ancient Sith like Exar Kun, Vitiate, Nihilus, and Tulok Hord had more raw power as they partook in less cowardly actions as Banite Sith and simply took the galaxy for themselves.

The Rule of Two is not just dumb but lazy. The Sith Empire of the Old Republic was successful for thousands of years even though there were millions of Siths in the Empire's ranks. We have Siths like Darth Marr, Darth Acina, Lana Beniko, and Darth Jadus who were successful with thousands of Siths under their command. Not all Siths were horrible in the Sith Empire as they were merely ignored from being written by other arrogant Siths. Some Siths were involved in saving the Galaxy from times of crisis.

My take on the sith order was instead of killing all of the sith Bane would fake his death and allow the brotherhood of darkness to keep fighting until they were on their last knee’s. It could be 4 to 10 years during this time Bane will grow stronger while the brotherhood grew weaker. Once he returns the brotherhood would both be surprised and interested in his new powers. I mean, the rule of two was dumb because I mean let's look at everything that we've seen between The Phantom Menace and The Rise of Skywalker, Jedi could have a padawan for their padawan, Obi-Wan had Anakin as his padawan who had Ahsoka as his padawan... meanwhile, Palpatine had Darth Maul, who was killed, then had Count Doku, who was killed, then he turned Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader, then Vader tossed Palpatine down that shaft and then returned to the light side and then died in Return of the Jedi, basically the Sith should have had a designated survivor so that in case there was a situation like what happened on the second death star

it didn't fail though. the point was to have a clear, established hierarchy that would allow the sith to grow stronger and more knowledgeable of the force as each generation passed until one day they'd be strong enough to fulfill their goal of controlling the galaxy and destroying the jedi, as opposed to being stuck in a constant power struggle between members of the order that prevented them from making any substantial progress.

But the Rule of Two still lost progress, Apprentices killed their masters before they could learn all their teachings, masters hid secrets from their apprentices, Sith Masters and Apprentices turned to the light and tried to destroy Sith Teachings, and if wasn’t for the fact that writers keep coming up with dumb ways to revive Palpatine the rule of Two would have died over Endor. Yes it’s a logical strategy in theory, but it doesn’t take into account people being stupid, petty, and self interest in a culture literally built around petty self interest. And this isn’t even mentioning what would happen if a Sith Lord didn’t take a nasty fall down a set of stairs or if a Star Ship with the current lord of the Sith exploding.

Naw man, it wasn't the rule of two that destroyed the sith, it was the reduction of jedi drawing on the force leading to luke becoming the most powerful jedi that ever lived. The force requires balance and the sith had too much concentration of power, so it was just inevitable.

“Doomed to fail”? But it didn’t fail until the very end, and just by a turn of fate… Think about it - Palpatine became the Emperor of the galaxy, nearly wiped out the Jedi, and became one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. I would call that a rousing success compared to pre “rule of two” Sith endeavors… Palpatine’s only real error was in underestimating the bond between a father and son - if he had turned someone with no ties to Vader and replaced Vader, Palpatine’s reign would have gone on much longer, possibly indefinitely…
